Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions when filling out this questionnaire. It is our goal to place the Clumbers with the right family and we appreciate your help in making this happen. Please give as much information as possible because there is no such thing as too much information. We have the right to refuse any applicant and you must b

e 18 years of age to apply. Submitting an application does not guarantee your adoption of a Clumber as this is only the beginning of the adoption process. By signing at the end of the application, you are indicating that you have answered every question honestly and to the best of your knowledge

By signing the application, you are also giving Clumber Spaniel Rescues permission to contact all personal and veterinarian references. Name: Email address:

Occupation: Age:

Spouse or Significant Other: Age:

1. Please tell me everything you know about them.

2. Have you ever met a Clumber spaniel? If so when and how long did you spend with them? Please keep in mind that most of our Clumbers come from puppy mills. We have reference letters families who’ve adopted and these letters are a great indication that some (not all) of our rescues will take a little work but they are so worth it.

3. What type Clumber spaniel are you looking for: Male or Female (and indicate why)

4. Have you ever had pets before? If yes, what kind and what happened to the pets you previously owned?

5. Have you ever given up a pet voluntarily? Have you ever been in a court situation regarding your pet? If so, please explain.

7. Do you currently have other pets? What kind and how many?

8. What are your pets ages and s*x? Are they spayed/neutered? Please list each one separately and describe (in detail, their personalities, likes, dislikes, etc).

9. How are your pets with other dogs and new visitors? Does the county/city you live in have a pet limit?

10. Are there children in your household? Please include grandchildren, nieces, nephews, etc who may visit and please list their ages?

11. Do your children and/or pets have a lot of exposure to other animals? Do your dogs go places with you? If you have family members and/or friends who visit with dogs, please describe in detail their personalities and what s*x they are.

12. How busy is your household? Describe a typical day in your household.

13. Do you travel frequently? Will your Clumber accompany you and if not, who will take care of him/her?

14. Do you own or rent your home? Do you live in an apartment, single-family house, condo, on a farm, etc? Please state whether or not you live within the city limits, out in the country, housing development, private lot, etc.

15. Do you have a fenced in yard? If so, how high is it? Please attach pictures and describe in detail. If you don’t have a fenced in yard, how do you plan on exercising your Clumber? Does your county/city have a leash law?

16. Are you willing to crate your Clumber (if need be) for short periods? Will you keep your Clumber crated during the work day if no one is at home? If so how many hours will he or she be crated?

17. Where will the Clumber sleep?

18. How much time will the Clumber spend alone?

19. What type dog food do you feed your dogs?

20. What heartworm prevention do you use or used?

21. What flea preventative do you use or used?

22. Is there an activity you’d like most to pursue with a Clumber (i.e., hunting, tracking, agility, obedience or therapy work)? Please keep in mind that many of these dogs were abused and MOST were neglected so to expect them all to succeed at certain tasks are not reasonable (knowing what your interests will help me decide who might work).

23. Would you be willing to have a home visit? Does your spouse or other live in adults agree to this adoption? Does anyone in your family have allergies? If so, please explain.

24. If you adopt a Clumber what type of training methods will you use? What type discipline?

25. What would be a deal breaker with a Clumber? (i.e., excessive barking, excessive timidness, p*es when excited, has to be fed in crate because they are food aggressive, can't have toys as they are toy aggressive, can't have bedding as they are chewers, has to be crated when unattended because they are chewers, not too keen on being groomed, having feet and/or ears handled). Please list any others that you are not willing to deal with.

26. What are your expectations in regards to the grooming requirements of a Clumber? Are you aware of the heavy shedding? Feet needs?

27. Are you aware of the health issues common in Clumber Spaniels?

28. In regards to patience, please rate yours and your spouse or significant other on a scale from 1 to 10 with 1 being the lowest and 10 being the highest.

29. Are you willing to give a rescue 6 or more months to settle in and be comfortable? Some rescues will take longer than others to trust and settle in and it is very important that the new families are aware of this when adopting a puppy mill dog. The Clumbers do not come from family environments but come from people who never touched them, they lived in chicken coops, or in cages, or in metal buildings with very little contact with humans. I will be upfront regarding each and every rescue and in return I ask that my applicants do the same as this will make adopting a rescue a lot less stressful on everyone.

30. Do you have a regular vet? Please provide name, address, and phone number. Please notify your vet and let them know that I will be calling and give them permission so that they may talk to me. How long have you used them? If less than five years list previous vet used.

31. Please provide three personal references and phone numbers of someone who has known you at least five years (we will be checking personal references).

1.
2.
3.

32. Please share your thoughts on co-ownership and what it means to you as all Clumbers adopted will be co-owned by me and a contract will be signed. If for ANY reason you decide that you can't keep the Clumber, you HAVE to return him/her to CLUMBER SPANIEL RESCUES. You CANNOT take the Clumber to a shelter or re-home.

33. Please list any questions and/or concerns you may have and include any other information that you feel might help me when deciding if I have the right Clumber for you.

Louie
June 25, 2012 - June 20, 2024
Just a week shy of his 13th birthday.
That is 91 years old in our lives.

Louie was the happiest boy clear up to the end when he was eating chocolate starlight cookies. (He did not want the vanilla cookies with sprinkles on them:)

He has gone to find Jimmy, Rosie, Henry, Brody, Toonie, Jaager, and all of the other Clumbers that he has helped teach that life is good and that they also could be safe.

Louie was always that rock for any rescue that came into my home that needed our help.

As a good friend told me, they are never really ours, they are just lent to us for a time.

I am sure that he is swimming in a pond somewhere in heaven.

We will never stop educating others about puppyMills. Ever.

He is whole now.

Hug your babies tight and kiss them.

Heaven gained my angel.

Louie I will miss you forever. I love you. πŸ’•

Here’s LOUIE! It’s been a while since I have shared photos of Louie. He is 12 years old, and 8 months!!
This past weekend he took a car ride to go see his most favorite groomer, Sammi Shafer
for a bubble bath and a trim.

Louie is doing very well for his age. A couple meds have been added into his meals for joint pain and mobility issues. Eye drops are something that we do a couple-3x a day to help with his dry eyes.
He still enjoys a good bone or cleaning off my dinner plates. Who says he can’t do that! ❀️
I love my boy Louie to pieces.

Louie, Eliza and I (Christy Edwards) had a couple visitors in the house the last week!
Michael came to stay with me for Christmas while his mom, Miles & Michael Dentistry was out of town.
Then Amy Dragoo, a long time Clumber owner came for a visit! She took some beautiful photos of all of the dogs while she was visiting. Michael had his first professional photo shoot!
Just look at how grown up he is now!

TODAY IS THE DAY! Sister meets her brother!

Makana & Billy originally went to Colorado to be fostered by Chelsea & Sarah. Makana made her way all the way to Connecticut to live with another Clumber rescue Koa.

Today Koa and Makana will be arriving in Wilmington to meet Michael, Louie and Eliza!

I have not seen Koa since she was just a few months old.

This is Makana and Koa having their road-trip pup cup, and then Michael and Eliza just waking up this am. (Michael spent the night with me) Their photo is in the comments.

More photos to come of the family reunion later today!

Hippo looking regal like the Chinese royalty dog she is meant to be!

Not sure why this funny, sassy, and delightful lady is still available? She is a pretty easy dog most of the time. She has recently started playing with foster mom and tugging on toys and even fetching. She makes a good bedtime buddy as she mostly finds a spot and sticks to herself. She comes for pets when first getting into bed but then likes to find her own spot to sleep. She is a good little copilot but she wants to see where she’s going and look out the window. Her seat of choice is the console. She also has picked up on Manding in the evening from the other dogs on her own without training! She would make a great friend for someone who is just looking for a dog to share their time with.

ITS THEIR BIRTHDAY!

Schmitty β€’ Wallace β€’ Makana β€’ Billy β€’ Michael

The Fall 2022 rescue litter has turned 1!!!

Many thanks and forever love to all 5 of these babies forever family’s and to the many others that made it possible to save 5 more lives from living a life in a barn, on concrete or wire kennels.

These little ones struggled to begin with but fought their way to the top. Look at how big they are now!

He also prefers to sleep in a plastic kiddie pool that is stuffed with blankets and toys.

Billy loves to go cross country skiing with his family!
Living in Colorado he is living his best life loving the snow and hiking in the beautiful mountains.

Billy is around 48 lbs and snores like a freight train. He runs pretty much everywhere, and is quite the mountain dog, and (despite our efforts) never really seems to tire. He spends much of the day at our front fence, waiting for dogs to walk by.

Wallace loves to swim! Also, every morning while his mom is getting ready for work, he expects to be groomed as well! He literally steps up on his moms lap and paws at the brush πŸ˜‚

β€œBrother”, has moved to his forever home!!!

❀️He received this name since he was the β€œOlder Brother” to Michael, Wallace, Schmitty, Makana, and Billy!!! ❀️

He is staying local to me, Christy, in Wilmington NC, which I’m so happy!

Brother has landed in his forever home with Karen Fisher, DVM.

I met Karen a few years at the eye clinic I use for my dogs. If you remember back a couple years ago, Karen is the veterinarian that preformed the collagen injections for my old man Louie, with GREAT success. She saved Louies and his eyes from another surgery.

Karen has also seen the rescues that have come through my home.

Needless to say, he will have the best life ever!
Brother goes to work with his new mother everyday, where he has an entire office full of β€œhis personal staff” to give him anything and everything he needs. In the evenings he is able to go to the barn to see the horses. He is learning about horses and cats. He is working on becoming a professional barn dog!

To see who Brother is living with now, and/or to have your Clumber, or any other pet, seen by her, check out her link!

More family photos to come soon!!

Thank you to everyone for your continued support of our breed and the rescue efforts that takes people from all over to make successful.
You are appreciated!❀️❀️❀️

Today, June 25, 2023, is Louie and JΓ€ger's 12th birthday.
Our boys are the last 2 of the FB15 that was rescued from the living hell of puppymill life.

This page was originally created to document and share Louie's growth and success in healing from living just 5 months in a puppy mill/unethical breeders facility. He came out with broken bones and an amputated toe, but still had a spirit to live. Within just a couple months of sharing Louie's story, this page made a change, to help bring more education to the forefront of where to acquire your next pet, and where not to. We have all shared many stories and pictures of our wonderful Clumber Spaniels, and made new life long friends. As this page continues to grow and change year after year, everyone will always know it is for all of our beloved Clumber Spaniels.
Happy Birthday to my sweet baby Louie and his Brother JΓ€ger.

Consider donating to make sure that no Clumber is left behind and to help those that need help.

Brother has been working hard on learning to sit and wait for his breakfast with Eliza, outside of the kitchen and not underfoot.
This has been very hard for him to understand he does not get to help make breakfast! He is totally in love with the Honest Kitchen dehydrated raw food that he is being fed.

A new box of food will also go home with Brother to make his life change easier for his family too.
An insurance policy has been taken out on Brother that will be transferred to the new family.

To help support our efforts of helping puppymill breeding dogs and their rehabilitation & training to become a nice family dog, please help with any donation. No more doodles!
Every dog benefits with your contribution.

β€œBrother” is what his name is, until he has his forever family!

Over the last few days those that live near me, wanted to meet the 5 puppies β€œBrother”… that is what I heard from many people. Knowing he needed a name asap, this seemed appropriate to us to use right now. A new forever name may be chosen by his forever family in the future.
Right now, he is someone!
He is Brother!

We have been able to take a breeding male out of a doodle factory to make sure he is never bred again.

Brother is a very sweet 17 month old male that has been used as just a money maker for those that had him in captivity of a breeding facility.

This week Brother has been to the vet to make sure he does not have heartworms and for a complete physical and bloodwork. We are waiting on the titers to come back before we proceed with any vaccinations.

Due to Brothers siblings, the 3 in NC, and the 2 in Denver that have their forever homes, and Michael who has come back as genetically affected with PDP1, this boy is also being tested.

His confidence is great around other dogs and he is very loving. But if something drops off of the counter, he’s out of here, or flattens himself to the grind. Vacuum cleaners are pretty scary right now, which is not an option to be afraid of something that all Clumber owners have 1+ of these. He watched Louie and Eliza just lay there with me vacuuming around them, literally pushing them out of the way. Brother is starting realizing that he doesn’t have to be afraid.

Only time will help him overcome this fear.

Crossing the threshold of any doorway was a huge challenge this week. Lots of great rewards are given to let him know that crossing into a doorway will never be scary again. Loud voices are also very scary right now.

We are taking applications for Brother, but we will not confirm a home until his genetic health panel and neutering is completed.

Brother has a really nasty UTI and ear infections, along with some hotspots.

Today Brother had his first real grooming outside of a puppymill.

Many thanks to all our rescue partners and those that have continued to support saving those that are used as breeding dogs in puppymills. Your contributions are always appreciated and helpful. We can not do this without you.

Michael & PDP1

Please read to the end of the post. Also please share to help other Clumber families.

There are attachments within this post to help explain to you what PDP1 is and how it affects our dogs.

This is something that everyone needs to read and understand.

It is imperative to buy a Clumber Spaniel from a reputable breeder, and not over the internet, or from a puppymill. Ask to see proof of any genetic testing, don’t take their word that they have done this.

This post will Explain to you WHY.

They were 5 puppies rescued at approximately just 8 weeks old when they took their freedom ride to safety. (Christy Edwards, Foster, Clumber Spaniel Rescues, Private Breed Rescue)(Chelsea Parten, Foster)

The smallest one was 4.61 lbs and the largest was 5.41 lbs, at approximately 8 weeks old. There were days I did not know if Michael would survive. I now know why.

Today they are all in their forever homes, loved more than anything in this world. ❣️

Michael was the littlest one out of the bunch and he struggled from day one , but he IS a fighter!

There were days he just would not walk any further. I was thinking he just did not want to do any more walking.

I was WRONG.

There were times when Michael was playing with others, and just laid down.

He did not play as hard as the others, which I thought the size difference was the issue.

Again, I was WRONG.

Something kept bugging me that I NEEDED to have a DNA panel run on Michael. I contacted Paw Print Genetics for their β€œClumber Spaniel panel”
https://www.pawprintgenetics.com/products/breeds/57/

Last week I received the results back and shared them with Michael’s mom. To say the least, it was a blow to us.

Michael has come back affected with PDP1. It’s an atrocity that this has happened to this boy and again to our breed.

This is an issue that if the β€œbreeders/puppymiller” would have run any health testing or even cared about the dogs, this is something that could have been totally eliminated and not caused this very sweet boy to have this genetic issue.

All of the other puppies in this litter will be tested by PawPrints within the next week. All results will be shared publicly.

This is devastating news to everyone who loves our breed that there are such careless, thoughtless people out there that could breed 2 carriers or affected, to each other and produce an affected dog that will alter his life.

This not only affects Clumber Spaniels here in the United States, it is worldwide. The sire and dam of this litter are both carriers or affected, with this horrible gene.

But these dogs were bred anyway, without care.

Any reputable breeder would not have bred two carriers together.

As far as we know, this pairing has happened at least twice to produce 2 separate litters.

If you or anyone you know that has had a puppy from the registration papers attached below with the breeders name, please make a comment below.

Together we will work to health test these dogs of yours to find out if they are affected, carriers or clear of this genetic defect that the Smiths have continued to recklessly breed.

As Clumber Spaniel lovers, we will stand together for our breed to educate the people, expose the unethical and help the ones that need the help so much. Our Rescues.

Below is attached one of the first written documents about this genetic mutation.

Thank you to Ron Porras, the CSCA Club President, that he was the one which spearheaded this testing on our beloved Clumbers. Suss*x Spaniels are also affected with this same genetic defect.

And to wrap up our weekend of hiliights of these wonderful 5 puppies that lived in one of the top 100 worst puppymills in the country for their first 7-8 weeks of life.

Here’s Michael! πŸ•πŸŽ‰β£οΈ
He was the tiniest of the 5 weighing in at just 4.61 lbs the day he saw his first vet. This week he has creeped over 30lbs!!

Fun facts for Michael

β€’Michael has a JOB!

He goes to work every single day with his mother, Sandra Miles at her dental office Miles & Michael Dentistry that her daughter also is a dentist with her. Jaimee Michael.
He gives out hugs, kisses 😘 and comfort to any patient that would like some Clumber loving πŸ₯° while at the dentist.
Who Wouldn’t like that??

β€’Michael has a sister that is a 4lb Chihuahua, which he is TOTALLY bossed around by her. He bows down to the queen, since she is the boss of the home.

β€’ If Michael is going anywhere, a baby has to be carried where ever he goes.

β€’Crazy sleeping positions are a must for Michael and he typically gets run out of the big bed and into the chihuahua sized bed by his sister Lola!

β€’Michael’s best friend is Eliza that belongs to Christy Edwards. They play every single day together. This weekend, Michael flushed a bird while Eliza waited for him.

He is the sweetest little boy that will help others in the future, not with just giving calmness to others while he is at his JOB working at the Dental office, but something that will be announced tomorrow right here on this page.

So please come back tomorrow for a HUGE announcement that everyone around the world will be interested in and will learn from Michael.

Stay tuned!!
