Meet Shana

Shana Altschuler’s love for horses began at the age of five. It was then that she asked her mother for riding lessons and her lifelong passion began. At the age of twelve, Shana began riding with Harry DeLeyer in East Hampton, New York where she helped break and train young horses and had the opportunity to participate in many hunter/jumper shows on the A circuit. After high school, Sh

ana attended Skidmore College where she rode on the Equestrian Team. Shana helped led the team to National Championships in 1993 and 1995 and also won the Individual Intermediate Over Fences National Championship in 1993. After College, Shana took a job at Sag Pond Farm (now Wolffer Estate Stables) in Bridgehampton, New York where she trained young horses and young riders. During this time, she travelled on the A horse show circuit and also helped manage a barn of sixty plus show horses and ponies. At Sag Pond, Shana had the opportunity to train with some of the best show jumpers in the world, including Tim Grubb and Joe Fargis. In 1999, Shana briefly left the world of horses to attend law school in New York City and subsequently practiced in the field of corporate litigation before leaving the profession to have children. Shana now lives in Wilmington, Delaware with her husband and three young children and has returned to her true passion in life, horses.

The Owl Ridge team had a great day showing at Two Bit Farm’s spring derby. The Littles all participated in their first derby and achieved fantastic results out of a big group! Reese and Farnley Pilgram were 2nd in the warm up class and 3rd in the derby. Demi and Double Mint were 8th in the Derby. And Ariana and Michelangelo won the warm up class and placed 10th in the derby. Anya and Poppa had two amazing rounds at their very first derby together tackling difficult courses. Lorrie Doyle and Daveney GGF were 4th in their warm up class and had a beautiful trip in the derby with an unfortunate rail. Later in the day, Lillian and Priory Grove were 6th in the warm up and 6th in the derby while Alex Wittig and Balboa Z were 10th and Juliet Vadas’ Domani 25 was 9th out of 45! To wrap up the day, Josephine Buccini and Coco Chanel were 6th in the 3 foot derby and Lydia Chandler and Cassidi won the 3 foot warm up class and placed 8th in the derby. Special thanks to Leigh Berman and Two Bit Farm for running a wonderful show! Congrats to all the Owl Ridge riders!
