What’s up dog lovers? My name is Chevy and I’m a sweet, 22 pound Miniature Pinscher mix. I’m house-trained and crate-trained and with a proper introduction, I do well with other dogs. I am currently being fostered with six other dogs and do great (although I prefer to eat solo). I’m great with cats as well. I am 6-years-old, heartworm negative, neutered, microchipped and vaccinated. I love to sleep in bed and curl up with you at night and watch TV. To adopt me, please call Hamilton's Healing Hearts at 910-271-5170 or email [email protected]. 🐾 Visit www.pawprintsmagazine.com and tap on the cover to meet other adoptable pets in the latest issue.

We've had lots of folks asking for smaller dogs so meet Blakely. This sweet girl came in as a stray and no one came for her. At first she was so terrified staff weren't able to put her on the adoption floor and tried to find a rescue to take her but no one had any space ( that's right folks, rescues have NO fosters even for smaller dogs) but thanks to the awesome staff's patience she's improved enough that they are trying her on the adoption floor. She is very timid so a quiet less active home would be best for her. She will also climb into your lap and you can see she is really precious. She was terrified of the tester dog and told him to back off so a home with no dogs or with other low key dogs who can leave her alone until she settles would be ideal.

She is located at the Wake County Animal Center in Raleigh NC, they are open from 12-6pm for adoptions everyday.

The Myth of Avocado Flesh Toxicity: Busted a Decade Ago! 🥑

Avocados are safe and healthy for dogs 🐶 (and cats, if they’ll eat them 🐱)! These fruits are a legit superfood, loaded with the kinds of nutrition pets need more of (healthy fats). When feeding avocados to your pet, only give them the fleshy part (the same part you eat), and make sure to remove the stems, leaves, pits and skin. 👍

Read today’s free pet wellness article (link below) to learn about the benefits of avocados for pets.

A Myth That Can Hurt Your Cat 😿

Many people believe that one of the advantages of having a cat is their independent nature, which allows them to be left on their own for long periods. But, while cats may not require as much hands-on attention as dogs do, it’s never a good idea to leave them alone for days.

Leaving your cat alone with an all-you-can-eat kibble buffet (the only food that won't spoil sitting out in the open for days) and an unattended stinky litterbox, with no one to see if they become injured or ill, can stress them out and endanger their health. 🐈👎

Read today’s free article for more myths about cats that you should ignore.

An important read
My dogs are eating Orijen and this is sad

Dear Customers,

It was announced about a week ago that Mars Petcare, makers of foods such as Whiskas and Pedigree, has purchased Champion Pet Foods, the makers of Orijen and Acana. We are so disheartened to see this buyout but we are honestly not surprised, as there have been rumors circulating within the industry for about 4 years. I’ve been in the pet food industry for over 20 years and have seen many brands sell out to large industry behemoths time and time again. What follows is almost always a decline in quality, as corners get cut in manufacturing to prepare the brands to enter the mass market. Then the brands enter mainstream, big box pet stores, where they will always be able to charge less than us because of their sheer buying power. We’ve debated long and hard about this but have ultimately decided to pull Acana products off of our shelves by the end of this year.

We know that many of you feed this food and it works well for your pet. Champion will remain in control of their manufacturing until the deal is finalized sometime in the first half of 2023. We will still be able to special order this food for you if you choose to stick with it, but please understand that we will not be participating in their frequent buyer program after 12/31/22. Otherwise, we are HAPPY to discuss other food options for your pet if that makes you feel more comfortable.

As always, thank you for trusting me and my staff to help you navigate pet nutrition. We don’t take that responsibility lightly!
