It's not too late to add this adorable senior to your family just in time for Halloween dress up. And you can see from the pictures Edgar will enjoy dress up just as much as you.

Edgar is an adoptable senior chihuahua mix who started his life at the Pets: Wake County Animal Center until a rescue partner, .rescue, brought him into their program. He is about 10 years old, and weighs 12lbs.

Edgar is the epitome of a lap dog- he always wants to be cuddled on or next to his people. He’ll gingerly paw at you for more scratches since he’s very affectionate and slightly demanding. In addition to cuddling, he’s also passionate about food. Peanut butter is his love language. Edgar is equally happy with or without other dogs around- he doesn’t care as long as you’re there. While Edgar can go on short walks, he’d much rather be carried than walk. When he’s decided he’s done walking he just sits and stares until he’s lifted.

Edgar is potty trained and crate trained, and he’s generally nondestructive. While he’s quiet most of the time, he does bark if he hears something out outside, and he excited barks/squeals when his people come home- it’s adorable. He also barks if you leave him in a room and he wants you to come back and pick him up (re: slightly demanding).

Since coming into Freedom Ride Rescue, Edgar got much needed veterinary care and is now neutered, up-to-date on vaccines, and had 19 teeth removed in a dental procedure. He has luxating patellas in both knees, which shouldn’t require additional care, but he sometimes gets wobbly and he needs to be carried up and down stairs.

Edgar is looking for his forever home to spend the rest of his golden years. More information on Edgar and the adoption process is available at https://www.freedom-ride.org/

Remember, Edgar does not live at the shelter. Make sure you visit Freedom Ride Rescue to meet him.

What’s up dog lovers? My name is Chevy and I’m a sweet, 22 pound Miniature Pinscher mix. I’m house-trained and crate-trained and with a proper introduction, I do well with other dogs. I am currently being fostered with six other dogs and do great (although I prefer to eat solo). I’m great with cats as well. I am 6-years-old, heartworm negative, neutered, microchipped and vaccinated. I love to sleep in bed and curl up with you at night and watch TV. To adopt me, please call Hamilton's Healing Hearts at 910-271-5170 or email [email protected]. 🐾 Visit www.pawprintsmagazine.com and tap on the cover to meet other adoptable pets in the latest issue.

Neighbors shooting off fireworks!
WHY????

We've had lots of folks asking for smaller dogs so meet Blakely. This sweet girl came in as a stray and no one came for her. At first she was so terrified staff weren't able to put her on the adoption floor and tried to find a rescue to take her but no one had any space ( that's right folks, rescues have NO fosters even for smaller dogs) but thanks to the awesome staff's patience she's improved enough that they are trying her on the adoption floor. She is very timid so a quiet less active home would be best for her. She will also climb into your lap and you can see she is really precious. She was terrified of the tester dog and told him to back off so a home with no dogs or with other low key dogs who can leave her alone until she settles would be ideal.

She is located at the Wake County Animal Center in Raleigh NC, they are open from 12-6pm for adoptions everyday.

The Myth of Avocado Flesh Toxicity: Busted a Decade Ago! 🥑

Avocados are safe and healthy for dogs 🐶 (and cats, if they’ll eat them 🐱)! These fruits are a legit superfood, loaded with the kinds of nutrition pets need more of (healthy fats). When feeding avocados to your pet, only give them the fleshy part (the same part you eat), and make sure to remove the stems, leaves, pits and skin. 👍

Read today’s free pet wellness article (link below) to learn about the benefits of avocados for pets.
