A 🌿resilient community 🌿 is one that is interconnected–where people know and care for each other, where they work side by side, share meals, ask questions, listen, and strive to foster an environment where everyone can thrive.

This holiday season, please consider investing in community agriculture. In doing so you'll invest in a healthy wholistic community.

Every contribution toward our $35,000 goal directly supports local families’ access to fresh produce and agricultural education.

For those of you who have already given, thank you!! We're nearly halfway to our goal! Donations can be made at riseup.link/give2025.

We are abundantly grateful for our volunteers!
Thank you for partnering with Rise Up Community Farm to nourish Wilmington and plant hope in our community. The hard work you have invested has grown, harvested, and shared 39,000 pounds of food since 2019! As we begin to scatter cover crop and prepare for 2026, we have been reflecting with gratitude how many generous hands have taken ownership of this land. Thank you for sharing your stories, seeds, and recipes to cultivate a flourishing community that is engaged in building sustainable food security for our neighbors.

As SNAP benefits are held up this month, food assistance services are working hard to identify how to meet the need that will follow.

To highlight the scope of the need: For every 1 meal provided by charitable food assistance, 9 meals are provided by SNAP benefits. This leaves a very significant gap to cover in the coming weeks at a time when food assistance services are already experiencing shortages of food items. Today, House of Mercy Food Pantry served 140 families, a significant rise from their usual 80-100 families.

In the midst of this challenge, people are looking for hope and ways to help. We need to continue working together, spending time with our neighbors, and stepping up to care for one another.

If you are looking to take further action, consider the following:

🥕Check on your neighbors. Sit down to share a meal with people in your community, listen & make sure the needs of those around you are being met.

🥕Follow local leaders to learn about community needs and consider if you are able to support financially, with your time, or other resources.

🥕Collect food items: House of Mercy Food Pantry (also located at 4702 S College Rd) is accepting food donations from 10am-12pm on Mondays and 11am-1pm on Wednesdays. You are also welcome to bring food donations for House of Mercy to the farm during our open hours.

🥕Call your local representatives and ask them to support measures to continue food assistance services.

Individuals caring for each other well goes a long way. Thank you to each of you who help make our work to feed our neighbors possible!

Come harvest with us on Wednesday mornings! We could use a hand with more fall veggies rolling in 🥬Come anytime from 7 am-11:30 am!

We keep our harvest day consistent throughout the year because we are picking produce for the food pantry that runs on Thursdays! Wednesday tasks include not just harvest, but also cleaning and packaging- and just maybe, a taste test or two. It’s always a fun time 🥳

Summer internship complete! Our high school interns worked hard on the farm over July and August, while building up skills and knowledge through hands-on experience and workshops. It was a blast and we got a lot done 💪🏼

We’re so grateful to be able to give an opportunity like this to our local youth!

We love our college students at the farm! So far this year we’ve been fortunate to have a few exceptional students bring their hard work and enthusiasm to our fields and programs.

Evalyn, an agricultural engineering NC State student who has been involved at the farm for years, interned here this summer and took on many projects! With the help of family and friends, she transformed a trailer we acquired from an old coffee cart to our beloved flower cart! 🌻 She is also a beekeeper here on the farm and planted a pollinator garden for her hives 🐝

Grace, an Environmental Science intern from UNCW, has worked alongside Evalyn this summer and was a standout team member! The summer is often a tough time of year to work outside and we have tons to do- but she harvested, installed trellises, stocked our flower cart and helped lead volunteers like a champ 🏅

Charley is a work study student from UNCW in the field of social work! She has been with us since last fall and will continue on in the new semester. She is willing to do anything, make friends with anyone, and has an excitement for the farm that gives us all energy! We’re stoked to continue to work with her and be a place for her to pursue her passion for community engagement!

We have welcomed many college students here at Rise Up over the years that have contributed so much valuable work. If you are a local student interested in being involved, we’d love to have you!

Planting hope, cultivating meaningful futures

A Brief History

Rise Up Community Farm began in February of 2019 when Global River Church generously gave us permission to use a 1/2 acre of land located behind their buildings.

  • February 2019- The first work began, clearing and preparing the land. Volunteers came out and helped us begin leveling a giant mound of dirt that was preventing us from planting.

  • March 2019- A greenhouse was built on the property and several yards of compost helped us prepare our first rows. The first seeds were sown!
