It’s an all around love fest for the misfit cow herd! Marge the yak has taken us by surprise and has started showing affection. Marge has been at B&B for 2 years and has shown no love or affection towards anything! She is an unhandled 16 year old lady and basically feral. We can’t touch her or approach her. She was always very agitated before she had a friend. She would constantly shake her head at us and other animals. She has been so calm since Maxime joined her a year ago, but she has never shown Maxime affection until now. 🥹 This makes us so happy because this means the bonds of friendship are true and run deep! We knew they were companions, but now we can say they are best friends! ❤️

The worst thing is seeing those turkeys eat everything you just spent 2 hours putting down. 😫 Since we started planting our own pasture, we have battled the wild turkeys. They have free rent here but agreed to help us out with some things, like eating the fly larva out of cow 💩 and breaking apart the cow 💩 in the field for fertilizer but….this crosses a line. Ben might have to sit out there 24/7 to protect that new grazing area. 🤣 We still have more sticks and rocks to pick up and more seed to throw down, so the turkeys will be acting like it’s a 24/7 buffet.
This new grazing area will be another rotational grazing spot for the misfit cow herd. They were camping out on this spot all summer while we finished cow beach. Now we can turn it back into pasture.
Ben is taking over the social media account this week to give Jen a break. Not sure how you all should feel about it, but you’ve been warned…. 🤡 🤣

Thank you so much for shopping for the animals! 💜 Most of what we need was purchased, which is amazing! The last hold outs are 2 WiFi cameras and freezer door flaps for shelter doors. These will last years and be something we put up every winter to cut down on drafts.

🐐 Food storage containers so we can safely keep goat feed in the barn. We currently carry 8 bowls over 100 feet from the house to the barn daily due to many meals needing to be soaked. Having safe feed storage in the barn would cut down on 2 bowls!
🔌 Freeze proof outdoor extension cords for heated water buckets. These only last 1 season and usually putter out by April each season.
🎥 3 more WiFi cameras so we can check on the herd easily at any time
⚡️ Solar electric fence charger for the last few weeks of grazing time. The goatie girls are escaping from Queen’s pasture but we want them to enjoy it to the max before ❄️

We know they can hang out for grazing time but we worry about winter when grazing is done and everyone gets a little more uptight around their food. Maxime is a BIG curious gal. She literally makes any job in the cow area difficult. All summer she was a menace with the sunshades. Maxime treated them like her own personal toy. 🧸 Thankfully they are now down. 🙄
Cows are curious, clever, like to have fun and have great memories. Every time we would come to fix the sunshades she thought it was time to play. She also enjoyed using the sunshades as a scratcher 🤦♀️ so we are hoping to install their big scratcher to a post in the cow beach area before winter. Now it’s crunch time with our projects before the ground freezes! ⛄️
