We are posting this here on WAR in case the original post gets taken down by the original poster. Please note we do not have the dog, our rescue is full, the dog is at Bradshaw Animal Control.
Please refrain from giving advice on our WAR post. I will delete your post because the information needs to be correct here in the WAR pages. We want factual information and since we have been talking to Animal Control, we feel we have provided you with all the information needed.
If you were a rescue and posting out of your area, I will also delete your post. We don’t fool around. You need to have factual information for the area that you were in.
So here’s the real story on the dog. I received a call this morning approximately 0815 when I was on my way to Galt to take a dog into the vet. Then I had an appointment at the casino for a fundraising event. The collar who was a wonderful woman was staying with the dog until I got there. She had been with him quite a while.
Another person in a truck tried to load the dog up while the caller was there into his vehicle, but the dog would not go. When I got there, I took out a leash and the dog walked over to me, and I sat and petted him on the head and walked him over to my vehicle, where he jumped in.
The dog was chipped, and I called the owner who lives in Stockton. I left a message on the phone and have not heard back from that individual. Meanwhile, I loaded up two dogs to the shelter including the Husky mix.
Then I heard from Douglas who explained to me he didn’t even know the dog had a chip, and that he had found it near a freeway and kept it. He also said he had the dog for five years. I explained to Douglas that the dog legally was the person registered on the chip. He then said the number was disconnected. Both my husband and I heard him say this and it didn’t make much sense, but I didn’t put it together until later.
So did he know the dog was chipped or did he not know the dog was chipped. Bottom line everyone, the dog is at Bradshaw and unless the person who is on the chip is willing to give it to Douglas - the chip owners has every right to claim their dog. Douglas explained that the dog loves him and he loves the dog too.
Now, here’s the thing that everybody needs to understand. It doesn’t matter that you love the dog and you think he’s really great. If the dog is chipped, it goes back to the owner unless the owner surrenders the dog. If your name is not on the Chip, you do not have any right to the dog.
We hope this all sorts itself out for the benefit of the dog, the original owner, and for Douglas as well. I don’t believe that Douglas did this intentionally, nonetheless, you cannot keep a dog that does not belong to you.
We want what’s best for the dog! Bradshaw staff are the experts - we will leave it in their capable hands.
