A gray day needed some sparkle for Cooper and Bentley!!
Wowza! What a big day for Calvin! We arrived at ISU Vet Clinic this morning and let me say, those people are AMAZING!!
We got some mixed news today. Calvin’s front legs were actually better than we thought. Still knees knocking but Dr was hopeful with adding blocks into his hooves to correct the lean inwards.
The bad news... Calvin’s back legs were worse than expected. We confirmed he was premature as indicated by an undeveloped or lack of a bone in his ankle. One that is important for his hoof to bend correctly. The Dr said basically he didn’t cook long enough for it to grow. It is a bone that the leg ligament stretches over from his leg to his foot. Therefore the future of his back ankles is in question. We were given a choice. Give up on him, said in a nicer way. Or try. I asked if he was in pain or suffering in any way. The Dr said no and when I asked if it were your donkey, she said I would try. So we did. Calvin’s farrier at ISU added the blocks around his front hooves and added bigger blocks with extensions to the rear to help him walk heal to toe basically. He’s getting around pretty well as you can see in this video. Not bad for a guy who couldn’t walk much a week ago.
He also gained a Lb. woo hoo!!
Oh and if you like to learn like me, if you can see in the video that the top of his ears are curled, yep indicates premature and underdeveloped also.
See you in 4 weeks Dr Klein. A special Thank You to our local large animal vet Dr Ashley Wegmann who had faith in Calvin and has helped us get him this far.
Love to all from Calvin!!! 💙
Grayson is always happy to visit us at Green Acres!!
Miss Daisy has shown great improvement. She is now 7 days old and just got to go outside in the pasture for the first time with Bailee. She is eating great today and getting stronger every day!
What do I do when I’m not busy caring for our kennel guests or grooming? I ride on a pallet on the tractor with a mineral tub for the 🐄 😂
