This week we had the pleasure of hosting interns from Humane Indiana Wildlife. They were a big help at the sanctuary and learned new skills like primate husbandry, operant conditioning, and safe capture techniques. We also said goodbye to our wonderful primate intern Isa this week. She is off to work with great apes and to pursue her master’s degree! Thank you all for your hard work, we appreciate you very much!

It’s a beautiful day at Peaceable Primate Sanctuary!
Providing a retirement sanctuary for primates has its ups and downs. Today was a sad day. This morning we said goodbye to Jerry baboon (Jer Bear) , he was the 4th retiree to arrive here on June 9, 2016. He was born in 1999 and was a retired research hero. The last few weeks his health declined and the staff along with our veterinarian made the very difficult decision to let him go. Jerry loved to hang out in the 1/2 acre enclosure with Juniper, Violet and Olivia while also loving to chase them when the opportunity presented itself. He was able to make it to his favorite spot in the enclosure where he peacefully passed surrounded by pure love. Thank you to our wonderful staff and Dr. Bolton for making the past 8 years the best it could be. “ Dearest Jerry we will miss you every day and thank you for allowing us to give you the care you deserved, and graciously accepted. RIP my dear friend.
Another great day thanks to our wonderful staff. Only a day and a half was spent on building our second lemur enclosure. We have some small jobs to complete but the other group of lemurs will be out enjoying the great outdoors soon. Go Team!!
Hard to believe this month celebrates our 9th year of providing a sanctuary for retired research primate. Our first residents were Periwinkle, Violet and Juniper. They are still with us and living the good life in good ole Indiana. From these 3 to currently 89 and still growing. Thank you to everyone for your continued support and encouragement.
We would like to send a big thank you to Kelly and Amanda at Foster Parrots Ltd. and The New England Exotic Wildlife Sanctuary for taking time out of their busy day to speak with Erin and myself about all thing parrot 🦜 and macaw. On top of that they sent tons of information as we start our journey with our new residents. We love collaborating and are so thankful for their help. Give them a like on FB.

Happy world veterinary day. This very special day recognise the tiresome efforts of veterinarians globally. The sanctuary is blessed to have Dr Bolton providing her expertise and compassion to our retirees. Her love and commitment to our residents is beyond words. In addition let’s also celebrate our veterinarian technician Brittany who works so very close with Dr. Bolton. Let’s show them our appreciation.

Say hello to Bea (retired 2 week ago) and Bruno (retired yesterday). We are very successful with monkey introductions and that is due to a very observant and dedicated staff. Introductions with monkeys can be very difficult and we don’t get into them very lightly. Our mission / goal is to make sure that all of our retirees have a friend to spend time with. This is only possible because of our dedicated sanctuary manager and primate caretakers. Thank you to all for going above and beyond. 🎥 :Sanctuary manager Erin
Our wood chip projects continue. Today the chickens and guineas received chips in their enclosure and are having a great time. Thank you to our primate caretakers and sanctuary manager along with C&J affordable tree service for the assistance. We have 3 enclosures down and 1 to go. CHIP CHIP HOORAY!!
Time is running out, our “Bidding with Compassion” online auction ends today. Come and support all of our retirees at primatesanctuary.afrogs.org Lots of fine monkey art that will definitely be a conversation starter. Funds raised will purchase additional swings for all the monks (here is Shorty showing how it’s done) . Thank you for all of your support.
Let’s welcome new retiree Beto! He is 10 years old and as you can see he is enjoying his first day of retirement. What do you think of that belly flop (cannonball) ? We say 10-10-10 across the board. Welcome our new friend. 🎥 : Sanctuary manager Erin
