Thank you to everyone that has checked on us. All the retirees are snug as a monkey in a rug. Much appreciate to our care staff for making sure all of our essential supplies are well stocked. We have backup generators, heaters and will preform checks throughout the evening. Stay warm everyone and please bring your pets indoors.

Let’s say welcome and Happy Birthday to Mia. She came to us 2 weeks ago and has settled in nicely. She is in quarantine currently but will move to the main baboon area very soon. Today we celebrated her 1st birthday with lots of fruit 🍎 🍉 treats and plenty of things to destroy. Happy Bday Mia!!!!

Time to say hello to our 102nd retiree. He is 7 years old and his name is Gizmo, he arrived early this morning and now living with Esme. He is not a big fan of the snow but it will grow on him. We are thrilled to offer him retirement and applaud the facility that has made a commitment to retirement. Let’s give him some well wishes and 💕. All of this is only possible because of our large sanctuary family.

Round 2, first day out for the new baboon retirees.

01/10/2025

Today our new baboons got to see their outdoor areas and experience snow. We need to build some outdoor platforms and climbing structures in the spring but we couldn’t wait that long. Look at Irwin jumping for joy in the back. Anyone up for some construction in the spring? Email us at [email protected]

As 2024 comes to an end we must pause to reflect on all that we accomplished this year. With your help we said welcome to 22 additional retirees, that brings us to 100 residents. In addition we welcomed two more retirement facilities into our family. But wait there is more, let’s not forget we constructed 4 new primate facilities and the Vie Bonum Wellness Center. All of this is only possible because of the village. What is the village you may ask? It is our primate carestaff, office staff, sanctuary manager, veterinarians and vet tech, volunteers and of course our donors and supporters. Next year will only be bigger and better and we are glad you are part of the journey as we assist primates with their voyage “From Research to Retirement” .
Please be safe and kind this New Years Eve.

We hope that everyone had a wonderful holiday season. We continue to make a huge impact with primate retirement, we are only able to due this with the help of our terrific supporters. We have a new addition to our sanctuary (not a primate) but a new vehicle. This will allow us to pick up donated produce and in addition allow us to offer transport to our growing family of retirement facilities. We have done several primate transports already and we are always up for more. Remember, we are a full service retirement sanctuary. With the unseasonably warm weather we are moving forward with the baboon addition for our 23 new retirees in April. There is so much going on and we are thankful that you have joined us on our crazy journey to move primates “From Research to Retirement”

Our holiday party was today and I received the best present from our office staff and animal carestaff. When the sanctuary is given the opportunity to tell our story it makes all of us stop to remember that it truly does takes a village to do what we do. We are honored to be given the opportunity to provide these amazing beings with their much deserved retirement. Thank you to everyone but special thanks to the amazing individuals that I get to spend my days with.

It’s always hard to say goodbye. Earlier this month we lost 2 of our friends. Dudley came from a hoarding situation in Michigan where his owners pulled all of his teeth except for 2 and fed him a diet of junk food. Even though he was here for just 2 years he made a huge impact on so many people. He was extremely protective of his friend Sissy but at the same time loved to greet old and new friends with a rambunctious round of lip smacking.
Betty White arrived from a hoarding situation right here in Indiana. When we met her we knew she would not be with us long. She was in very rough shape and could barely stand or walk but with a lot of TLC and some pain meds she was able to enjoy some wonderful times at the sanctuary. She loved to cuddle and enjoyed the great outdoors. Special thanks to our care and veterinarian staff for caring for them with open hearts and giving them a peaceful passing. We will miss Dudley and Betty White so much but they will always be a wonderful part of the sanctuary. Rest easy.

Thank you to Lorrie Barrett and Chicago magazine for the wonderful story. It was a pleasure meeting her and we are thankful for getting the opportunity to show her why primate retirement is needed and also embraced by so many research facilities. Please help us get the word out by sharing far and wide.
