Patience, Practice and more Patience when helping your leash reactive pup become less reactive and calmer on their walks. Here are some tips to get you started:
🐾Manage the environment: Avoid situations that trigger your dogs reactivity. This might mean taking walks at off peak hours or choosing less crowded routes.
🐾Focus on positive reinforcement: Reward your dog with treats or praise for calm behavior when they see their trigger. The key is to create a positive association with the trigger.
🐾Practice attention commands: Teach your dog a strong “Look at me” or “heel” command.
🐾Desensitize and counter conditioning: Gradually expose your dog to their trigger at a safe distance where they do not react. Pair the trigger with something pleasant like treats, to help them develop a more positive association. Over time , slowly decrease the distance between your dog and the trigger while continuing to reward calm behavior.
No Dog Too Small would love the opportunity to guide you and your dog through these skills. Currently offering 10% off first time clients for our Dog Training Packages. Call Deborah at(781)218-9217 or book a free consultation so we can help answer any questions for you.

There are many reasons our dogs feel stressed while leash walking . Here are a few reasons;
🐾Some dogs may become reactive on a leash because they feel restricted and unable to escape from perceived threats.
🐾Lack of Socialization: This may have them react out of fear or anxiety when encountering them
🐾Protectiveness: Dogs are naturally protective of their owners and may react on a leash they perceive a threat to their owners safety.
🐾Frustration or excitement: some dogs may become overly excited or frustrated when they cannot freely run or explore their environment.

The dreaded doorbell ! What do we want our dog to do when guests arrive at our front door. Here Jimena’s goal is to have Canela go to her place when guests arrive . Using cues like , ‘Go to place’ ‘stay’ and then ‘release’ has given Canela directions on what do when guests arrive .
🐾Before Canela has mastered resting on her place when guests arrive, she must first understand her basic skills such as ‘sit’ ‘stay’ and ‘come’. This will make it easier to train them to go to their place on command.
🐾Choose a designated place or bed: Your dog should have a designated spot in the house where they can go to relax and feel safe. This could be a dog bed or crate. Make sure this spot is always in the same location so your dog knows where to go.
🐾Start with a quiet doorbell sound : To begin training , start with low -volume doorbell sound and gradually increase the volume as your dog becomes more comfortable with the sound. You can use a doorbell sound in your phone or doorbell training device.
🐾Use positive reinforcement: when your dog goes to their place or bed after hearing the doorbell sound, reward them with a treat or praise. This will encourage them to associate the doorbell sound with positive rewards.
🐾Practice regularly: Practice the training regularly so your dog becomes familiar with the routine. You can even enlist the help of friends or family members to ring the soo to simulate a real situation.
🐾Keep training sessions short: Training sessions should be short and consistent to keep your dog engaged and focused.
🐾Stay patient and positive!!

Dog Walking can be an active time between your dog and the walker . You can practice good manners and important skills like recall while keeping it fun . Today with Jesse we began a lesson on sitting before leaving the house . Then we practiced recall on a long lead while playing with his favorite ball. #dogwalking#dogwalkinglife#dogwalkingservices#dogwalkingbusiness#dogwalkingadventures #petsittingservices#petsittingadventures @nodogtoosmall
