With upcoming school breaks and holidays approaching, I would like to make clients aware that boarding has gone down to one or two dogs from the same family at a time. Dogs must be good with cats, small animals, dogs, kids, fully house trained (meaning no marking), and either be easily walked on a leash or have a strong recall. Dogs go through an adolescent journey just like we do. Complete with hormone changes, brain rewiring, and growing pains. Your once sweet puppy has turned into a T-Rex, and you feel like you've lost control.
This is a crucial time in their development that takes patience. In a grooming setting, we often see regression and much more acting out. It's important to continue working with your dog at home to desensitize them to being handled and navigating new situations. Finding a groomer that will help you and them through this stage is critical so that they are not traumatized by being pushed through to complete a full service they are not able to handle. This can lead to trauma and a lifelong unwillingness to be handled.

Most know that starting your puppy young with grooming is a must, but did you know waiting until they are 6 months is considered too late to begin? Even if your dog comes into your care after that point, it is essential to begin immediately desensitizing them to being handled. Before even taking your pup to the groomer (around 12 weeks), you can work with your pup on preparing them for the things they will encounter while at the groomer.
You can set your pup up for success by: *Brushing them ALL over
*Lifting up their legs
*Holding their paws
*Gently blow them with your hair dryer
*Use a safe object to touch their face
It's important to do your best to make sure they know not to bite or chew on any "tool" you use so that they won't bite the sharp tools I will be using for their haircut.

It's that time of year! You know, skunk season. While they're out trying to find love, your dog wants to find out if the thing in their yard is friend or foe. Def not friend, it turns out. So what now?!

DO NOT GET YOUR DOG WET
Skunk spray is an oil, water won't do much good.
1. Pat down your dog in straight Dawn with no water to break down the oil and let sit for 30 minutes.
2. Mix peroxide, baking soda, dawn or degreaser dog shampoo (I find the citrus ones work best). You can wet coat and use this as a shampoo. Once covered, let sit for 10-20 minutes.
3. Rinse throughly.
4. Bath with regular pet shampoo/conditioner to make sure the baking soda is out and the hair doesn't dry out.

It is possible that any time your dog gets wet for the next year, you will smell skunk, but this process will cut back on that significantly. If you get your dog wet first, be prepared to fight that smell for a long time.

Winter weather is upon us. During bad weather, appointments are usually left up to the client to determine if they wish to make it or not. I do ask that any client unable to make it to their appointment to let me know ASAP. No call/no shows will still encure a fee. Pick up and drop off appointments will be based on Clark County Schools. If there is no school, your appointment will need to be rescheduled. I do not wish to risk the safety of your pet. Please reach out if needed!

So I thought I was going to be cool and make a video with updates and what not hoping not to write a long winded post, but it turns out I have some work to do when it comes to talking on camera🤣.
Instead, here are the highlights:

🐾I'm sure you all have noticed I have been a bit MIA this summer. I needed to take a bit of a step back and focus on some things with my family. If you have reached out and I wasn't able to get back with you, please reach out again, and I will get back to you ASAP.

🐾With school starting back, my kid's schedule has changed, so that means mine will too slightly. Mainly that I will have more openings available on Mondays and Tuesdays 🧼. Larger bath dogs will more than likely not be one on one appointments going forward. Most have a hard time standing for so long, and the breaks help them to have a much better experience. Also, one of those family things was that we lost my main dog transport vehicle, which will make pick up and drop off services for large dogs a bit more tricky, but I am trying to come up with a way around it in order to still offer that service.

🐾After spending so much time at the vets office with Winston before he passed, I noticed a large number of people waiting for nail trims for well over an hour. If your pup needs a nail trim, give me a shout. Nail trims usually take less than 15 minutes, saves you time, and your pup will have less anxiety without the build up of anticipation. Yes, this means even those of you who groom your pup at home but can't do the nails 😉.

❗️Please keep in mind that I will be closed completely during fall break (Oct 14th-22nd). Any grooming appointments that would normally fall during this time will have to be rescheduled.❗️

Hopefully I will get better at making videos and be able to bring you educational videos on how to help you better understand your pup, gain a better relationship, and even ways to help your dog be successful during their grooming appointments. My number one goal in being a dog professional is to help you and your dog have an enriched and fulfilling life together.

Until then, long-winded posts it is and I will leave you with the many outtakes of said video, our very sad van, and some pups.

This week has been a tough one. Winston was the first, and sometimes only, dog of mine that my client dogs ever met. He made so many of your dogs feel welcomed and less scared of being away from home. Even dogs who were usually not dog friendly seemed to find some comfort in him being around. My life will never be the same without him.

I do ask that condolences are not said in person as an ugly crying groomer probably isn't the safest.

Charlie #1, Aka Girl Charlie, aka Charlotte is the original Charlie I agreed to foster, but upon arrival she wasn't feeling great and we all felt it was best to quarantine her until she was better. Now that she has recovered, she is back for a couple weeks for an evaluation and some board and train work.

If you can't tell she is a Boxer mix and boy does her personality tell it! She is full of life and eager to please. Even as a bouncy boxer, she listens well and tries her best to remember her manners.

After a crazy series of events, I have once again found myself fostering!! This is Charlie #2 (Charlie #1 will return in several days). Charlie's mom passed away less than a month ago and he has found himself in need of a new home. I am giving him time to decompress and adjust to the new environment, but can say he is a very low energy boy. What I know about Charlie is that he was raised by an elderly lady and it shows. She had 2 smaller dogs and grandchildren that were in and out of the home that he did well with.
Charlie is only with me for the next couple weeks, but we are hoping to find him a home in that time. Please share and help this gentle guy find a great home!

April is a month of career anniversaries for me.
🐩 8 years ago, I started in the grooming industry
🐕 9 years ago, I officially became a certified dog trainer
🐾 18 years ago (of what I count), I started in the pet industry.

I am beyond grateful for what my career has helped me achieve both personally and professionally. Getting to help people grow in their relationship with their dogs is such a blessing for me. I am excited to find ways to expand my knowledge and ability to help pets and their people ❤️

Also...6 years ago today, this sweet nugget started daycare and has been like a family member ever since!
