As many of you have heard, House of Houndz is a cage free, one-on-one grooming salon which is a much different dynamic than a traditional grooming setting, but in many postive ways! We understand that change can be scary, so for those who’ve been curious or for those who’ve never had an experience like what our salon offers, allow us to take a moment to share some frequently asked questions and shed light on our salon atmosphere…

Q: What exactly IS cage free?!
A: Cage free just means that your dog isn’t in a tight containment space, like a crate. It doesn’t mean, however, that your dog cannot be placed in a spacious containment area, away from other dogs should it be needed. Hunter (our magnificent lead groomer) is well trained and has many years experience with dog behavior and reading dog body language, so easily picks up on subtle cues that indicate stressors. We will always honor your request to keep your dog in a safe and spacious containment area away from other dogs. You know your dog best, and if they just don’t do well with others, or if it is simply just your preference, we understand and can absolutely accommodate that need for the utmost comfort of you and them.
Many dogs love the ability to move freely about the salon, sometimes with others, and often display playful behavior forming a positive association with the salon environment. We want them to be excited to visit us for their routine grooms in a playful and happy space. Aside from this, dog interaction is for a very short time frame (usually less than an hour) due to our one-on-one style.

Q: So, what is one-on-one grooming?
A: Many traditional salons offer early morning drop-off with afternoon and evening pick-up, meaning your dog can be in the salon (and confined to a crate) for up to 6-8 hours. House of Houndz being a one-on-one salon, means your dog is scheduled for a specific time and upon their arrival, they are groomed straight through and returned to you as soon as they are finished. This aides in developing a trust and confidence in us and our environment. Just like people appointments… they are checked in, remain with their respective groomer at all times, and upon completion, it’s time to go home! Most grooms typically take 1.5-2 hours depending on breed, coat condition, and services rendered.

Q: How do you accommodate my dog who is elderly or has a medical condition and needs to be alone in the salon?
A: We offer first and last appointments of the day to allow those dogs to have the salon to themselves.

Q: How many dogs are in the salon at once?
A: As a one-on-one salon, there is little overlap between the dog currently being groomed and the arrival of the next client. We do accommodate dogs from the same household on occasion and in this case, there can be multiple dogs present until all are finished. Again, overlap in time is usually very short.

Please feel free to contact us with any questions or requests you may have. We are excited to provide this unique, calm, and compassionate grooming atmosphere in Wi******er, and sincerely appreciate the opportunity to earn your trust.

As most of you know Kylie's last day in Wi******er is this Friday May 31st. Kylie has owned the Diamond for almost 10 years, and she has grown to love her clients, both furry and human, and they love her. She has done a wonderful job and can be proud of her accomplishments. Kylie will be continuing her grooming career at the House of Houndz Richmond location and her loyal clients are in good hands with the new owners. Please join me in wishing Kylie the best in her new venture.

As many of you know Wi******er lost one of our hometown heroes Sargent Jackson this week. The Wi******er police has announced a special procession to honor him and everything he has done for our community. We will be opening our parking lot for standing room only so our community can show their finial respects as well. There will be no thru traffic in front of the salon but there is parking available on each side of our building.

Funeral services for former Chief and current Sergeant, William Marty Jackson II, will be held at George Rogers Clark High School Gymnasium on Saturday, April 20, 2024.

Family and WPD only visitation from 8am-9am

Public visitation begins at 9am until service time

Funeral service begins at 12pm

Following the funeral service, the procession will travel from GRC, down the Bypass to the Interstate. The procession will exit the Interstate at Exit 96 to come into downtown on Maple Street. The procession will pass by WPD Headquarters before continuing to Lexington Avenue, ending at Wi******er Cemetery.

You will be directed by personnel on site at GRC the day of the funeral where to park and where to enter the gymnasium. We also encourage those who cannot attend, but wish to line the funeral procession route to do so safely. See photo of procession route.

The family of Sergeant Marty Jackson and the Wi******er Police Department continue to thank the public for your outpouring of support. We would like to thank Clark County Public Schools Scobee Funeral Home and Supporting Heroes for their hard work in their preparation for this upcoming funeral service for Unit 38.

📣 WE HAVE EXCITING NEWS!!!! 📣 Our salon IS NOT CLOSING, but will now be under new ownership! A Diamond in the Ruff will begin the transition into House of Houndz - Wi******er, effective immediately. This is exciting news as we will be able to continue to serve all of our loyal clients, and now also accept new clients! Peyton and Kylie will both continue to be familiar faces in the salon, and at the end of May will then welcome Hunter Thomas Hill, of Wi******er, a talented, experienced groomer that is excited to make the move from the Lexington House of Houndz location and serve the community she calls home. Please contact us as normal to schedule your grooming appointments or with any questions, and we look forward to this exciting new venture!!! 🐾 🐩

REPORTING ANIMAL NEGLECT

Daily our office receives reports of animals possibly being neglected. Fairly often, we receive voicemails through the night from citizens that are no doubt well-intentioned and obviously passionate about an animal they see but they fail to leave the information needed for us to act. This morning was a voicemail from a female that was obviously upset and yelling in her message. She was describing a dog that was without shelter and shivering. The dilemma is that she did not leave an address or identifiable location of the dog and she did not leave her name or a call back number. It makes us sick to our stomachs to think that an animal will not get what it needs. This person thinks they have reported in and we aren’t doing anything about it but the truth is we really want to and we hope they will call back again or maybe someone else sees it and will call so we can check on this pup.
If you see an animal that you are concerned about please help us by following these steps:
1. Have the address where the animal is located or a specific description of the location if an address cannot be found.
2. A description of the animal(s) and what your specific concern is.
3. Please leave your phone number. You can choose to not leave your name but a call back number can mean the difference when there is anything unclear about the report or situation.
4. Please do not get frustrated or angry when we ask questions. Each report opens an investigation so when we ask questions there is a reason. The extra information may help us be able to help that animal more quickly.

We all want to help so let’s work together to improve the lives of animals in our community.

WEATHER ALERT
Dangerously low temperatures are coming next week with lows falling below zero. Now is the time to prepare and make plans to protect your pets.
Chained, caged and confined animals are most susceptible to cold temperatures.
🐾Be sure your pet has a dry, warm place to get in out of the weather. In these temperatures it would be recommended to bring pets indoors, into a home or even just a barn or garage.
🐾Your pet must have access to a sturdy shelter (roof, 4 walls and a floor) and that shelter must have organic bedding (straw) not towels or blankets. If your pet is in any non-heated area like a garage or barn they still need access to shelter such as a doghouse to keep their body heat contained.
🐾 Be sure that the area is dry and free from standing water. A layer of straw should be spread to cover muddy spots.
🐾 While outdoors be sure that your pet can move around freely to generate body heat.
🐾 Stack flakes or bales of straw around the shelter to create insulation.
🐾 Be sure that the shelter is placed in the best area to block wind and weather with the opening facing away from the wind. Being placed on a certain side of a structure and right against the structure can be helpful.
🐾 If your pet has an enclosure, use tarps and straw to create windbreaks.
🐾 Provide constant access to fresh, unfrozen water and plenty of quality food.

🐶 We will provide a crate if you will bring your outside dog indoors during the weather!
🐶 Assistance with straw is available!

Call (859)737-0053 to request assistance!

Calling us for assistance means that we provide help with preparing your pets for the weather. If we receive a complaint from someone else and find your pets without the needed resource you may be criminally charged with animal neglect. Take action and take care of your pets.
