Jace: The Dog 🐶 Behind the Mural
When we envisioned a special mural for our newly renovated shelter, we wanted to feature an animal whose story truly embodies the transformative power of love and resilience. While every animal who comes through our doors is special, some stories resonate deeply and deserve to be celebrated in a big way. And that's exactly why we chose Jace.
Jace's journey began with uncertainty, left behind at a local campground and homeless for months. But his path led him to Animal Harbor, where he found safety, nourishment, and crucial treatment for heartworm disease. Medically cleared and with a newfound zest for life, Jace was ready for his next chapter.
Meanwhile, a family was navigating unimaginable grief after the tragic loss of their beloved daughter. In their profound sorrow, Renay gently encouraged her husband, Tim, to consider opening their hearts and home to a dog. They reached out to Animal Harbor, and while one dog initially caught their eye online, it was Jace who stole their hearts during their meet and greet. The moment Jace ran to Tim, laid at his feet, and looked up at him, they knew—he was meant to be theirs.
Jace and his new family quickly became each other's reason to not only survive but to truly live again. Jace became even more than a beloved companion; he is Tim's service dog, a constant source of comfort and support. Their bond is a beautiful testament to how love saves, heals, and brings light even in the darkest of times—proving that pet adoption can truly save a human life.
Today, Jace and his family made a special trip to visit us. What they thought was an ordinary visit turned into an emotional surprise! We were thrilled to reveal the mural created in Jace's honor, celebrating his incredible journey and the profound impact he's had. Happy tears flowed, a testament to the powerful connection they share.
Jace's story powerfully illustrates the incredible human-animal bond. It strengthens our mission to connect homeless animals with their forever people, because we believe that more lives can be saved—on both ends of the leash.
