Karma and Gryffin were struggling with reactivity when out on patios with their dad, and they went home with him last night after having a relaxed and enjoyable time out with a ton of dogs around 🙌
Robin’s turn!
Robin is also a reformed leash reactive guy, and also a bad leash puller who pulled his dad down a ravine the week before training! Now he’s able to be relaxed and curious about things on his walks without the bad manners.
Another day, another little heeling rock star 🌟
Moss doing excellent at the park this morning 🙌
Dogs do not need to interact with strange dogs in public, and part of being an advocate for our dog is keeping distances that make sure our dog is comfortable and relaxed. Our heeling behavior also gives a safe spot for dogs like Moss who struggled with some leash reactivity.
Out training the current class of dogs and ran into graduates Bory and Melee! We love seeing our old friends out and about
Moss working around some dog distractions this afternoon, and rocking his sit stay.
Moss came to us with issues with dog reactivity stemming from frustration and not understanding how to “speak dog”. He is way more comfortable and relaxed around dogs in all environments now, and is doing excellent tonight with my boys running around.
Pretty girl Summer rocking some heeling during her go home lesson 🙌
4 month old Penelope demonstrating her new and improved door manners and heeling on her first day home 🙌 Having great manners and impulse control when exiting doors is not only important for safety, but it also sets us up our dog for success on the walk. Loose leash walking and resisting distractions is a lot easier for our dogs when they start off relaxed and paying attention to us.
Ellis the German Shepherd being a rockstar for some off leash heeling while my dogs are out for a run. Ellis struggled with being overstimulated by dogs in the past, and she has learned how to have impulse control and feel more comfortable around dogs that are excitable and energetic.
One big reason we LOVE getting young puppies in for training is that we can create good habits from the beginning, and teach them that we are the most important thing in their lives. Samson knows he is allowed to enjoy play and social time, but he also has to recall away from other dogs the second we ask. Excellent work from this young guy 🙌
A little set up for Athena in her neighborhood tonight.
We are big, big advocates for defensive handling and advocating for your dog in public so that they don’t have to put up with rude dogs in their face.
But we all know that loose dogs and similar situations sometimes can’t be avoided. We like to prepare dogs for this in a controlled way, with dogs we know (good job distraction dog Clue!), and where we can ensure a good experience where our dog builds confidence in handling these situations.
Myla graduated in October and her mom was so happy with Myla’s new skills that she sent golden girl Paisley this month. Now it’s possible for her to safely walk both girls without being dragged.
Some perfect leash manners from baby Vega the standard poodle 🙌
We are big believers in the power of home based board and train.
A kennel setting provides plenty of distractions, but not necessarily of the type your dog will encounter in your own home. Reese is killing it around the distractions of dinner and other dogs walking around 🙌
Hands free heeling with service dog in training Aspen.
Part of being a service dog means ignoring people, merchandise, dropped stuff on the ground, other dogs, and being easy to handle while going about normal shopping.
A lot is said about people ignoring vests and trying to distract service dogs, and it’s definitely a problem, but the dog also needs to be trained to ignore such thing because we can never fully control the public.
Juno enjoying off leash freedom 🙌
Training should never shut a dog down or make them a robot.
Juno’s reliable off leash recalls mean she can enjoy playing ball, playing with dogs, and playing with leaves while still being safe and responsive to her owners. That is always the balance we want to hit with training.
