PET AWARENESS: HEAT STROKE
Heatstroke is a condition caused by the body overheating, usually as a result of prolonged exposure to high outside temperatures, or physical exertion in high temperatures. Heatstroke can also occur in moderate environmental temperatures through excessive internal heat production due to exercise (excessive playing / running), excitement or stress, especially in animals that are limited in their ability to cool down their bodies (all short nosed breeds, breeds with very dense coats).

Excessive panting and signs of discomfort indicate overheating. However, it is important to be aware of the ambient temperature and take appropriate preventative measures. Any hot environment can cause heatstroke, but the most common cause is careless actions such as leaving a dog in a car on a hot day or forgetting to provide shade to an animal kept outdoors. It is essential to remove your pet from the hot environment immediately and call Windercare Animal Clinic for treatment.

For an emergency outside our business hours please call the Veterinary Emergency Clinic of Central Florida at 407-644-4449.

April is Heartworm Awareness Month. Engaging in heartworm prevention is one of the best ways to help pets stay healthy. Call 407-347-8353 to talk to our team about heartworm prevention options and ✨DEALS✨ currently available for your pets.

Heartworm disease is a very serious disease that affects both cats and dogs. It's caused by foot-long worms that settle into the heart, blood vessels and the lungs of an affected pet. These types of worms can cause severe right-sided heart disease and lung disease and can be potentially deadly if not caught in time. Pets that survive heartworm disease often have a lower quality of life because of the damage to their organs. Mosquitoes are the most common carrier of heartworm. A female mosquito picks up larvae in the bloodstream of an infected animal, then transmits the larvae into the next animal it bites. Dogs are a perfect host for heartworms which is why they're most affected by the parasite, but cats can also become hosts. All it takes it routine testing and monthly prevention to keep your pet SAFE! Have more questions? We are here to help! Give us a call at 407-347-8353 talk to our team about heartworm prevention options for your pets.

Remember .. You can dress your dogs as the Easter bunny for the holiday, but be sure to keep them far away from the egg hunt.

It’s commonly known that chocolate can be fatal if a dog gets ahold of it, but new data shows that chocolate poisoning in dogs nearly doubles during Easter time.

Grapes, raisins, currants and sultanas are all toxic to dogs, so treats such as hot cross buns and Simnel cake should be hidden away, too, as well as leftovers from an Easter roast that could be too salty or too fatty.
