It also surrounds the importance of breed preservation, ensuring the breed stays true to its origins, all whilst maintaining a moral code of ethics. Responsible breeding is health testing hips, elbows, knees, heart, eyes, temperament testing, CCA testing. If you’re interviewing for a puppy, ask to see pedigree. Ask to see health testing. Meet the puppy parents. Read over the contracts.

At 11 months old, a Golden Retriever puppy is close to its full adult size, but may still grow a bit more over the next few months. At this age, Golden Retrievers can weigh between 60–70 lbs, and their legs, nose, and mouth may grow faster than the rest of their body, making them look a little lanky. Their coats will also start to thicken and develop their distinctive feathering, transitioning from their softer, fluffier puppy coat to their adult coat. Exercise is pertinent at this age, daily walks a must to keep the weight healthy. Unhealthy weights can lead to elbow, knee, and hip issues, heart disease, and diabetes.

Ramona earned her CCA Title this morning! She did so well showing and we’re super proud! CCA title is important in breeding programs because the owners receive both verbal and written feedback from the evaluator, and evaluations are confidential. The dog receives a numerical score based on the breed standard, and those that score above a 75 are granted the title, which can be put on the dog’s AKC record.
