FOWAS is now CATS (& Dogs) Northeast Volunteer Team!

We have changed our name and would like to let everyone know why!

Our journey as FOWAS started with the goal of helping the dogs from Windham Animal Control and the cats from CATS Northeast find furever homes through social media advertising. However, as is what happens on life’s journeys, our mission has grown and evolved. Over the past few years, we’ve helped hundreds of dogs and cats find new loving furever homes and fostered dozens of medical recovery cases.

The rescue we help is CATS Northeast, but as there is a growing need throughout CT, we’ve started receiving calls for help from other towns in the state. Our objective of helping the town of Windham has expanded to helping animal control officers throughout the state. These animals come to us through many different paths, such as strays, owner surrenders, and pulling animals in need from different pounds in the state. We have even taken many pets that were originally adopted from different rescue organizations that have refused to take their animals back.

We are a group of volunteers who help the lives of dogs and cats in need through CATS Northeast inc.

CATS Northeast inc. is a 501 (c) 3 organization whose mission is Cats Assisted Through Spay/Neuter.

Our first goal in rescue is to provide proper medical care for the cats and dogs that come in through grants and donations. Our adoption fees cover the necessary vetting for a cat or dog to be able to start their new life on the right paw. We always spay/neuter, microchip, vaccinate, and heartworm test, as well as an FIV/FeLV test for cats and 4DX test for dogs. Many pets also receive additional vetting as needed, but that is never reflected in an adoption fee. We have funded the repair of a broken humerus on a young cat that was found hit by a car, and also funded a salivary gland surgery on a dog, among many other projects.

Our second goal is to place cats and dogs in homes that are the best match for the pet and owner. We assist beyond the adoption, serving as a resource for advice and support throughout the lives of the pets we adopt into loving families.

We’re more than just serving the Windham community. We’re dedicated to serving as many cats and dogs in Connecticut as we can. We are the CATS (& Dogs) Northeast Volunteer Team.

Meet Jinx
Two-year-old Jinx was abandoned in an empty apartment along with two other lovely cats. He is sweet, sociable, and good with other cats. He's pretty perfect.
His favorite thing to do is flopping and rolling for petting. He is now neutered, vaccinated, microchipped & negative for FeLV/FIV

Where are our beagle fans because this handsome young man needs a home!!

Background: Flapjack came from the Hartford pound.
Current Description: He is happy! He's got hops! He's got a working sniffer that he enjoys putting to work. He loves food!
No for real, this guy just got here and he is a lot of fun already and is super sweet and shows lots of promise with using his brain.
He's actually pretty quiet when he's with his human, he does his beagle baying if he's not with you.

Type of home they would need now: he would like a home that is prepared for a hound. Beagles make noise, beagles want to follow their nose. Please do your research on the breed if you've never had one but he will be an awesome little friend to share life and adventures with.

Background: Echo was originally pulled from a local hoarding case where he lived in a home with many other dogs, animal control stepped in to assist the owner in finding them new homes.
He went to a local pound and was taken by someone who helped get him all of the necessary vetting that he needed and she also put in a lot of time to help him become a more confident and trusting boy. With his previous foster home he has spent time with dogs and cats and gotten to know well behaved children.
He then came to us to help him along on the next leg of his journey as he's ready to find a forever home!

Current Description: Echo is a sweet and quiet boy. Who would love a home that is not hectic, he would prefer an easy going environment. He would do best with at least one other dog in the home. He is very much a follower that wants to have strong and confident dog friends to show him the ropes.

Special Needs: just that he needs dog friends in his new home!

Fraggle has found his forever home! And boy this boy has been through a lot! His owner passed away, he has no desire for any attention or interactions for a while, had a major dental, but finally he has come around 💙

Yup Ham is still here :( he doesn't understand how, but he has been with us since April 2024 and is struggling to find a furever home. His foster family adores him, he is easy to train, loves walks, loves his dog friends and people!

Are you looking for a new addition to the family? Do you have friends or family you could share with that may be looking for a new addition to their family? Please share so he can find the best fit possible!
We have dubbed him Porkchop and his foster family is also calling him Pugsley.
Porkchop is a 4 month old puggle who is very much a puppy.
He is ready for a home that is ready for puppy energy! He loves kids, dogs and cats - he is fostered with all of the above. He does want to play with the dogs and cats so other animals in a prospective home should be ready to play! He does have 1 cherry eye, this can be corrected.

This adorable senior kitty is Chloe!
Chloe lost her home in an eviction. She's a sweet friendly plump gal who loves people but not other animals. She would love to be the queen of your home and soak up all your love. Chloe is spayed and current on vaccines. There is no adoption fee, we just want her to have a home, although donations are always appreciated. She would be a perfect senior for a senior!

Strudel was a street kitty when we got her. She's a very friendly young adult and always looking for attention. She can hold her own around other cats and doesn't seem too bothered by them but it's really people she craves. We did all her vet care (spay, vaccines, microchip, FeLV/FIV testing) and she's ready for a new home! Email [email protected]

We want to introduce one of our newest intakes who is looking for your support through donations! Meet Itty Bitty, she is sweet as pie, tiny, and has a lot of gusto! We aren't sure of how she got this way but, Itty Bitty was found with what appeared to be a broken leg. Upon exam and x-rays, her humerus was broken, had shifted, and started to calcifiy. She underwent surgery to clean up, reposition, and pin and plate the limb with screws. She is out of surgery hanging with her foster on crate rest while she works on healing and slowly starting to reuse her limb.
