Riding To The Top Therapeutic Riding Center

Riding To The Top Therapeutic Riding Center We support people from six counties in ME! RTT is a safe, supportive environment that fosters respect, innovation and diversity.

Since 1993, Riding To The Top (RTT) has provided therapeutic horseback riding services to thousands of children and adults with a wide range of physical, emotional and/or learning disabilities. RTT offers therapeutic riding from its 50 acre farm located just off of Route 302 in Windham, approximately 7 miles from the heart of Portland. We have a herd of therapeutic riding horses and a wonderful fa

cility that includes a heated indoor arena with attached program and office space, an outdoor arena and miles of trails. Riding To The Top is an inclusive community where people of all abilities are challenged with positive learning experiences through equine assisted activities and therapies .

When there’s a big drop in temperature, one of our focuses is making sure that we watch out for the herd as they go from the cold of outside to the arena. This week, instead of riding, we’re focusing on ground work with an obstacle course in the arena. This allows our clients to work with the herd, and makes sure we’re not asking our horses to do anything that will cause an unreasonable shift in body temperature.

And our amazing volunteers are always ready to step in as human cones, when needed. ❤️

Hope you’re all staying safe and warm!

Today, and every day, we remember Martin Luther King Jr. with respect and admiration.

His tireless and pioneering fight for civil rights and justice led to the Civil Rights Act of 1964, which paved the way for Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act to be passed in 1977 - the first significant piece of legislation concerning people with disabilities in modern America.

This photo is from the Disability Independence March that took place in Manhattan in July of 1993. The March celebrated the anniversary of the passing of the Americans with Disabilities Act in 1990.

We are so grateful for the work and legacy of Martin Luther King Jr. - and all of the civil and disability rights activists who showed endless resilience and bravery in their efforts to make the future more just than the past.

Activists have continued to mobilize for access to the city’s built environment, created resources to live independent visible lives, and formulated a proud disability identity. In the process, they made a more inclusive city for all, and helped expand thinking about the diversity of human bodies ...

The beginning of the year always feels like a good time to think about our mission - enhancing health and wellness through equine-assisted services.

That includes the health and wellness of everyone who comes to the farm - clients, volunteers, family members, donors, sponsors, staff, and, of course, our amazing herd. We are here for each and every one of you - and we are so grateful for all the many ways that you are here for RTT.

Here's to creating more RTT magic in 2025. 🌟

With this polar vortex hitting the country, Merlin, Beloved and Ari wanted to take a moment to encourage people to stay warmly bundled and well stocked with snacks.

Abby isn't overly committed to the bundling, but she cosigns their snack message.
