It Takes Two Farm

It Takes Two Farm It Takes Two Farm started as a dream. It was also my desire to offer a “different” type of therapeutic activity. There are really three parts to the answer.
(39)

I envisioned that one day I could offer my horses, share my knowledge and pass on my experience to those interested in learning about horses. Making this dream a reality would not have been possible with out the support of my parents, children and friends. Over the years many clients have asked about how the farm was named and what the name means. First, I once had a horse named “It Takes Two”, Tw

oey, who was a great companion and an inspiration. There is a beautiful painting of him (with Arissa) that hangs in the classroom. Secondly, it takes two, both a horse and a rider working together as a team to form a successful partnership. Thirdly, it takes two to have a conversation, it takes two to have a successful relationship of any kind, it takes two people working together to accomplish goals and overcome obstacles. From a therapeutic perspective it is this intertwining of two beings that creates a unique opportunity for comfort, growth, peace and joy. All that is offered at It Takes Two Farm comes from my heart and it is my desire to provide a positive experience to all who enter. Crystal

It has been 2 weeks since we lost Bo (alpaca) and Blake(goat). They had both been here over 10 years! Crazy to think how many lives they have touched, how many walks they were lead on and the smiles they brought to so many. We miss them but have so many wonderful memories that will keep them with us forever.
This is just one example of how great they were with even the little kiddos❤️

Oh, Pete! One day, he came in from the paddock with a significant wound. There was no option for stitching, so we had to keep it clean and covered as it healed. He had to remain in a stall to prevent dirt from getting into the injury. Despite receiving plenty of hand-walking and attention, he wasn't thrilled about being confined. Now, it's fully healed, and you wouldn't even guess it looked like those pictures just a short while ago. The entire healing process took about eight weeks.

Another opportunity to help those affected by the last 2 hurricanes! Thank you MSSPA!!

Like many horse owners in Maine, the MSSPA is looking for ways to support relief efforts headed to the southeast part of the country, following the two devastating hurricanes. One effort that is taking shape will happen around our "Unpack the Shack" day, this *Saturday, October 26th from 10 am until 2 pm.* You can bring any items you wish to donate to the relief effort right to the MSSPA (Wednesday through this Friday) where they will be packed on to a trailer to head south - OR, you could shop at the Shack and (if you choose) donate those items to the relief effort. As of this writing, *ALL electric fencing supplies (this is urgent) are needed.* The greatest need is for fence posts, fence insulators, T posts, electric fencing, barbed wire 15.5G, insulators, tensioners, fence stretchers, gates, fence post drivers, and fence chargers. Also needed: electric tape or wire, and heavy-duty tarps (to cover hay). Additionally, we will be collecting: horse blankets, wraps, medical supplies for horses/cattle, shampoos, sponges, stacking buckets - all sizes, ground feeders, halters and leads – shipping halters are best, chicken feeders, gates (10 feet or less), poultry netting, and HD tension springs. No tack or human clothing needed.
Want to donate to this effort? You can bring things to the MSSPA from now until Friday from 8:30 am until 3:00 pm. Or, come to "Unpack the Shack" to shop for yourself, or shop and donate an item(s) to the relief effort. Details will follow as this effort gets pulled together. Stay tuned! And thank you for your help and support.

Here is just part of our dedicated team that is focused on maintaining the cleanliness of our farm, ensuring the health of our animals, and facilitating student learning. Reflecting on the past 30 years, I take pride in having developed this incredible program. I feel fortunate to have crossed paths with so many remarkable individuals and to have formed lasting bonds that feel like family.

Witnessing the power of community! Our remarkable community has joined forces to deliver 52 precious round bales to WNC. Special thanks to Dylan Owens of Hillcrest Farms in NY for spearheading this effort. Although this is just the beginning, as NC Ag Extension notes the hay shortage will continue until March 2025, we're inspired to make a difference. Let's strive for another shipment before 2024 concludes. Stay tuned for photos of the hay's arrival in WNC next week!

Are you a horse owner seeking to enhance your horse's fitness while also enjoying your time together? We are looking to collaborate with a horse owner interested in reducing monthly expenses while benefiting from access to indoor facilities and trails.

The ideal horse for our program would possess the following characteristics:

-Calm and quiet demeanor
-More "whoa" than "go"
-Non-spooky temperament
-Smooth gaits
-Respectful behavior on the ground
-Height ranging from 14hh to 15.2hh

In exchange for utilizing your horse in our program, we will provide daily care, including hay and grain. The owner will be responsible for any desired supplements, as well as farrier and veterinary care. If this arrangement sounds suitable for you and your horse, please do not hesitate to reach out!

I am so excited! The new shelter is coming together just like I hoped! The freezer will hold the grain for those using the shelter. And their halters and blankets will be hung in there as well. I will save up for a roll up garage door and in the mean time I have a mesh type “tarp” coming to hopefully keep the rain and snow out. You all know how I like to recycle when possible….the freezer was my grandparents❤️. Love to think they are smiling down and enjoying all the farm adventures.
