Alright! We have seeded in our crop of African violets for the year! Fingers crossed we will get some pretty blooms within 5 or 6 months. These beauties are an old time favorite house plant that have been a bit forgotten as the foliage tropicals started taking the spotlight. We are bringing them back! We ordered these seeds from Ron Nadeau, a seed producer that specializes in these plants. As you can see, the seeds are like dust and require careful planting and transplanting with tweezers. Once they pop up and get transplanted they will stay under grow lights until they're ready to find their new homes. These guys are pretty easy to take care of. They need bright, indirect light and bottom watering every so often when the leaves just start to droop. Hit them with the tiniest bit of fertilizer every month and they will reward you with blooms for years. They really aren't fussy. We have three varieties planted, "fantasy" is a speckled flower in mixed colors, "variegated" will have an assortment of colors of variagation in the leaves like the one pictured in the second photo, and the "little gems" are miniatures that fit in a small teacup. The first two pictures are some African violets I had grown in years past. The ones we have this year will be similar but will also have different flower color and leaf combinations due to genetic variations. No two will be exactly alike. We will keep you posted on their progress!
