A large female grey and white Pitbull mix was found late in the evening on 6/9 on Berry Hill Rd/Rt 10 in Smithfield VA 23430. She was critically injured and unfortunately succumbed to her injuries.

“Tongue out Tuesday”
This big boy was picked up as a stray and was sadly never reclaimed by his owner. We have named this gentle giant Gator and he needs a home. We don’t have any background history on him, but we hope his golden years will be bright. Gator is approximately 2-3 years old, up to date on vaccines and heartworm negative.
Gator does have cherry eye and is in need of surgery. We’d love for him to find a home where he is able to rest and recover post surgery.

Alfie, a 3 year old neutered male cat went missing on May 31st at the Oaks Mobile Est. on Woodview Ln. in Windsor. Alfie is around 10 pounds and is a dark gray long hair that looks similar to a maine c**n. We’ve been posting updates about some of our dogs that are in foster homes and how they have been building their foundations to be the bestest companions. Here’s the latest update on Beth. This is what Beth’s foster has to say:
Beth is extremely sweet and friendly. She is housetrained and crate trained. She loves to nap in the sunshine outside or wherever there is a fluffy blanket inside. She walks nicely on the leash, although she may pull if she sees a squirrel. She loves to be around people and other dogs and may whine a bit when her family members leave the house, but she calms down quickly and rests in her crate all day while her foster parents work. She is very quiet at night. She hasn't barked at all even when she was adjusting to hearing new noises in a new house.
She loves squeaky toys! Her play style may be a little overwhelming for some dogs but she also has good dog communication skills so if the other dog corrections her, she will adjust her behavior. We've had a few hound fosters over the past few years and Beth has adjusted to house life much faster than any other.

The various puppy dog eyes Butch displays when his foster parents leave for work is heartbreaking. However, the pure joy and excitement he shows when they return home is priceless.

**This dog has left foster to adopt! Nona is one of many animals that reside in our facility and are in need of a foster family for the holidays! Nona spent the day in the kennel office and she was such a love bug. She would often come over for head pets and then returned to her bed for wiggles and naps. She came in as a stray and is now available for adoption. We don’t know much about her past but we do know that she would be an amazing addition to anyone’s home. Nona has needed some adjustments in her diet as she seems to prefer wet food over dry. We did a dog test with her and a male beagle and they both did well. However, we will need to introduce her to your pup if you are interested in fostering or adopting. Please call 757-365-6318 to schedule an appointment. Wood chip & Angel would like to say hello to everyone. They’re a bonded pair, roughly 10 months old now. Facts about Guinea pigs. 1. They are active for 20 hours a day. They don’t need much beauty sleep, with being this beautiful. 2. Guinea pigs are not agile- they’re hiders, not climbers. 3. Guinea pigs must have their greens! ( They don’t produce vitamin C, so they rely on leafy greens daily. Feeding broccoli or Kale will keep your guinea pigs digestive system working appropriately and will also keep their teeth the correct length and shape. 4. Guinea pigs are explorers- and can see you from most angles. 5. They make 11 individual sounds- they are quite the chatterboxes. Guinea pigs have an amazing personality and would make a wonderful companion to your family. Adoption fee is $25.00 for both, cage not included. It’s “thirsty Thursday” and we caught this little kitty enjoying a nice drink of water. Carr is 2 months old and looking for his furever home.
Lombardi loves to run outside for enrichment. Due to the high temps, quick potty outside and back inside we have to go. So enrichment today was a frozen peanut butter filled kong. This boy loves people and is looking for his forever home. Come meet him!

“Five-O Friday” Jimmie White, Sheriff Clarke’s Executive Assistant, presented the “Conditional Offer” letter to those accepted into the “Paw-lice”Academy. Eck, our longest resident, graciously received the acceptance on behalf of ALL the animals at the shelter. Everyone is very excited that things are moving right along in the process for the “Paw-lice” academy recruits for the class of 2023. Investigations has scheduled background checks and fingerprinting or we should say “paw-printing .” 🐾 Standby for more adventures to be had showcasing our shelter animals that are available for adoption along with the brave men and women in uniform.
