Classes start one week from today! So here are just a few housekeeping reminders.

There will be some paperwork for you to complete the first night, but it will be done as part of class so there is no need to show up early.

PUPPY CLASS is from 6:00-7:00 pm.
*Doors will open at 5:50 for you to come in.
*Please remember to bring in a copy of any updated shot records since you signed up and bring them in throughout the six week class as your puppy receives their boosters.
*Do not bring your puppy to class if he/she is showing any signs of illness. We are dealing with immune systems that are not fully developed and in some cases, not even fully immunized because of their age. Please be considerate of all the attendees. Contact your instructor the day of class if you are in doubt if you should attend.
*Puppies will have accidents! To reduce the number of accidents inside, make sure you take them potty once you arrive at the building but before bringing them in. There are p**p bags at the p**p station. They can be disposed of at the station or in the dumpster close to the building.
*Proper equipment (collars and leashes) will be discussed the first night, but ALL puppies must be on an actual leash (retractable or flexi leads are not allowed).
*And remember there will be another class coming after yours, so be aware of your puppies as they leave. We don’t want them to startle or encounter a dog who is not a fan of puppies on their way out.

PET MANNERS CLASS is from 7:15-8:15 pm.
*There is a puppy class immediately before yours. Please give them space as they are leaving the building and heading to their vehicles. There should be no nose to nose greetings (or really any type of greetings between any dogs) between your dog and the puppies.
*Because of the class before yours, please do not enter the building until 7:10 or until you see the instructor in the doorway giving you the all clear signal.
*Stress and nervousness of the unknown often causes dogs to eliminate their bowels even if they just went before leaving home. Please give your dog the opportunity to use the bathroom in the grassy area before entering the building. There are p**p bags at the p**p station that can be thrown away there or in the dumpster.
*Proper equipment will be discussed the first night of class. All dogs must enter and leave the building on a regular leash, retractable and flexi leads are NOT allowed.
*If your dog has known triggers or is reactive to certain things (other dogs, men with beards, etc) please let the instructor know before class starts so that your dog can be positioned in the building appropriately.

We are looking forward to another round of successful training! Please message us if you have any questions or concerns before Monday.

We had three teams come out and do the Advanced Canine Good Citizen evaluation on Saturday. We also had three teams pass their CGCA!

Congratulations to Janice with Gabbie, Bobbi with Skye, and Sarah with Winry. Sarah and Winry stuck around a bit longer and also were evaluated for (and passed) their trick dog novice and intermediate titles.

Does your dog(s) get this excited about visitors? If so, there are several ways you can help prevent this situation.

1) crate your dog when guests arrive. Let them get over the initial excitement in a controlled space.

2) put your dog on a leash so you can help control/manage their excitement until is dies down

3) train your dog the acceptable behavior, but realize they still may be excited and not be perfect

There are many things that can be trained. There are many things we can do to help our dogs with their behaviors by managing the environment.

Need to know more about how to manage the environment and/or your dog? We still have a couple spots left in our Pet Manners class that starts next week!

Last call for anyone interested in the Advanced Canine Good Citizen Evaluation tomorrow, April 5 at 2:00 pm. After the SKC Farm Dog Certification in the morning (still room for additional entries for that as well), I will move to the building for a CGCA evaluation. Because this a “group” evaluation, we will begin promptly at 2:00. Several of the exercises are completed with everyone at the same time, the rest are done individually but still in the presence of the other dogs/handlers. You must have a CGC on file with AKC before you can attempt the CGCA with your dog. Cost is $10.

If you have not already told me you are coming, please comment or message me so I know how many to expect.

This is so very true for some of my boarding clients. I have had several tear up when they leave.

Although it is not home, I pride myself in keeping your dogs safe and well taken care of. I have an oversized chair in boarding that people ask what it is for. I refer to it as the snuggling chair, because some dogs just need some good old fashioned lap time and snuggles. And I am happy to oblige!

I love my happy, easy to board dogs, but I can typically handle those dogs who truly don’t like other people. I do have some boarders that would prefer to be left alone, and I can safely feed them and sometimes exercise them without ever having to come in contact with them. Not every dog is dog/people friendly and I have the knowledge and experience to take care of them.

We still have some boarding available for the summer months, but many dates are full. Again, only four pens, so I fill up quick.

Send me your dates as soon as you have them so I can get you on the calendar!

On Saturday, April 5, the Sedalia Kennel Club will be hosting their first Farm Dog Certification trial. It starts at 10:00 am and should be over by 1:00 pm depending on the entries. You can check out SKC’s page for more information or on how to sign up.

If there is enough interest, I will hold a CGCA later that day at my building. A couple people from my last class are ready for it, just don’t know if that day works! Please comment below if you are interested and able to attend the CGCA that day. Probably around 2:00 or 2:30. Cost would be $10.

Because the CGCA is done as a group exercise, I will need at least 3 firm commitments to hold it.

Information on the requirements for the CGCA can be found at

The AKC is the recognized and trusted expert in breed, health and training information for dogs.

Our next round of classes will begin on Monday, April 14. This round we will be offering an AKC STAR Puppy Class as well as a Basic Pet Manners. Both classes will be taught by Mattie Cobban and assisted some by Amy Gibbs, owner of Mutts, Manners and More.

The Puppy class will be limited to puppies 6 months and under at the start of class. Puppies will need to be current on vaccinations having received at least two rounds of vaccinations. If younger than 4 months, rabies is not required. Proof of vaccinations are required before submitting payment to hold your spot. If puppies acquire additional vaccinations during class, an updated shot record is asked to be brought in.

For more information about what will be covered in the puppy class, you can visit AKC.org. And starting January 2025, AKC STAR puppy is now considered a title upon completion of the class and passing the test!

The Pet Manners class will be for puppies/dogs six months and older and current on all vaccinations including rabies. Instruction will be given on the basic commands such as sit, down, stay, come, leave it, etc. as well as time to practice walking on leash, focusing on the handler, ignoring other dogs, etc. Until the instructor meets the dogs and handlers to assess their needs, a set curriculum will not be determined. This class is not suitable for dogs who are extremely reactive to other dogs and people.

For more information about either of these classes, please message us.

And as a reminder, anyone taking a second class with the same dog in the same calendar year will receive a $25 discount on the class.

***To sign up for either of these classes, please send a private message to Amy through the Mutts Manners and More page. In your message, please give the dogs name, age, breed and any concerns you have with your dog. You may also submit a copy of his/her shot record at that time. Our first classes of 2025 are officially over! We had to push back the start a week due to winter weather.

I love having people return for classes either with their older dog or a new one, and I certainly love having new clients as well. These two classes were a good mix of everything!

Our basic pet manners and our advanced pet manners both filled up quickly with 10 in each class. The basic class had 7 that were there pretty much each week. Our advanced class was almost at 100% with just an occasional absentee because of a conflict or illness. Both classes were fun to instruct!

I went to give a quick shout out to Mattie Cobban who assisted both classes. Having an extra set of eyes, hands, and opinions certainly helps. I have known Mattie for years and our training styles and beliefs are very similar, so it made these past six weeks all the better! Mattie will be teaching our next round of classes starting on April 14 (info will be posted sooner on how to sign up for those) with a little assistance from me when needed.

If you noticed all the graduates wearing matching bandanas for their photo, that would be because Poppy’s owner Hailey is an awesome person! She made and gave each dog in our Basic Pet Manners class one. Thank you Hailey!!!

Congratulations to all my dogs and handlers for a successful round of class. I also want to congratulate the four pairs who stuck around after class to have their CGC evaluations completed. Re*****on, Macy, Stormi, and Clio all passed their Canine Good Citizen test. I will be offering a CGC and CGCA evaluation sometime this spring, be watching for dates and info on how to sign up.

Just putting the feeler out there for our next round of classes. Now that I have an assistant to help me with dog training, classes will probably be offered more frequently. Mattie is wanting to do a true puppy class (6 months and younger) and I’m checking to see if there is enough interest. We have four owners who have already expressed an interest, so checking to see if there are a few more. We would like to have at least 6 for a puppy class.

Our next round of classes will probably start the end of March or early April (still looking at our calendars), will be on Monday evenings, and will have puppies from 6:00-7:00 pm and then a regular pet manners class from 7:15-8:15 pm. Classes will be six weeks in length for $125 for the session.

Please comment below if interested in one or the other. Once we have dates confirmed, I will make another post and then start taking sign ups.

Thanks and enjoy the beginning of muddy season!

I know it’s cold, but the snow isn’t suppose to start until overnight, so WE ARE HAVING CLASS!

Might as well get out one last time before we are stuck inside for a few days. And because it’s going to be bitter cold, we are going to introduce a few new things tonight to give you and your dog some new things to try while keeping warm!
