I love his comment “you have to prepare for dumb!”

Don’t be dumb! When in public, have control of your dog. He/she should never approach another dog!

And we are now full for both classes starting January 20!

If you did not get signed up, be watching for our next round of classes possibly starting as early as late February.

Here’s your annual reminder to get me your boarding dates as soon as possible! I have my 2025 calendar updated and ready. I already have a couple weeks in July and August fully booked!

Please remember, I only have four pens! Because of this, I tend to fill up during the busy season very quickly. Busy season tends to be March (spring breaks), summer months from end of May to mid August, and then Thanksgiving and Christmas. Last year, October was extremely busy and every weekend was booked. Sometimes I just never know.

I understand that spur of the moment trips, unexpected travel such as illness and funerals, and just those weird times you need a place for your dog(s) to stay may not let you contact me much in advance, but please don’t wait until the week before for a trip you have had planned for months! Even if you don’t know your exact dates, I can pencil you in for the possibilities and then change once it’s for sure. It’s much easier for me to erase days then it is to add.

Thanks for getting me those dates so we can get you pencilled in!

***edit

Our class 1 is full. Pending payment and one dog test to make sure the dog can handle a group environment, we are full. Thanks for the overwhelming quick response to sign up! Plans are in the works to offer another group class soon.

Class 2 still has some spots available.

Our next round of classes will begin Monday, January 20. This session is for 6 weeks and cost is $125 for the session. Payment is due in advance to secure your spot. Payment can be made via Venmo or PayPal. If you have attended a class previously or I know you personally, you can contact me about another way to pay (cash or check). Sorry, but if you are a first timer, I have to have payment in advanced.

We will meet each Monday, holidays included. Classes will be on January 20 and 27 and February 3, 10, 17, and 24. If inclement weather causes us to cancel, we will extend the classes into March. If you cannot attend a class due to a personal conflict, illness, etc. there is not a way to make up the class other than a few minutes before or after class to go over what you missed the week before.

To enroll for a class, please follow the directions...
1. Send me a direct message (comments on this post will not sign you up) stating which class you want to sign up for.
2. In the direct message, please state your dogs name, age, and breed/mix of breeds.
3. Send a picture/proof of rabies vaccination.
4. Wait for a response from me with a link on how to pay.

Once payment has been received, I will update the list of attendees for each class. Each class will be limited to 10 dogs.

Read carefully about each class and what will be offered. Please do not indicate a desire to sign up if your dog is not a good candidate for the class. We are working on the possibility of additional classes starting soon, so if you do not make it into one of these, there will be more chances coming up in the near future!

Class 1: Basic Pet Manners from 6:00-7:00 pm
This class is for a dog who needs the basics introduced or the basics refreshed. If your dog is overly reactive to other dogs/people (either in excitement or negatively) please visit with Amy before signing up to determine if this is the best environment for your dog to learn.

Commands that will be covered include basic commands such as sit, down, stand, stay, come and leave it. Topics that will also be discussed as needed will include crate training, nail trimming, place commands, leash skills, doing "nothing", door manners, greeting people, and taking your dog out in public.
Dogs must be at least 4 months old and have proof of rabies.

Class 2: Advanced Pet Manners/Performance Introduction 7:15-8:15 pm
This class is for the dogs who have been introduced to the basics and have a solid foundation. These dogs may still need some practice of basic skills in group environments or may be ready to take those skills to the next level. Skills that will be introduced will be determined after the first class session to see what everyone is wanting/needing. Topics that may be discussed include Canine Good Citizen evaluations, rally and obedience, confidence building, tricks, agility obstacles, therapy work, and scentwork.
Dogs must be at least 6 months old and have proof of rabies.

Class 3: Conformation Handling 8:30-9:15 pm
This will be a drop in class, pay each night you attend. There were several who have commented about wanting to work young dogs in preparation for upcoming conformation shows. Although later in the evening, this class will be for anyone wanting to work their dog in a show environment. Amy will act as the judge in going over each dog. She will also assist and give advice as much as you desire in properly handling/gaiting the dog on the go around and on down and backs. If no one shows up at the end of Class 2, then Amy will just have an early evening! No commitment, but an option if you choose. Drop in cost is $10 per dog.
Dogs/puppies must be at least 8 weeks of age and current on vaccinations for their age.

Again, please follow the directions for signing up for these classes.

Here are some example pictures of what will be taken this Saturday, December 14 from 10-12 at the building. Santa will be here as well for photos!

A donation of $10 per dog is requested. Proceeds are going to be given to the Windsor Dog Pound to help with their efforts of raising funds to purchase a new HVAC system.

All animals who can fit through the door and are manageable are welcome to come in. If weather cooperates, Santa can even step outside for a picture for those that can’t be brought inside. Please have all animals on leash or in a carrier (not just in your arms). Chairs will be set up around the main training room for you to wait your turn.

Sessions will take approximately 5-10 minutes, depending on how well the animals cooperate and how many are waiting. At the end of the event, photos will be sent to you digitally with full rights.

Please share and hope to see you here on Saturday!

Thankfully I’m a little better at taking pictures of dogs than technology! I made the flyer, but never can remember how to share it to fb…so I went old school and just took a picture of it on the computer screen. No matter what, it works!

Pet pictures with Santa are happening again! Paws and Claus will happen on Saturday December 14 from 10:00-12:00 in the morning. I’m working on the backdrop and will share pictures once I have it complete!

Almost always willing to take one for the team!

When I opened my dog business 7 years ago, I knew I wanted to offer boarding services. It is a huge need in this area. After some remodeling, my first dog was boarded in November of 2020.

Over the past four years, I have had 100’s of dogs come through the door of The Mutt Manor. Some have stayed with me numerous times and some just stayed once. Some have spent a single night and others over a month. Some I know I will board again and several have now crossed the rainbow bridge.

I have only had a few dogs that I did not enjoy boarding. Most all of them, even the very timid and reactive ones, typically come around to liking me by day 3 (if you have ever heard the rule of 3 in rescue, it applies to boarding as well). Most think I am their new best friend the minute they walk in the door! Some take a little bit longer. Some never do like me, but tolerate me. And yes, I have had a couple that never even tolerated me. Thankfully I am set up to handle pretty much any dog, even those that bark and lunge and communicate their hatred for me. I don’t take it personal, the stress of a new environment with other dogs and a total stranger, doesn’t always bring out the best in them.

The dog in the picture is one of those who thought I should stay away. On his last visit, he barked, growled, and lunged at me as I would approach his pen. For the first few days, I couldn’t get close to his pen without major reactivity. Thankfully he used the doggie door and could take himself outside to use the bathroom. Patience and experience helped me help him. After about 4 days, he let me interact with him outside. Before the end of his weeklong stay, I could approach his pen inside and pet on him. This stay, he growled the very first time I approached his pen after his owners left. After standing there for about 5 minutes and just letting him smell and relax, he started wagging his tail. We have been good since day 1!

This is our daily routine now! Lots of love and kisses!

I am a small boarding facility with only four pens. I will remain a small boarding facility with only four pens because it’s dogs like this who need me to be able to give them one on one time.
