Another great night in our performance class. Everyone is loving nosework, so we will do a bit of it each night. We also introduced some agility tonight. It was a hit as well!
The purpose of this class is to see what your dogs like to do! Like one person commented, “I really don’t want to spend hundreds of dollars on “X” class if my dog doesn’t enjoy it.” This is giving the participants a chance to see where their dogs interests are so they can make an informed decision on what to pursue.
Last night our “performance” class gave me a taste of how much fun we are going to have! This was them warming up before we introduced nosework. These handlers are dedicated and want to do great things! And their dogs are fabulous!!!
I am not enjoying the snow today, but the dogs are! These two love the snow and ran and played for about 3 minutes…then they ran to the door and said, “we’re done, let us in!”
During cold weather, the dogs are the ones who determine how much or how little exercise they get. Some go straight out, do their business, and want back in. Some, I have to coax back in! Some, look out the door and say no thank you and head back to their pen.
I’m very thankful that my set up allows the dogs to choose what they want to do. Of course, this weekend with dropping temps, doggie doors will be shut down and dogs will only go outside for short periods of time.
I love taking care of your dogs for you while you are away. Some days, I do enjoy it more than others (I’m not a fan of cold and snow).
The 2024 calendar is filling up! With only four pens and a couple crates that I can use for small dogs or for overflow for a few hours, I can not board as many dogs as is sometimes needed. I have several weeks already full and even have dates booked for next Christmas! Don’t wait to contact me.
Add on? It has been suggested and thought about. But, with the smaller numbers means more attention for your dogs. It also allows me to do things outside of the kennel. This is not a full time, support my family, type of job. This is a retirement gig. It allows me to continue to be a part of the dog world, help people out, and do other things as I want.
We do need more boarding facilities in this area. If you are thinking about it, I would love to visit with you. There are things that I love about my set up and a couple things I would change. It’s a pretty fun job with some great benefits!
If I don’t get to love on dogs in training, I at least get to with my boarders. I have only had a couple dogs in boarding that presented some management issues, but I am set up so that the dogs needs can be taken care of even if the interaction with me has to be minimal. Some dogs are not real social with strangers and add in the stress of being away from home, I totally get their behavior.
But when I get boarders like these two (actually my full house is full of easy boarders right now), it makes it enjoyable for me to up and out and interacting with dogs. After a few minutes of play, they were ready for supper. Opened the door back to the building and they go straight to their pen. They know the routine and it makes it so easy on me!
We are stocked up on candles again! This is an ongoing fundraiser for Pawsibilities are Endless. Candles are $10 each.
Mutt was practicing his agility today. As you can see, I don’t think we will be competing anytime soon!!!
Thank you to everyone who has made my first summer of boarding a HUGE success. Today is the first day since basically May 5th that we are empty. Had one weekday in June where we were empty. There were many times we were booked to capacity with 6-7 dogs in at once. No we are not a very big boarding facility, and I’m proud of that. We can give dogs individual attention if needed. We can keep the “commotion” down and it gives dogs plenty of time during the day to sleep and chill (like they do at home). The larger the facility, the more commotion that happens and some dogs never get their down time that is needed. Could I expand and stay just as busy? Probably, but that’s not best for me or the dogs!
We have a few days off before our next boarders come in the end of the week. It will be nice to sleep in tomorrow morning! It will also be nice to have the place completely empty so we can do a complete building spray down. We disinfect each pen between boarders, but being able to spray down the entire building at once is a nice way to do it.
We already have pens reserved for September through December. Nothing is completely booked, but with only four pens…we could book up quickly. If you know your dates for fall travel, contact me to reserve your pens as soon as you can.
As soon as I purchase a 2022 calendar (probably this week), I will begin taking reservations for January and beyond. To make a reservation for 2022 will require a $25 non refundable deposit. Our prices are also going to change slightly in 2022. Prices and policies will be available on our website soon.
Thanks again for making this adventure of mine such a successful and positive one!
