Dear clients and followers, I just want to remind you to keep your dogs current on their vaccinations. Do not let their rabies vaccination be one day, one month or even a year expired.
Last Thursday two of my dogs found a bat in the backyard and were playing with it. One of my dogs picked it up in his mouth and was playing keep away with me. I noticed during this time that he acted as if he got bitten several times. I eventually got him to release the bat. I trapped it, called my veterinarian and out of utmost concern Animal control was called in to collect the bat and test it
Yesterday I got a call from the county health department that it was rabid! Had my dogs not been current on their rabies vaccinations and had they not gotten a booster the day of the incident they would be put to sleep. As it is now, the dogs are in a 45-day quarantine until August 10th. So no doggie daycare, no obedience but I can walk them. Please be vigilant on your dog's vaccinations. I could not have seen this coming in a million years and I am so thankful that both my dogs are here with me and healthy.
