Absolutely π―.
When you are structured, consistent, persistent in your training, it translates to any and all situations over time.
If your dog can Sit at home, but can't hold a Sit in public, there are steps in your training have been overlooked. Your dog has been Taught to Sit, but has not been fully trained to Sit in any and all situations.
In my Basics program, we break down the learning process so you're not forever stuck in the fanny-pack-of-dog-treats Teaching phase. We Teach, then we Condition, and finally we Proof. This process, paired with consistent and persistent handling techniques, results in truly reliable training.
Here, we have Augie and his owner in a Proofing exercise at our local Tractor Supply. The point is not to be perfect; it's to identify what both Augie and his owner are doing well and what they are still struggling with. We take home a bullet list from our Proofing experience and prioritize these struggles in structured Conditioning exercises until the issue is fully addressed. Then it's back to the Proofing board.
Training is always. The world can throw new things at you and your dog on a whim. But if you understand the full scope of the training process, you can conquer those new challenges with a little work, instead of living a life of constant management and avoidance of those things you and your dog cannot currently handle.
My Basics program is a comprehensive, weekly session program designed to work you and your pup through these stages in a way that empowers you as your dog's owner to lead them through anything in this world.
