Kennel lists 11/23/25 DOGS and CATS available‼️

🙏PLEASE SHARE! 🙏
We have a total of 25 dogs and 22 cats NEEDING HOMES! ( Or RESCUES or FOSTER HOMES)

Dogs:
8 in foster homes
11 in boarding
6 at the shelter —- AC likes to have 3-4 empty kennels so we need to work fast to get some dogs out ‼️

Cats:
22 cats in the Bertie County Humane Society cat barn
(They have heat but need homes and do not deserve to be living in a shelter!)

Boarding is costing us over $8,000 a month‼️
So we obviously cannot continue to afford boarding
………….BUT THE DOGS IN BOARDING ARE ALL VERY ADOPTABLE DOGS AND THEY
ALL DESERVE WONDERFUL HOMES! Please help!

⛔️ if you are not a rescue and therefore cannot pull a dog… If you cannot adopt a dog…

If you could find it in your heart to FOSTER a dog, that’s the only way we will be able to continue to save them.
We have too many dogs that need medical care, (to include heartworm treatments), so it is not fair to keep them in boarding or at the shelter and use the money for boarding instead of the medical that’s needed. We are in desperate need of fosters, rescues, or adoptions and the FUNDS needed for medical care and boarding.

➖If you currently have any dogs we suggest to bring them to the shelter to meet the dog you are interested in and bring your family.
➖NO DOGS ARE ADOPTED TO LIVE OUTSIDE! They must be adopted to become INSIDE beloved family members.
➖for some dogs we require a fenced yard (this depends on the dog) we can discuss it.

🙏 Jazzie needs a new foster home or RESCUE PLEASE 🙏 NEED IMMEDIATELY 🚨

Our little Jazzie spent almost a year in boarding waiting for a home.

In the boarding staff's daily reports, one word was used to describe her almost everyday: SWEET!

Jazzie's current fosters have become unable to care for her like she needs.
💔 Now she is heading to Boarding if we cannot find a foster home and it’s breaking our hearts…. We thought she was finally going to be able to be in a foster/home.

Jazzie's perfect home would be a quiet one. Dogs who have spent a long time in boarding are simply not used to all the sights and sounds we live with today.
Televisions, phones, kids with video games, people talking constantly... it's sensory overload for a dog like Jazzie!

She also needs a fenced-in yard.
At boarding, she was used to having the play yard to run around in and sniff and just be a dog 🐕

💔 This little girl is heartworm positive, which makes it crucial she is in a home so she we can get provide her with heartworm treatments.

(Dogs are moved to Boarding when extreme temperatures are dangerous for them at the outdoor shelter - also occasionally when shelter full)

(➖ separating out the vet bills for the cats and dogs is to show everyone that the majority of the money that is raised is usually for the dogs (we post specific dogs needing donations so those funds go directly where the donator intended and there’s never been a posting to raise money for a specific cat or needs for cats the GENERAL FUND money or money raised above what requested for the dogs has always paid for the cats)

We have 11 Heartworm positive dogs 💔
We have 12 dogs needing spays/neuters ✂️
We have 9 dogs that have not been to the vet 🏥

Where do our funds come from?
P R I V A T E D O N A T I O N S
(No grants and very very small amount of county funds)

😩We only receive $2,000 a YEAR from the county for the animals that come into the county owned Bertie County Animal Shelter 😩. These animals are Bertie County animals and that shelter needs supplies for many state requirements.
We pay for EVERYTHING…. All state required vaccines, ALL supplies for the shelter (state required), all cat and dog food, all medical for every animal that enters the OUTDOOR shelter. That $2,000 doesn’t come close to what is required by the state.
We keep begging the county for money and don’t even get a response. Letters and meetings etc. still no response.
The money the county gives ($2000 a year) would not even cover state required needs to have a shelter, doesn’t even cover humane euthanasia for all the animals - which is what would happen if BCHS was not involved. The money doesn’t cover state required rabies vaccines. We have BCHS members that are certified vaccinators to come to the shelter to get the rabies vaccines and we purchase them …. If the county took all the animals to the vet for rabies vaccines then an exam fee and rabies vaccine would have to be charged to them, so it would cost them even more.

Meet Maisie, everyone! She's a marvelous girl! 💓
Maisie is approximately 2-3 years old and weighs 50-60 pounds.
Maisie loves to play and loves people!!!

When she is out of her kennel, Maisie doesn't show much interest in the other dogs.

Maisie went on a walk with one of our volunteers, and she did very well on the leash!

The volunteers described her as very sweet and playful.

With Maisie, you will have love that is always loyal!
Look no further. You have found the perfect love in Maisie!

Sweet Maisie has not been to the vet yet, so we don't know her heartworm status.
😫 unfortunately, we don't have the funds for vetting or to treat our dogs who are heartworm positive 😕

❄️ Also, please remember that winter is coming and the dogs at the shelter will suffer 😢

Our wonderful friends at Muddy Paws Bed and Biscuit have 10 of our dogs there in boarding.

They are treated so good there. They are very loved!
We appreciate them so much
