BCHS (501) consists of a very small group of volunteers taking care of the abandoned animals of Bertie county! Volunteers & donations allow us to maintain our own NO-KILL shelter for cats. We also work with Bertie County Animal Control and the dogs at their canine (KILL) Shelter. If you see a dog that interests you -- PLEASE CALL OR POST IMMEDIATELY. Our county shelter is very small (10 runs) and

we can influence a dog's short-term survival if there is even a CHANCE of adoption or rescue! Our Animal Control Officer is very helpful when he can be. MAILING ADDRESS:

He is back home safe!!

Meet Archie, everyone!
➖️This precious boy is young and still acts like a puppy. We think he is around one year old.
➖️Archie looks bigger in pictures. He only weighs about 35 pounds. He is underweight, of course. 😫
➖️We don't know if he was on his own a long time or kept outside. The poor boy came in very thin and looking pretty rough.
😭 He had lots of cuts and nicks on his face and was missing hair in places.
He is definitely getting better!

➖️Through it all, Archie hasn’t shown any aggression towards the other dogs through his kennel. He likes to give Chanel kisses through the fencing. He also did well saying HI to Checkers at the fence.
Archie has not been to the vet, and we do not know his heartworm status.
➖️Archie has not been neutered.

Please show Archie there are some kind people in the world. ❤️

Animal control always needs two empty kennels so we need AT LEAST FOUR ADULT

🚨🚨FOUR (4) NEW INTAKES 9/8/25 😩😩

a YOUNG adult male ( he’s so very sweet. Please help him)
……. he came in with three puppies and we are assuming he may be the father

there are two female puppies, and one male
( Puppies seem to be only perhaps 9 weeks to 12 weeks old)
⛔️➖they really need to go to the vet! they are underweight and need to continue being treated for worms which we will start

USUALLY puppies that come into the shelter that need TLC and need to go to a vet right away we only let Rescues pull them, which we do prefer……
……. however, rescues are so full everywhere so we will consider adopting the puppies out as “approved foster to adopt” if people are willing to pay for the puppy to go to the vet and proof of vetting provided to us ( our contract states Puppies must be sterilized at the age of six months and proof provided to us) we will waive the adoption fee if someone that wants to adopt a puppy is willing to pay for their medical needs at the vet office!

💲WE HAVE BEEN OFFERED A MATCH CHALLENGE up to $2,500‼️‼️‼️‼️

Please please donate, even a small amount helps!!

‼️We posted this match challenge on August 24 and we have only received $1200 in donations so far…..
We still need $1300 to reach the goal‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️. The donor was nice enough to extend the challenge one more week‼️

🚨WE HAVE 30 DOGS and 26 CATS to provide for!! 🚨🚨🚨

Our shelter is full ( 9 dogs) … Only one Kennel open and animal control always wants 2 Kennels open‼️
We have 8 dogs in foster homes
We have 13 dogs in boarding (VERY expensive)
We have 26 cats in the BCHS cat barn

All the funds we raise up to $2500 will be matched !
That means whatever amount you donate up to $2500 will be doubled !
….. if we can raise these funds that will take a big chunk out of our monthly bills!!

It is that time again 😩 we desperately need to raise funds so that we can pay for medical/vetting/boarding bills for the CATS and DOGS!

FOSTERING an animal would really help!
These animals do not belong in kennels. They belong in homes.
Also, if you foster a dog, it saves us an abundance of money! It’s much cheaper for us to cover all of a dog’s medical, food, and supplies than it is to pay for Boarding every day.
The cats would love to be in a home where they can get attention every day! Getting to know these animals helps us match them up with the right home.

September 6, 2025

Dog Adoption fee: $125 All animals are sterilized before adoption. Most of the time, if we have the funds and the time, they are also UTD on all core vaccines and other vetting)
**if an animal is too young to sterilize an agreement is signed that of age agreed upon the animal will be sterilized (at your expense unless discussed) and proof thereof provided to us. THIS IS STRICTLY ENFORCED or the animal will be returned back to us!

➖If you currently have any dogs we suggest to bring them to the shelter to meet the dog you are interested in and bring your family.
➖NO DOGS ARE ADOPTED TO LIVE OUTSIDE! They must be adopted to become INSIDE beloved family members.
➖for some dogs we require a fenced yard (this depends on the dog) we can discuss it.

🎤We have been bursting with anticipation to reveal this news to everyone! 🎼🎶🎵

A local band has created an unbelievably beautiful song specifically for Bertie County Humane Society. The lyrics embody the spirit of the mission of our small organization.
We are hoping that their gift of music will help bring awareness and support to the homeless animals that we advocate for every day.

📣📢The song has now been published on over 100 different platforms. Any profits from the song being sold will benefit Bertie County Humane Society. 100% of the funds go towards the animals! We are a small volunteer ONLY organization that provides all the supplies needed for the county owned outdoor rural shelter, the food for the animals, and all of their medical care.
