🚨12/23/24 Update: We have decided that at this time it is best that the brothers go to separate homes. Chance has developed the urge to jump and it is costing Shadow his opportunity of a good home. Chance will remain on hold for adoption at this time to try and help correct that behavior.
Long read, but their story needs to be heard to help find a home. They have lived in our shelter for 346 days now! Our shelter is not climate controlled & we do our best to keep them comfortable. Many think it’s just an old shed with nothing inside. But there are currently 2 brothers inside who were abused, abandoned, & left with no food or shelter during last winter. They were young pups, with ribs showing, fleas, worms, and scared of everything, including toys. They didn’t start playing with toy’s until 3 months after being here. They now love to play with toys and Chance enjoys a good game of fetch! They were both extremely terrified of collars & leashes. Chance would run into his kennel & not move when we picked one up or placed one on his brother Shadow. While Shadow would lay down and shake with fear when he saw them. Shadow warmed up to them first and finally started walking on a leash about 5 months later. Once we were able to get Shadow to walk on a leash, Chance gave in a little more at a time. He does not like when his little brother is out of sight, which helped him to learn to walk on a leash. It took months of working with them to get where they are now. They now love to see us grab their stuff knowing it’s time to go for a walk and explore outside of the gloomy kennels. They both love to give hugs, play with toys, be brushed, fetch, kids, and of course each other! They also think they are lap dogs! Shadow loves to be by your side while Chance loves to play with the water hose. They have done okay with other dogs if given time to warm up to them. They also want to be sure we who care for them are safe from harm as well as each other. These boys have gone from scared hungry babies to loving, playful, sweet & healthy boys! They have watched 30 dogs go to a home while they are still waiting. They are bonded brothers with everything they have gone through. We hope to keep them together but understand that may not be possible. Please help us spread their story to help find them the home they deserve!
