Tazman began 2026 with the best fresh start: an adopter welcomed him home 🥳

After arriving at WAHS from a difficult situation, Tazman’s journey included both physical and emotional healing. He remained a loving sweetheart throughout his medical recovery, day by day rediscovering what it means to be a happy, healthy, carefree dog.

When a potential adopter came along, it didn’t take much time for the two to connect. The household was carefully prepared for Tazman’s arrival, and he got to go home in the new year! Since then Taz and his adopter have been settling into the rhythm of a new life together.

This boy deserves nothing but the best, which is why we’re so thankful that Tazman’s adopter gave him a chance and shows him all the love every day ❤️Congratulations to both Taz and his human on this exciting new journey!

Adoption Update - Bonk and Zap! 🥹

Message from their adopter:

“Hi there! I am just writing to give an update on Bonk and Zap, along with some photos.

As you guys shared, Bonk is very food motivated. He tells me when it’s time to eat and that happens at 3:45 in the morning, daily. He plays with my chargers which are right by my head. If I leave anything on the nightstand, he will knock whatever it is off. He is told, daily, he’s lucky he’s so darn cute.

Zap zoomies all over the place until he wears himself out. Bonk is most definitely Zap’s best friend. Zap is quite curious about most things, and isn’t easily scared. I haven’t been able to touch Zap yet. I’m still hopeful this will happen someday. He did, however, curl up next to me the other night as I was writing in my journal. A moment I will not be forgetting.

They love their food; they love playing with each other. They love running across our home and chasing each other. They love their scratch board and they love their velvet blanket. They love looking out the windows at the birds. They love basking in the sunshine. More recently I discovered, they love ornaments and beads on a Christmas tree.

All in all, they are very loved and I’m glad they are a part of my little life.” 🫶

Foster Feature - Agatha! 🐈‍⬛

Nothing quite compares to cozy cuddles with a senior cat who truly needs you, and shows her appreciation for the simple things every day.

Senior sweetheart Agatha found herself in the care of WAHS at 12 years old. We don’t know what her past life looked like – but what we DO know is that she deserves the world 🥹

A WAHS volunteer welcomed Agatha home in temporary foster care where she awaits an adopter. Agatha’s favorite activities include naps, naps, and more naps, taking up the occasional window-watching shift!

While there may not be as many years to spend together, senior adopters often attest that so much love, priceless moments, and lessons are found with older pets. We know a person’s out there for Agatha, someone who can show her the meaning of safety, family, and unconditional love when she needs it most.

Review Agatha’s history, bio, and medical notes on our website (in comments), and send in an app if you have Agatha’s purrfect home setup!

Do you have room for a soul companion? Someone who deeply appreciates tranquil time together, and returns just as much love as she receives? Then you have to meet Mo!

Mo is a 6 year old sweetheart, right in the prime of her adulthood. Because Mo isn’t a fan of fellow felines she’ll need to be your one and only cat, but that’s okay because she has all the qualities of an ideal best friend: she’s attentive, loyal, playful, and affectionate!

Help Mo usher in her sixth year with somewhere to call home again. Mo’s profile, adoption process details, and application link are all ready for you on winonahumane.org/adopt. You won’t regret some quality Mo time 🧡

Siblings who politely share Churu together, stay together 😸

While Chappell and Harvey patiently wait to find a family able to adopt them as a bonded pair, they get all the special treatment they deserve. After some playtime and a mini holiday photoshoot, they thoroughly enjoyed their favorite treat side by side!

Chappell and Harvey just passed the 6 month mark since arriving at WAHS. If you (or someone you know) are looking for a truly lovely pair of cat friends, you can change their whole world. Apply to meet them on winonahumane.org/adopt!

Happy New Year’s Eve to all 🎉 As we reflect on the past year and prepare for the next, it’s the perfect opportunity to thank you - animal shelter supporters - for being our partners in changing pets’ lives.

Being a community-funded shelter, generous donors made it possible for WAHS staff and volunteers to provide 174 cats and dogs with stable, fresh starts in 2025, transforming both the animals’ worlds and their new families who get to adore them.

Despite the ups and downs, reminiscing on each year serves as a reminder of what’s possible when a large group of people join forces towards a common goal – and how important it is to keep the mission going.

Whether you’re an adopter, volunteer, donor, staff member, rescue partner, online supporter, animal advocate, or anywhere in between, thank you for venturing together with WAHS through 2025. See you in 2026 where more possibilities, animal welfare progress, and changed lives await! 🐈‍⬛🐶
