This is Wylie the very first morning he woke up in his new home 🏡
Can you see the anxiety in his face? His face is hard looking, his ears are back, he’s panting and he’s standing in a c shape. He looks uncomfortable 😣 because he was.
He was in a new home, with a new person, a cat and another dog. How could he not have anxiety 😟
Plus he flew all the way from California to Maine to get to his furever home 🏡 the traveling alone was a lot of stress, never mind the new environment.
For two weeks he would jump and nip at me not because he was aggressive but due to his anxiety😥 I had to ignore him a lot, turn my back, somedays it just felt like we were dancing 🤣
To this day when he is over the top stressed out, if he jumps and nips, I know he has had enough.
Wylie taught me the importance of decompression time when bringing in a new pack member. He also taught me a thing or two about body language.
So, if you’ve recently just brought in a new pack member, pay attention to the signs they are giving you, give them their own space, and have a whole lot of patience, compassion and an open mind and heart ❤️
