We wanted to take the time to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

We also wanted to share this special girls story. Roo came from a hoarding situation. She came in with four other dogs, all with parvo. We lost one to parvo. Roo was the second of the sickest. She was touch and go for many days. When she was finally well enough to be released, she went straight to her foster home and now her forever home!

Today and every day, we are ever so thankful for our foster families. Roo’s family is one of our newest foster families. This little girl stole the hearts of her new family. From where she came from to where she is now… every day is Christmas for her!

If you had one Christmas wish, what would it be? If you were Destiny, do you know what that one Christmas Wish would be? A TRUE forever home! Destiny’s story is completely sad, but we are really trying to find her the perfect forever home as she goes into her golden years!

Destiny was dropped off at boarding two months shy of TEN years ago!!! Yes, you read that right! Can you imagine being rescued from a neglected situation, thinking you are going to a temporary safe place, then a forever home, only for it to be your home for TEN years? While, she has been taken care of and she is truly loved, by kennel staff, what IF she had a true home for Christmas? Her OWN stocking, by the fire? Her own piece of ham at Christmas dinner? Her OWN family.

Destiny is current on vaccines, heartworm negative, spayed. She can be dog selective but we would want to make sure if there is another dog in the home that she would be OK! She has mellowed out in her golden years! A fenced yard is ideal for her but not required. Destiny is around 11 or 12 years old now. Our guess is a lab mix.

If you are interested, please PM us. Destiny deserves the world, but she really only wishes for a forever home.

Many remember and have asked about our bottlefed boxer puppies and “if” they survived. Yes! All survived! Our girls were adopted quickly! They both had approved apps when they were 3 weeks old. Their families had a long 5 weeks to prepare for their arrivals but their fabulous foster mom opened her home and one local family was able to visit the girl they named “Harlow”, regularly. When the foster mom would travel to the beach, she would stop and let “Nova’s” family see her. The boys, we transferred to our partner in Greensboro, Animal Rescue and Foster Program, as they take mostly puppies and we have worked with them for years! I believe the boys are now pending adoption.
The girls are loving life! They both have big brothers and big sisters to show them the ropes!

This is WHY we continue to do what we do! While their mom lost her life, she took excellent care of them, while she was here on this earth. Mama, your babies are all safe, just like you would have wanted. They are thriving! They have wonderful families! They are safe, warm
and most of all they ARE LOVED! This would have been Mama’s Christmas miracle! 💔

We want to wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving 🦃! We, here at ACF, have so much to be thankful for, this year. We would like to share Dolly’s story with you!

Dolly was pulled from a high kill shelter in NC. Shelter staff deemed her a flight risk and she was due for euthanasia. Dolly had been dealt a hard truth that many dogs and cats face every day, in shelters all over the US. Dolly wasn’t a bad dog. Dolly and her owner were crossing a road, when her owner was hit and killed (hit and run). Dolly stayed with her owner for two days until someone called AC, not knowing there was the body of her owner, in the ditch, lying next to her. The body was removed and Dolly was taken to AC by a catch pole. 😢 She was scared! She was shutting down hard. Her whole world had been killed just a few days prior and now she was in an overcrowded shelter on the euthanasia list because she was a scared “flight risk”.

I (Beth) went by the shelter to meet Dolly, knowing her story and knowing she needed a full miracle. Was I prepared for what I was getting into? Somewhat. Was I prepared when someone walked by with her on her way to being euthanized? No! I looked in her eyes and saw pure sadness. No assessment needed. The shelter staff was floored when I said “load her up”. They gave every reason they could for me not to pull her that day. Dolly gave me every reason to save her that day. At our board meeting, that night, I shared the news, gently. 😊

Dolly was with us almost 3 years. In that time, she went to a home that didn’t work out and was returned. When she was returned, we had no foster home for her. Panic mode set in and we decided to board her for a few days at Legacy Boarding Kennel. Dolly thrived in boarding! She LOVED it! She came to love everyone there, especially Tyler and Emily! We appreciate our partnership with Legacy Boarding Kennel, where Dolly lived over a year! She was a strong, independent gal who was dog selective. She wanted to be with people and no cats!

In August, one of our board members, Venessa Link started sharing Dolly’s story with other rescues. She sent email after email to every rescue, sanctuary, experienced law enforcement municipalities, that Google had listed. Then, we got the true miracle! A rescue in Maine, very fluent in the breed, dog trainer and sanctuary, said YES! Dolly was getting a true chance at a true forever home again, just like what we know her deceased owner would’ve wanted her to have. One of our transport partners, David Parkins transported Dolly all the way to Maine! He shared his beef tips with her on the way! They became fast friends! ❤️

Today, Dolly, now Lily is thriving! She has a true forever home! She loves big! Her new parents love her, she loves them more. We are forever thankful and grateful for Shannon, who said YES! We have met so many amazing people along Dolly’s journey. This girl got her chance! We love you Dolly! We are so blessed to know that you are truly safe and loved now!

A few pictures to share of Dolly!

Winston Salem NC: PLEASE Share!!!!

Meet Peggy Sue! Peggy Sue is an ACF alumni who was dumped at a kill shelter, in a crate, in the rain. When she was adopted, before, for whatever reason, she did not have a signed contract. Since 2021 this has been mandatory. Thankful that she had a chip and was still registered to ACF. She has been in several homes since adoption. This is unacceptable on many levels, but at this point, it’s null and void. Moving forward, we need to find Peggy Sue the perfect forever home.
Peggy Sue is spayed, current on all vaccines, heartworm negative and on monthly preventative.
Peggy Sue would be best as the only dog. Her manners are impeccable. Her foster reports that she is a great dog! She is easy going, not a barker and obeys all commands. She is housetrained.

Peggy Sue’s adoption fee is waived. We want her to have the perfect forever home to live out her life. She is 6 years old now. Weighs about 55 #.

While her fee is waived, we still require an application:

We, along with Davidson County Animal Alliance, rescued 18 of these dogs. (See below for charges against the animal abusers). We had 11 come in, back in July and 4 in October. Our last 4 fought parvo and we lost 1. The one we called Rainbow.
We still have 4 looking for their forever homes! They all are right at a year old. All females. All sweet as sugar! If interested in adopting one of these southern beauties, please go to our website below:
