"Holy hot, Batman! Mom said I can't go in and out today so let's do a Aroodoption!
Meet Russ. Mom met him last Thursday at the Paw Crawl and said he's super sweet. Let's find him his own family."
-C**t ❤

This shy guy has been in our care since February and is ready to find his forever home.
If you're looking for a low-maintenance furry friend who thrives on routine, look no further than Russ! This sweet, low-energy pup is a bit high-strung but incredibly easy to care for. He thrives most in a calm, quiet environment.
Here are a few facts about him:
⭐️ Russ thrives on routine and predictability. He responds well to a set schedule, which helps him feel secure.
⭐️ He’s crate and house-trained, making him an excellent indoor companion.
⭐️ While he’s easy to handle on a leash, he’s more of a stroller than a perfect walker.
⭐️ He’s remarkably quiet and doesn’t bark.
⭐️ Russ loves Kongs and hard chews, which keep him happily occupied.
⭐️ Russ is completely submissive and is generally content to mind his business around other dogs. He has been known to interact with small, lower-energy dogs occasionally. He will need ample time to come out of his shell!
What would be an ideal home environment for Russ?
🏠 A patient owner who understands his shy nature and is willing to provide the stability and routine he craves.
🏠 A quieter household without small children, where he can feel safe and gradually come out of his shell.
🏠 A potential dog sibling who is calm and confident, helping Russ feel more secure and comfortable.
Please share this post to help us find Russ a wonderful forever home! For more on how you can adopt Russ, visit forsythhumane.org/adopt or email [email protected]

Meet PetHub.
This is the most advanced name tag and it has a unique function. The QR code on it contains all the information you would want a finder to have to bring your dog home. This is a free service that comes with the tag. BUT for $30 a year, if that code is scanned you will get a notification on your phone that not only was it scanned but a GPS location of where it was scanned.
Yep. We have one on the way. No we aren't making commission on them. We just want your dog to be safe!

"Hey everyone, C**t here. Mom wanted me to talk with all of you real quick about this weekend. There are so many events happening you should have no problem finding something to do BUT leave your pups at home. It is going to be way to hot for them to be outside for so many reasons. A few? Heat exhaustion/stroke and burned toe beans. Did you shave them for the summer? Not the best idea and you have now opened them up to exhaustion/stroke, sun burn and skin cancer. Their coats protects them from the elements. Never take it away by shaving them. Take it from me. Don't be selfish. Leave them home in the AC where they will be cool, safe and comfortable."

"Hey everyone. C**t here. You know, I am a regular visitor at Forsyth Humane Society with my mom. Sometimes I help out in class and sometimes she takes me just to hang out. I love it there but I am always a little sad for the animals who don't have a forever home like I do. I asked mom if I could help out and she said yes, duh! So, here's my plan. Aroodotions posts. Get it? Aroo (my favorite noise to make) and adoptions (what I am hoping to help with). I like it! Let's do it!!

AROODOPTIONS!!
First up, my friend Ollie. Mom has posted him before but he's still looking. He is a senior guy but he's been looking for his forever family since November 20, 2023. Almost 7 months, friends. He is in a foster home being loved and cared for but he needs to find a family to grow even older with. His adoption fee is sponsored also. My mom says he likes to curl up in her lap and just chill. He is a distinguished gentleman!!
Check out FHS website for more info about Ollie. forsythumane.org

Meet our Trainer: Geralyn Kelly
Training dogs is not a second job or a hobby for me. It is my full-time profession, my life and my love. More than 90% of my customers are referred to me by professionals in the veterinary/pet care field, local rescue organizations or come to me by word-of-mouth referrals from satisfied customers. With over 20 years of experience, when you hire Elite Canine, you can rest assured that you are working with a competent, experienced professional. More than just dog training, together with my clients, we are paving the way toward a better life for all dogs and their families.

Training history
Geralyn has been working with dogs since 2002. She began in a daycare/kennel environment where she gained valuable firsthand knowledge about canine behavior. In 2004, after two years at the daycare/kennel Geralyn began her training career and has never looked back! She began training at a large corporate pet store chain where she learned everything from Ethology, the scientific study of animal behavior, to Learning Theory, understanding how dogs learn. The core of Geralyn’s belief is that to be a great dog trainer, you must know everything about them from their origins, background, and recent changes in breeds and how their minds work. To expand her education she has attended seminars, workshops, conferences and have met some of the greats like Ian Dunbar, Sophia Yin, Victoria Stillwell and Suzanne Hetts. After three years in the corporate world, Geralyn left the pet store chain to pursue a career with a private kennel. Here, she developed the entire training program for this kennel from the ground up where she trained Obedience, Agility and Flyball! In 2008 Geralyn relocated to Winston-Salem and spent four more years working for a corporate pet store chain as Store Trainer and Area Trainer where she not only held many classes in store, she trained numerous other trainers who have gone on to have successful training careers. During this assignment she trained dogs in Obedience and Rally.
In December of 2012, Geralyn decided she would like to be able to reach more animals and work more closely with their human handlers and rescue groups and decided to open her own training center, Elite Canine!
Community Involvement
Since opening her own training center, Geralyn has worked tirelessly to connect with rescue groups to offer her services to their foster’s and adoptees. In the spring of 2013, Elite Canine sponsored the “Paws for Unity” event which raised money for the Stokes County Animal Shelter to help fund their new facility. In the fall of 2013, Elite Canine co-hosted Winston Salem’s 1st Responsible Dog Owner Day and Canine Challenge where dogs participated in sporting events to raise money for local charities. Geralyn also worked on Unchained Forsyth building team which builds fences for dogs who are permanently chained at their homes. In February 2014, Elite Canine co-funded a fence for Beba a pit bull who was chained to a tree in her back yard. Beba had just given birth to puppies but now runs free in her very own fence! Also in February of 2014, Elite Canine teamed up again to raise money to fund additional bullet proof vests for the Forsyth Sheriff’s Department, called Kevlar for K9s. This fundraiser was a direct result of the loss of Davie County’s K9, Gorky, who was killed in the line of duty. This fundraiser provided enough money to purchase three additional bullet proof Kevlar vests (plus a super shopping spree) for the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Department. In September of 2014 Elite Canine hosted Winston-Salem’s 2nd Annual Canine Challenge where over 700 people attended and fun was had by all. Geralyn joined Unchain Winston in 2014 and was the Top Dog Sponsor for Fuzzy’s fence on February 15, 2015. EC sponsored a 3rd fence for Sheba in May 2016. In 2017, Geralyn joined the fight against ALS for their May Fundraiser with the EC Team Dave's Dawgs in honor of Dave Andrew who was a student of hers who passed away in 2015. She has also joined in the fight against childhood cancers by becoming a shavee for her team CBug's Dawgs for the St. Baldrick's fundraiser in September. In September of 2016 EC raised $350 for the SECU Family House of W-S for their Milk Money Challenge. In just over 12 years, these fundraisers (plus side ventures), plus many food and toy drives, have raised over $20,000, 100+ dog toys and 85+ bags of food, 3 Kevlar vests plus other K9 supplies and 10 new fences.
2017 was Operation Shoebox of Love. The way it worked was simple. Fill up an empty shoebox with supplies for a dog, cat or a bunny. Wrap it and label it so EC knows what animal it is for and then drop it off at one of our drop off locations. Then in July EC had a Christmas in July event, complete with a visit from Santa, to distribute the boxes to the local rescue organizations. In total, with help from the Girl Scouts and many students EC collected 72 boxes! In 2018 we have had 2 awesome fundraiser called DOGA! Yoga with puppies!! These fundraisers were to benefit Stepping Stones Canine Rescue and a great time was had by all. Thigs slowed down in 2020, of course, but we are now back at it helping Forsyth humane Society and their adopters!
New locations
In January of 2022 Geralyn closed the doors on the Reynolda Road location and moved to Forsyth Humane Society. She runs classes there plus a free Alumni Class for FHS adopters. She is there for advice and help if needed.
A second location, Tucker's Tap Yard, is located in Downtown Winston-Salem. Classes are held at this location from October to April and offers 12k square feet of running room in a fully fenced in yard.
Elite Canine's Comfort Dog Team
Geralyn's greatest accomplishment to date is Elite Canine's Comfort Dogs. She wanted a group that would work together like a family and visit different places as a group. The EC Team visits many places including SECU Family House of Winston-Salem, Brookstown, Creekside Terrace, Brighton Gardens, UNC School of the Arts, Salem College, Carolina University, Hospice, Ronald McDonald House of WS, plus many, many more.
In November of 2015 the EC Team received the Morykwas Humane Citizen Award.
In 2017 the team won the Governor's Volunteer Award thanks to the Down Syndrome Support Network's nomination.
The team also has a Canine Cuddle Station which we have at many of the cause events in the area. ALS: Walk for the Cure, Pink Heals, Buddy Walk for PDSSN, Out of the Darkness Su***de Prevention Walk, and Make a Wish Picnic in the Plaza.
Our team continues to grow and we welcome new members all the time.

Every rescue organization is important for the welfare of the unwanted animals in our community. In some cases, it's more than just the animals being housed. There are spay/neuter programs/clinics, food pantry's, microchipping and rabies days. All of these services are so important for the people and the animals that they love.
Humane Society of Davie County is one of those organizations and they need our help. They need to raise fifty thousand dollars by the end of June, or they will be forced to close their doors. This will also add a strain on the other local rescue organizations and will also add to the pet population and euthanasia rate.
How can you help?

This is why Elite Canine uses force-free training techniques and never shock or e-collars. Our puppies come out of our programs happy, well-rounded dogs having learned with love and praise.
Please take the time to read this and at the end ask yourself this simple question: Do you want your dog to follow you because they want to or because they are scared of what will happen if they don't?
Shock or electric collars are devices placed around a dog's neck which connect to a handheld transmitter which remotely delivers varying levels of electric shocks to the dog's neck. Having already been deemed illegal as abusive tools by many countries such as Finland, parts of Canada and parts of the United Kingdom, shock collars theoretically are designed to provide an aversive stimulus to a dog as a punishment or 'correction' from its trainer or owner.
Using shock in dog training teaches a dog to avoid a certain stimulus and to stop any behavior that ‘caused’ the shock, but just because the behavior has stopped in that moment does not necessarily mean the behavior has improved or will improve long-term. The shock suppresses the behavior in that moment but does not address the behavior’s root cause.
Even though supporters of electronic training might praise the effectiveness of the method, dogs trained using these tools only comply or cooperate with the training out of a fear of what will happen if they do not comply – the dog is not truly being obedient.
Shock collars may cease a behavior in the moment, but the severe stress and anxiety they cause can lead to more aggression in the future and can create entirely new behavioral problems.
Several countries have already instated bans on shock collars, and it is only a matter of time before other countries will follow.
Rather than resort to using equipment that causes your dog fear and pain, why not try humane, force-free alternatives that are more effective long-term and that will help change the way your dog thinks and learns?
Why Should You Say NO to Shock Collars?
Shock controls a dog without allowing that dog to make choices and solve problems, which often results in 'learned helplessness' – the dog effectively learns to give up.
Shock forces a dog to ‘behave’ with little concern for the root cause of the negative behavior.
E-collar training essentially cripples an animal’s true learning ability.
Shocking a dog can actually exacerbate aggressive behavior in the future.
There are still people who vehemently defend electronic training, saying that used correctly shock collars do not cause pain, but rather just a minor irritation that the dog learns to avoid if it behaves in a desirable manner. Even if that were the case (and it's not), why resort to shock when you can get much better results with methods that motivate a dog to behave well without force and without any possibility of physical or emotional damage?
It is impossible to defend a method that has the potential to cause real harm. Even trainers that claim to be able to use the collar 'effectively' are still inflicting some level of pain or irritation on the dog.
Yet again, the simple question at play regarding the use of shock collars is this: do you want your dog to follow you because she wants to or because she is scared of what will happen if she doesn't?
Shock collars are yet another example of man’s desire for a quick fix, but positive training offers a wealth of great methods, that can dramatically change even the most severe behavioral problems in dogs.

If you're ready to welcome a pet into your life but not quite ready to adopt, consider becoming a foster with Forsyth Humane Society!
Usually, fostering is a 2-4 week period. There are some common misconceptions we’d like to clear up. You CAN foster with FHS if:
• you have other pets (as long as they’re vaccinated).
• you’ve never had a pet.
• you have children.
• you’re unemployed/retired.
• you live in an apartment.
• you don’t have a fenced-in yard.
• you live alone.
• you’re a college student (as long as you live off campus).
There is no fee to foster an animal with Forsyth Humane Society. FHS is responsible for the animal’s medical expenses and medicine and provides pet supplies thanks to generous donations from our community. If you're interested in becoming a foster, fill out our foster application form here: https://forsythhumane.org/foster/

Fosters through Forsyth Humane Society provide love, attention, and care for animals until they are ready to return to the Adoption Center.
