The Kuykendall family has been training border collies for decades, and that training has included instruction on everything from basic obedience to the highly specialized skill of herding away unwanted Canada geese for clients.
In recognition of January as “National Train Your Dog Month”, the Kuykendall’s are stressing the importance of teaching your dog the basics. Learning how to sit: “Once your dog is in a sitting position, say ‘Sit’, then reward him with a treat, and show him affection. Repeat this sequence a few times every day until your dog has mastered the command.”
Learning how to come: “Do this by using a leash and collar as a training device whenever your dog leaves the house to get into the family car, or go for a walk.
“I call them the “3 R’s”: Repeating things helps your dog learn, Rewarding your dog for good behavior over and over again, and Reinforcing the lesson at regular intervals means your dog won’t forget what he’s learned,” said Gwen. For more information visit www.Kuykendall-BC.com

Remember Ladybug? She was surrendered in June of 2016 and HERO has been caring for her since that time. When she arrived she was so thin and malnourished our veterinarian told us she didn't know whether or not we'd be able to save her. With lots of love and dedication from our volunteers she is now flourishing in her foster home.
Ladybug has special dietary needs and HERO currently spends $175 per month to provide her with the feed our veterinarian has recommended. We also have vet and farrier expenses we have to pay.
Won't you please consider a tax deductible donation towards her care? Or become a sponsor and make a monthly contribution to help defray her costs?
Donations can be mailed to HERO, P.O. Box 11045, Winston Salem, NC 27116-1045.
Online donations can be made thru our website at www.heroequinerescue.org
This weekend Miss May had a visit from the farrier. She was a star, patiently standing while he trimmed away.
A little ground work with Miss May... she’s still lacking in confidence but is coming along nicely
May enjoying the cooler weather today, she’s really settled into her foster home.
