Happy Birthday to our favorite Virginia Tech doc, Dr. Spencer!!! 🥳
We’re so lucky to have her and we know how eager everyone is to get to know her better, so here are some fun facts about her!
#1 - Dr. Spencer played soccer growing up and loved it, which led her to being so good at fact #2 - She’s ran a half marathon before! 😱 isn’t that incredible?
Oh! Not impressive enough?? well, here’s fact #3 - she also waterskis, snowboards and wakeboards in her free time!!! By far, our most athletic employee 😂

Happy Birthday Dr. Spencer! 🎂 and thank you for everything you do for us and our patients.

Have you heard of Salty and Roselle? Here’s the story of two pups who lived the same tragedy but became heroes to many that day.
Salty and Roselle were two guide dogs who were with their owners at the World Trade Center when it was attacked on September 11, 2001.

🐾 Salty and his owner, Omar Rivera (who lost his sight at the age of 28), found themselves on the 71st floor of Tower 1 when the World Trade Center was attacked. Salty was a fully trained guide dog who showed loyalty and bravery that day and refused to leave Omar’s side. Even as others were trying to help by guiding his leash, he always stuck by Rivera’s side and helped guide him to safety.

🐾 Roselle was just a couple floors above and used to nap under her owner’s desk while at work. That day, they found themselves on the 78th floor in Tower 1 of the World Trade Center when it was attacked. She woke up at the impact to the first tower, which was just 15 floors above where she was with her owner, Michael Hingson, who had been blind since birth and neeeded her help. Despite the smoke, noise and confusion around her, she guided Michael to the stairwell and helped 30 other people descend to safety as she met firemen along the way. This journey took over an hour but her owner stated that while everyone ran and panicked, Roselle never lost focus and remained calm.

Both Salty and Roselle, were later recognized and awarded the Dickin Medal. We remember both of these heroes today, among the ones we lost.

Dr. Spencer is a proud Virginia native and has an impressive educational background having earned both, her bachelor’s degree in animal and poultry sciences in 2018 and her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine in 2022 from Virginia Tech—Go Hokies! Dr. Spencer has a passion for surgery and internal medicine and is dedicated to providing exceptional care for her animal patients, and to add on to that, she is Fear Free Ceritfied! 😻
Outside of her professional life, she cherishes the time spent with her husband, two dogs, and cat, and it doesn’t stop there! She’s also an outdoor enthusiast, who loves hiking, spending time at the lake and of course, never misses a chance to enjoy Virginia Tech football games.
Welcome to the team, Dr. Spencer! We’re delighted to have you! 🐾

So your hooman went back to school! Now what?🥺
It’s been almost three months of nothing but fun, constant playtime, late nights, tug of war, hugs, cuddles and all of the sudden it stops. The tv is off, the house is silent and there’s less people than you recall… It’s common that after the first day of school your pet may experience the stress of change, and this be mistaken with “bad behaviors”. Why is that? pets express boredom and depression in many different ways, from not eating, to destroying furniture, to having “accidents” inside the house.
Want to help your pet have a smooth back to school transition? Here are some tips! 📝

• Keep your pet entertained while rewarding them for problem-solving skills.

Uh-oh! Storm season started earlier than anticipated, so here are some tips on how to prepare for a storm with your pets! ⛈️ TIP #1 - Always have your pet’s microchip information up to date! This will be helpful if they ever get lost during a storm. ⛈️ TIP #2 - Pack a bag for your pet! Make sure you include water bottles, food, good quality leashes and harnesses, medications and bowls. ⛈️ TIP #3 - Have a First Aid Kit on hand! These can easily be ordered from Amazon and used anytime you need them. ⛈️ TIP #4 - Keep your pet’s carrier out where it’s easy to grab and go. Hi RVH friends....we do not know Buddy, but wanted to share in the hopes of finding him a forever home. I have had him since February boarding him. Here is his info and pics. Buddy is 100%%% ready to go to a new home. If interested please direct message me. Buddy is a Black lab mix male dog.
