Wildlife Safari

Wildlife Safari 600-acre zoo with animals from around the world & a 4.5-mile drive-thru loop Wildlife Safari began as the vision and dream of one man - Frank Hart.
(2886)

It was his goal to create a facility in the Pacific Northwest that would help save rare and endangered species from around the world. Over 50 years later, Wildlife Safari has grown into an AZA-accredited non-profit wildlife park dedicated to education, conservation and research.

Our elephants are true experts in food prep! 🐘 Watch as one of our clever girls, Moja, works hard using her tusks and trunk to skillfully peel off the bark of one of the new logs in her yard — one of her favorite treats! Elephants in the wild often forage this way, using their strength and smarts to access the most nutritious parts of plants and trees.🌳

Next time you visit, keep an eye out for these amazing feeding behaviors. Our elephants are always up to something impressive!

Happy National Cat Day! 🐾From the purrs of house cats to the roars of big cats, today we’re celebrating all things feline! 🐱 But did you know there are some key differences between our cuddly pets and their wild relatives?

🌟 Cheetah – These sleek sprinters can reach speeds up to 70 mph, but unlike true big cats, they can’t roar! Instead, they communicate with chirps and purrs 🐆

🌟 Tiger – Known for their powerful build and iconic stripes, tigers are solitary animals and the largest of all big cats. They can swim, climb, and have an impressive roar that can be heard from miles away! 🐅

🌟 Lion – The social kings and queens of the jungle! Lions are unique among big cats for their family pride groups, and their roar is the loudest of all big cats! 🦁

Whether they purr or roar, we love them all! ❤️ Celebrate with us by sharing your favorite feline fact!

We want to give a big thank you to the Oregon Cultural Trust! 🎉 Thanks to their generous grant, we’ve made some exciting updates to our Safari Dome and Village! 🏞️

We’ve replaced our old bleachers with brand-new, collapsible seating, giving our guests a more comfortable experience during events like our dome shows. With the additional funds, we’ve also upgraded lighting, improved electrical capacity for future events, and added outdoor seating throughout the village, including new picnic tables for large groups and accessible seating. Your support helps us create a more welcoming space for all! 🙌

Look how far Margie has come! 🍼➡️🌿 From the day she was born here at Wildlife Safari to the graceful giraffe she is today, it’s amazing to watch her grow. She went from wobbling on her long legs to towering over her keepers with confidence.

We love seeing Margie thrive and can’t wait to share many more years with her!💛

Cal wants to make sure everyone knows it's Reptile Awareness Day! 🦎🐢 Today, we’re shining the spotlight on Cal, our desert tortoise here at Wildlife Safari! 🐢 Desert tortoises like Cal are masters of survival, thriving in harsh environments where temperatures soar and water is scarce. These slow-moving reptiles can live up to 80 years and spend most of their lives in burrows to escape the desert heat.

Did you know reptiles are cold-blooded, which means they rely on external sources like the sun to regulate their body temperature? Reptiles play a vital role in maintaining healthy ecosystems, and today is the perfect day to appreciate these amazing creatures and their conservation. Stop by the Safari Village to say hi to Cal and learn more about how we can protect reptiles and their habitats!

An Experience Beyond the Zoo

Wildlife Safari is the true intersection of human and nature nestled into the picturesque hills of Southern Oregon; a veritable Garden of Eden, horticultural wonderland and Giraffic Park, all in one. With over 400 acres of space for some of the rarest, most endangered and simply coolest species on earth to roam, Wildlife Safari is truly an experience beyond a zoo.

Wildlife Safari gives you the opportunity to take a trip to Southern Oregon to escape on a wild African Safari and get up close to Ostrich, Watusi cattle, Lions and Zebra. Venture through the homes of hippos and the land of the scimitar horned oryx. Your journey will take you through Southern Africa where the Rhino and Giraffe rule. Carry on to interpretive wetlands, cleaning the local waters in reaffirmation of our commitment to the soil before venturing into the land of bears, bison and elk within the sprawling canyon forests of North America. Take a trip past the awe-inspiring African and Asian elephants and prepare to enter the land of emu, yak and white naped cranes as your tour of the incredibly diverse wildlife of planet Earth continues on in Asia. Dare yourself to end your journey with a trip through a carnivore loop featuring Wildlife Safari’s top cheetah breeding grounds and ferocious Sumatran Tigers. At Wildlife Safari, adventure rules daily.

And it isn’t just a drive-through animal park. Wildlife Safari boasts one of the top cheetah breeding research centers on Earth and is the number one cheetah breeding facility outside of Africa. Number two on Earth. Scores of students enter Wildlife Safari’s internship programs each year and an international veterinary medicine program resides on Safari grounds. Hundreds of young students are reached each year by education programs for school-aged children and some high school students even attend ecology, English and mathematics classes on site.

Your support and visits provide for any number of lofty projects that Wildlife Safari has set its eyes on, including the creation of a Tembo Darasani or Elephant Classroom to connect humans with mighty elephants while learning about their struggle to survive as a species; building an expanded Sumatran Tiger Oasis to launch a Species Survival Plan spearheaded project to breed these most endangered of tigers and help save their kind; to engage with local communities on the intricate and vital matters of human-wildlife conflict and much, much more.
