****Available for adoption****

Please read entire post!

W***y is an approximate 18 yr old, 14.3hh grade gelding. He is BLIND in his left eye. It does not bother him and he has a clean bill of health. Vet checks are welcome.

W***y was adopted out in August of 2022 and returned in 2023.

FULL DISCLOSURE, HE BUCKED THE ADOPTER OFF AND BROKE THEIR SHOULDER.

We had him medically checked out he was fine. Our team rode him a few times here and he was fine. So we sent him to an offsite trainer to get a full 30 day evaluation done. We wanted to make sure we haven't missed anything before we released him for adoption again.

Thank you to CZ Mustangs for doing a great job evaluating W***y!

Here is the evaluation report from her:
W***y Final 30 Day Evaluation:

Following the completion of W***y’s 30 days in training, I do believe he is adoptable to the public.

W***y is a very sweet, kind horse.
He rides walk trot canter in the arena or out on the trails, and is generally a pretty brave horse. He does have a natural “big” stride at the trot, and a smooth canter. Even when asked for a slow jog, he has some pep in his step that is probably not ideal for an adopter looking for a slow paced horse.

He is willing with obstacle training and seems to enjoy it.
If he is unsure about something, whether it is an obstacle, something new in his environment, or out on the trails, he does not make a big deal out of it, and with the support of his rider will push through it with ease. He has not presented himself as a spooky horse to me.
He flexes soft in the bridle, has a great stop, backs up, and has responsive body control.
He can be on the sensitive side, both on the ground and undersaddle. Under saddle, he does not require much pressure and someone that is soft in their aids will do well with him. On the ground, someone that is kind but confident will do well with him.
Someone that is high energy or very dominantly corrective, both on the ground and undersaddle, would make him nervous.
He shows me that an intermediate rider would be best suited for him.

He is a great horse and I have enjoyed working with him. Thank you for trusting me with W***y. If it is any help to your team, I would be more than happy to answer any questions based off of my experience with him for potential adopters.

**************************************************

W***y is current on coggins, dental, farrier, deworming, vaccines and is microchipped.

We will require 1 professional reference on the application that can vouch for your riding and handling skills.

WE WILL NOT ADOPT TO A BEGINNER OR CHILD

W***y needs a quiet, confident rider that has a good "feel".

We believe he would make a great trail or even obstacle horse.

W***y loads, ties, clips, stands for vet and farrier.

He is a pretty uncomplicated horse that just needs someone to help progress his skills.

Our team is working hard getting updated pictures and bio's put together for the horses. We do have a few horses available for adoption and will try to get those done first but in the meantime, here is a cutie to hold you over!

Apollo is a 12 yr old mini stallion. Yes, he is intact. He is a permanent resident and will live his life out with us.

He came in extremely emaciated and ended up having to be hospitalized for a few days. After lots of test and bloodwork he was diagnosed with end stage kidney disease. Our specialist said ge has the smallest kidneys he has ever seen in a mini. It could possibly be a birth defect or at some point he ingested something toxic. He was only given a few years to live but that was 3 years ago! He is doing well but he has a very strict diet and care protocol.

He gets lots of fluids (mush diet) to help take stress off his kidneys. He gets minimal medications and this is why he is still a stallion. The medications and sedation required to geld him would possibly overwhelm his system.

He is well mannered and kept in a stud stall.

Fun fact: He LOVES to jump. The volunteers take him out in the arena and he sails over our little mini jumps!

We are not sure how much time he has with us but we will do our very best to make sure has a great life.

If you are interested in sponsoring Apollo send us an email at [email protected] for more details.

*When to call your veterinarian
and more!

Wayne Elkins will be presenting the farrier portion at 12:30. He will be going over the following:
*How often should your horse be trimmed
*Why is a schedule important?
*What you should do in between visits

I have tried to type this post numerous times and just couldn't find the words. I will try my best to give our girl the sendoff she deserves.

We deal with loss a lot in the rescue world, but it doesn't get any easier and some losses rattle us to the core.

Chickweed is one of those losses.

We laid our dear Chick to rest last week. Her health was declining quickly, and quality of life was fading. These decisions are never taken lightly and making sure we don't let our horses suffer is the priority.

Chick came to us in May of 2023 from a neglect case with the Sheriff's Office. We had been very vocal about the care and treatment of a group of horses with a local therapy riding program. TianVica had been a great program for years and then a new director stepped in. It was BAD. We removed one of our horses (Little Bit) and called in law enforcement. They ended up removing 8 horses. 1 had to be euthanized at the time of removal as she was suffering. The other 7 came to us for rehabilitation.

Chickweed had been a therapy pony for 14 years. She was great at her job. SHE LOVES KIDS! This pony absolutely adored kids. When she was removed from the neglect she was in bad shape. Her Cushing's had not been diagnosed or treated. She was emaciated, had long hooves, gross, long matted hair and her teeth were so sharp they had gouged holes in the sides of her mouth. We didn't know if she was going to pull through. This horse had devoted her life to taking care of children and this is the thanks she got.

But she rallied and came back better than ever. We got the Cushing's under control, her teeth were floated but she still had to go on a mush diet to be able to chew, we body clipped all that gross hair off, and she gained weight.

She was an instant favorite at the barn. The trainers, the volunteers, the Reading with Rescues students, all made over her. She was in her happy place.

We were so happy for her and wanted to give her the retirement she deserved. We had hoped she would be with us for many years to come but it wasn't meant to be.

Chick battled with numerous health issues in the last year. We finally got her Cushing's under control then she got anhidrosis (stopped sweating). Then she started having seizures. They were small at first but then they progressed. She then started battling multiple sinus infections that antibiotics just couldn't get under control.

Then the Grand Mal seizures started. She ended up fracturing her knee and then busting open her face. They were getting more frequent, and the good days were getting few and far between.

We had to practice what we preach and make sure we didn't wait too late to make that call. We couldn't let it go to the point that she ended up breaking a leg or getting a massive head trauma. It is one of the hardest calls we have to make for our dear friends. We would never be able to forgive ourselves if we waited too late and let her suffer to that extent. It isn't fair.

So, I made the call. We spoiled her rotten for several days. She got all the treats she wanted. Peppermints were her favorite and she got them almost constantly. She got to free graze with her friends without wearing the muzzle. She got to free roam the barn and visit with whoever she wanted and do whatever she wanted. She was groomed and doted on. She had her hair braided with ribbon. We made sure she knew that she was loved, adored, and respected.

She deserved so much more. I am so sorry Chickweed that we were not able to fix all the damage done.

Her last day with us was a good day. She was happy, she actually ate her breakfast, she ate her treats, she grazed around the barn lot, and she was groomed and loved on.

We were able to say good-bye on a good day. That was the best gift we could give her.

Rest in Peace our dear little Chick. I hope you are running free with the heavenly herd and eating all the grass you want without that stupid muzzle you figured out how to get off no matter how we put it on.

This loss hit our entire team hard and our Reading with Rescues students. She loved that program. She would interact with each kid and be so responsive to them. It was amazing to watch. The kids loved her dearly and are heartbroken.

I can never put into words how horses impact our very being. Please keep our team and our students in your prayers.

Run free Chick.

When the 27 yr old sweet, easy to handle gelding, rears up breaks the snap on the lead rope and runs around the property like a 2 year old 🤣

Then he is finally caught, does his photo shoot and goes back to the barn rearing and bucking!

Oh Ravvi, glad you are feeling good.

Tess said don't forget $5 Friday! Sorry Tess, we have forgotten for several weeks now 😬

Tess had her training evaluation this week. She is what we lovingly like to call a friendly feral.

What is a friendly feral? These are horses that are friendly and like people. They tend to want to be with you but have little to no basic handling skills. Tess loves people and is easy to catch and halter.

She was decent for the farrier. But that is about the extent of her training. She is terrified of fly spray and kinda leads as long as you are going the direction she wants to go, if not she will bolt and run back to where she feels comfortable.

We will be working on these basic skills first. Especially the standing for fly spray. She has really bad skin and needs to be groomed and sprayed regularly.

This was her response to being dewormed this week 🤣

We dewormed all of our horses for tapeworms the last few weeks. I was shocked to see what Zimectrin Gold is selling for! Luckily we had some left over from last year but we still had to purchase $425 worth!

Thank you Above All Land Services!

We haven't trimmed our trees in a few years. They were out of control and beating up all of our trailers and vehicles coming down the drive. They were also covering up our fence line and hot wire and you would have to wade through the limbs to open and close the gate. It was WAY over due.

They spent all day Monday and part of Tuesday trimming and cleaning up.

Our feed delivery truck was able to get through the drive today without hitting any limbs!

Give them a call for all your tree trimming needs!
