Someone had a joyful time in the fresh shavings.
If you missed Pepe's update, it wasn't the news we were hoping for. His tumors are malignant, and surgery isn't an option for him. The largest growth surrounds the nerves that help him swallow, so the most compassionate choice is to let him pass peacefully on a good day before he struggles to eat or drink.
Right now, he's living his best life, surrounded by love from our team. We’ll be saying our goodbyes soon, but until then, we’re doing everything we can to make his remaining days happy and comfortable.
These are the hardest cases to face. Pepe was abandoned and trying to survive on the streets, searching for food wherever he could find it. He’s an incredibly sweet horse who loves people and attention. Losing him will be really heartbreaking for our team.
We’re thankful that we can give him a peaceful ending, ensuring he won't have to pass on alone or hungry.
This is what rescue is all about. I hope we can continue helping horses like Pepe in the future. Sadly, donations are lower than ever, and I’m truly worried. But for now, we’ll keep giving horses hope, and when we can't cure their suffering, we’ll provide them with one last act of kindness—letting them go peacefully on a good day.
