Bloat, also known as gastric dilation-volvulus (GVD) is a life threatening condition where the stomach becomes distended with gas and fluid.
This is common in deep chested dogs such at Great danes, German shepherds etc..

You can minimize the risk by avoiding exercise right after meals. You can also get a a surgical procedure to prevent GVD called a Gastropexy.

Meet Freyah! 🐾

Freyah is a Shiba Inu x Corgi mix! Freyah presented with blood in her urine. Radiographs found a large number of stones in her bladder! Bladder stones can form due to abnormal urine pH, diet, or bacterial infections.

We decided it was best for her to go under anesthesia to have a “Cystotomy”- or “Stone Removal” As you can see in the pictures she had quite a few stones that needed to be removed! Freyah was sent home with pain medications and antibiotics. We will send out the stones for analysis and also do a urine culture to ensure we are using the correct antibiotics.

Meet Jerry! 🐾

Jerry came to see us with plans to get neutered! Typically feline neuters are very routine and quick procedures. In Jerry’s case he had a condition called Cryptorchidism. This is a rare condition for felines that affects less than 2% of male cats!

Cryptorchidism is a condition where one or both testicles fail to descend into the sc***um. This makes a routine cat neuter a lot more invasive since now the DVM has to search and retrieve the retained testicle from either the abdomen or inguinal region.

Luckily in Jerry’s case we were able to retrieve both testicles and get him back home to his family later that day. He was such a sweet and big boy!💙

We lost a loved soul here at Paw Haven this weekend, Tyson.
Tyson belonged to one of our techs, Ellie and he left a huge impression on our hearts, so much so that he took a piece of our hearts with him. He had just started his journey with chemo but, it was too much for his body. Ellie loved him so dearly and he will be missed more than words can explain. Please send love to our amazing tech as she goes through this hard time.

🌀HURRICANE MILTON UPDATE 🌀 Hours: 🐶 Wednesday 8am-12pm 🐶Thursday CLOSED 🐶Friday: TBD Important Points: 🐈 Get storm anxiety meds TODAY if your pet needs them. 🐈 Make sure your pet has ID on them - tags and microchips up to date in case they run away or get out. 🐈 Make sure you have enough medication for at least a week if your pet is on long-term meds. 🐈 Make sure you have a cool spot for any refrigerated meds if power is lost.
