While Elwood and Krispy are working on their field training, we took them to an AKC Fetch Novice test this morning. It’s a pretty simple test, demonstrating the ability to move politely onto and off the test field, retrieve the object (a bumper in this case) back to the handler and repeat for 3 retrieves at approximately 30’. We opted to attempt the tests back-to-back (2 passing scores required for a title). This is Elwood, handled by Andrea, easily passing the requirements to earn his first performance title! Krispy passed her tests as well, we just didn’t take a video. It was a fun event and we’ll do more of them!

The puppies are 5 weeks old today, so we took their first official photos! They are identified by colored collars - blue is a boy, the rest are the girls!

The puppies had a “home remodel” yesterday. Their whelping box was removed, territory doubled and jungle gym added. They love it! They are 3.5 weeks old.

Well, here they are doing what they do best; sleeping. The six of them arrived via c-section on July 3rd. They are the most satisfied puppies we have ever had. Five girls and one, lone boy. The breeding is Diamond Beauty Rock on Fire to Clandrift Dark Legend via frozen semen. They are cute when they wake up!

We are expecting! Dazzle is due July 1, bred to “Jack” (English CH Clandrift Dark Legend), a lovely dog in type, character and working ability, who we met and admired years ago at the famous Crufts dog show in England.

We had some time today to get the puppies to the pond for the first time! Wicca helped out by showing the way (she’s farther away in the video). Krispy went in without hesitation and retrieved every time.

She looooves to retrieve and is already swimming. High hopes for this little girl too!

Meet Elwood (Liberty Funky Soul Man)! He has joined us as a stud fee puppy from Liberty FCRs (Christine Teneralli) - his father is Spark (B. Pyromania) and his mother is Plymouth (Kistryl Pilgrim’s Feast). He’s a funny guy and he really likes to retrieve! He’s a great mix of both parents and we’re excited about his future.

After a long hiatus from field training (Kass was a professional field trainer for over 30 years), we are preparing a couple dogs for Junior Hunter tests. This is Tempest (GCHB Kistryl Tempest - Itzawhat’s All In x Kistryl Y’All By Bertschire) running 2 land singles this past Saturday.

Tempest’s basics were done by Tim Wiggins of Oconee River Retrievers - Tim worked for us for 3 years before opening his own training kennel almost 10 years ago.

We will be running our first JH tests this weekend - hoping Tempest runs this well “when it counts” 🙂

The puppies have moved to a new palatial estate! We have a dedicated “dog room”, outfitted for maximum comfort. The puppies get a large space, with dog doors leading out to a securely fenced yard. We move them from our living room to the “puppy palace” around 4 weeks of age, and they have a lot of room and most importantly, they start to housebreak themselves as soon as they have access to the outdoors!

They had a nail trim today, and one of their daily visits from Donna, so I took a video for everyone to enjoy.

We have 8 so far - 4 boys and 4 girls! This has been an easy whelping - 8 babies in 2 hours!! If only she had started 12 hours ago 🙂

It’s possible there is 1 more, but she is settling in, so we may be finished.
