We will start our January/February class session at Lucky Dog the week of January 22. Naively, we hope the worst of the winter storms are over by next week, but that's probably just wishful thinking. Most of our classes except the agility classes meet inside our training building which is protected from wind and precipitation but not heated. We will offer Introductory Agility 1 in the March session. The Foundations for Agility is the preparatory class for Introductory Agility. F4A meets primarily in the training building and your dog should be ready to work off leash . If your dog does not have reasonable off leash skills consider DSF, Recallers, Rally or Tricks. Class sessions are 5 weeks. Advanced Agility and Advanced Rally classes are $100, Tricks and Intro to Scentwork are $150, and all other classes are $130. Email us at [email protected] if you have questions or to register for a class.

If you are looking for a fun activity to do with your dog that relies on their keen sense of smell, come try barn hunt! Dogs search for rats hidden away in ventilated, protective PVC tubes amongst hay bales, alerting their handler when they find one. This instinct based sport is meant to imitate the real work that ratting dogs like terriers are bred to do, but any breed can participate and enjoy it.

Our drop in class meets every Wednesday and Sunday morning at 9:00am. If interested in participating, please email us at [email protected].

The next session of classes is set to begin the week of Sept. 11th. Hello Lucky Doggers,

Sandy, Penny, Ashley and Tara would like to invite all of you to a potluck get-together at Lucky Dog on Saturday June 10th from 5:00pm until roughly 8:00pm (or until we are done hanging out). We will be celebrating the amazing dog sport community that Sandy has built over the past 15+ years through food, dog games, and fellowship. We don't want to call this a farewell, because that makes Sandy sad, but we are thinking of it more as a transition celebration. :)

Dogs are of course welcome as we will be doing some dog games as well, but do keep in mind there will be lots of people, food, other dogs, and activity about, so use your best judgement on whether your dog would enjoy the party vibe. Your dog will need to be on leash at all times unless participating in a game and you may bring a crate. We encourage you to definitely bring your own chair or picnic blanket if you prefer. Weather in June may be hot, so bring fans for your dog as well if you have them.

Since we are expecting a large crowd, we ask that everyone bring food of some kind to share with all. I've shared a google sign-up sheet so that everyone knows what everyone else is bringing (while I love mac n' cheese, 50 trays of it might be a bit much). If you can't make it right when it starts, drop in whenever you can, however food will likely be served at the start. This will be a BYOB event, so if you want any adult beverages, bring them along for your personal enjoyment.

Please RSVP so we know how many people to expect. Spouses, kids and friends are welcome to come, too. Parking will be in the large field in the front, between the dock and the barn.

We are excited to see everyone and celebrate Lucky Dog with you!

We will start our Sept/Oct class session the week of Sept 13. For Intro Agility we have the following pre-requisites:

Necessary skills:
Experience training using lure, shaping, and capturing using either a clicker or verbal marker
Handler focus with moderate distraction (like other dogs working/barking excitedly)
Recall off leash
Nose target to hand and lid
Sit and/or down
Stay/wait (even if just for short duration and minimal distance)

Useful (but not required) experiences:
Baby teeter/wobble board
Jump stantions/hoops
Straight tunnel
Dog works equally well on both sides of the handler
Dog has been introduced to working AWAY from the handler (like send around a pole/barrel, where there is something between the dog and the handler)

If you have done Dog Sports Foundation (DSF) the only criteria for doing Intro Agility that might present difficulties is the Recall. If your recall isn't solid please consider doing the Recallers class before trying Intro Agility. The Tricks class is a great way to improve your working relationship with your dog and is a lot of fun.

Here is the Fall class schedule:
