Shiners still in quarantine and getting over strangles, which isn’t all too surprising considering he came from an auction house. All symptoms are gone, but he will stay in quarantine until he has gone 30 days symptom free. He spent the day at the vet for a physical and coggins. He loaded up after the smallest amount of hesitation. Unloaded at the vet like a champ and walked right back on to head home. Vet established that he’s 4 years old and in good health other than the strangles. Coggins came back negative and he’ll head back in 2 weeks for his shots and to be dewormed.

He tries very hard but he’s a bit cautious of humans and doesn’t have much a handle on him. So now that the symptoms are gone and he’s feeling a whole lot better we can concentrate on getting him up in weight, handled and hopefully eventually broke!

The last few weeks have been a bit hectic and we ended up pulling this little paint out of a kill pen in Texas. We named him Shiner and are excited to see where his second chance at life takes him ☺️

One of our Valkin Graduates Azalea a 5 year old OTTB performed with her owner at the Clemson Rodeo this past weekend among some other ones this year! I love seeing these ponies grow and thrive in their new homes! Way to go Amanda and Azalea🌺!

Super sweet 7 year old 16.2hh gelding. Very mellow and down to earth. Not phased by much. Would make a fantastic trail gelding or family horse. He does crib if given the opportunity but it’s easily managed by a cribbing collar and he is sound on osselets. He has been let down and is ready to start his second career. I do not have riding videos, but do have videos of him moving out in the field.

Rehomed♥️

9 year old 15.1hh gelding. In your pocket type. Self loads, ties, bathes. Perfect on trails, crosses water and logs without hesitation. I’ve used him in my lesson program and he’s very patient and forgiving. Knows how to take a joke. 3 super smooth gates. He’s been to the roping pen, to barrel races, he’s pushed cattle and been to rodeos. He’s a good all a rounder and would make a fantastic family or husband horse.

Up to date on all shots, has a current coggins and teeth were done less than a year ago.

Only con is that he can get lookey at times, but absolutely no kick, bite, rear, buck or bolt.

I really don’t have enough good things to say about this guy. He is an in your pocket type and absolutely loves his human attention. He wants to be someone’s. He is a little over at his knee but he is SOUND. It does NOT bother him. He’s more of a push ride and would make a fantastic trail or husband horse.

Ain’tyoudreamin aka “Dreamin” is a 14 year old OTTB. Dreamin spent most of his life on the racetrack where he was a spoiled and successful racehorse. His loving track owners then retired him and he came here to Valkin.

Dreamin has been a staple of this facility. He has a docile and loving personality, which has lead him to help teach all kinds of students and he’s of course my go to horse for absolutely anything. Dreamin show jumps, he sorts cattle, he ropes, he does drill, he’s used as a firework horse and barrel races. He’s a true jack of all trades.

His first year on the rodeo circuit and when he had just started to pick up roping, he ended up getting ulcers. He underwent a 6 week treatment of ulcer guard. Which anyone who has ever had the extreme misfortune of treating ulcers knows that’s extremely expensive.

I spoke to his track owners and they suggested neighlox, which is what they had him on when he raced on the track. Neighlox works wonders but is also pretty costly.

I searched for all kinds of alternatives that would help my sweet horse stay comfortable while rodeoing. I would even give him ulcer guard starting the day before the rodeo until the day after, but he’d still become hot, agitable and would go off his feed while away from home. He’s even go off his feed periodically at home.

This was quickly becoming a very concerning issue. Dreamin loves performing and having a job, but I was stuggling to keep him comfortable. Let alone doing so affordably.

A boarder then introduced me to 100X Equine. GutX has been an absolute life changer for Dreamin. He has now been on it for a year and had ZERO gut problems! He has been to 13 RODEOS this season and that doesn’t include the junior rodeos, ropings, trail rides and weekly practices. GutX has kept him happy and comfortable every second and every mile of 2023.

Proud to call these ladies part of the Valkin family!

Blue Ridge Rodeo has been a blast. What a great show and rodeo crew! We’ve had back to back rodeos this past month and traveled hundreds of miles. Thankfully we all have ’s GutX on hand to keep out horses happy and comfortable,
but us human partners could use a couple weeks off from the road. So we’ll see you in Chickamauga at the Kensington Rodeo Laborday weekend!!

A friend of mine has this absolutely gorgeous 3 year old 16hh paint with roaning. 120 days of training, he’s been trail riden, crosses water and been roped off of. He’s gonna make someone a heck of a flashy gelding in any direction once he’s finished. He’s green, but no spook, buck, rear or any bad habits. Located in Booker TX, but I’m picking up a different mare from this trainer tomorrow (7/31/23) and can bring him back with me. She’s asking 3,5xx

We couldn’t be any happier and excited for Karen Schubert Ivester for her newly purchased baby, Designers Poco Cat!! I mean, just look at that coloring 🤩
