PAWS of Hertford County is a 501(c)(3), volunteer run non-profit animal rescue. Formed in 2006, and based in Hertford County, NC, we work collaboratively with Hertford County Animal Control to provide care and find homes for the abandoned animals within the county. Annually, we bring approximately 400 animals into our care. We also provide assistance to the community through low-cost spay/neuter a

INTRODUCING JASPER!!

Jasper's journey to PAWS started with quite the adventure. As you may or may not know, our animals start out with our local animal control and then PAWS brings them over to our buildings as we have space. Well, Jasper had other plans. When the animal control officer went to unload him from the truck, Jasper took off into the woods!! He was spotted several times but would run anytime he saw us. A trap was set and Jasper said NOPE. We knew the temperatures would be dropping amd we really wanted him to come indoors. Well, last week after a few days of super cold temperatures, Jasper turned himself in and followed Wednesday right inside our gates!! He stayed on the loose for almost 2 months!!!

Since being with PAWS, he's been really affectionate, does well on the leash and is nothing like the little bandit we failed to capture outside.

The Shy Cat Club has decided they want to change their name to something more fun and reflective of their new found confidence! Jasmine is definitely the lead of the group with Junebug singing backup. Jack is doing his best to keep up with the new rhythm. Janelle isn't sure why all of a sudden people are to be trusted but we're still hoping she'll join us on our new journey towards adoption!

Tillie is the perfect gray tabby. She looks like a work of art - her gray and black are so perfect together! Beautiful tabby Tilly is as sweet as they come but still likes her space from time to time. She is never aggressive and always gentle but will sometimes just exercise her right to approach you slowly on her terms. She does love affection and is easy to cuddle and adores play time with her condo-mates and toys. Food and treats are a real plus for her and she beats the boys to the door every time meals or treats are offered. Clover enjoys the simple things in life. Clover has a gentle, relaxed demeanor, always content and unbothered. Clover enjoys lounging around, piddling in the yard, basking in the sun, or lying next to you for some quiet companionship. She's happy with a pat on the head or a simple scratch behind the ears. No barking, no rushing around. She is patient, never demanding attention, but always grateful for a little love. Jasmine actually greeted some of our volunteers this weekend! She has started to enjoy being rubbed but still bolts when some of the other cats make a noise. She's definitely showing improvement though.

THANK YOU ROGER & SUSAN!!

We received a box full of Cat chow, pate and kitten milk in memory of their beloved Bella.

Bella came to PAWS in 2018 & spent over a year in our care with no luck at finding a family. She began to have health issues and at just 8 years old, was deemed a hospice cat. Vets weren't super optimistic on how long she had. In true PAWS fashion, an interested adopter finally came along. We were ecstatic and heartbroken at the same time. Her first chance at a home and they'd probably decide not to take her once they heard of her health issues.

BUT also in true PAWS fashion, the adopters weren't phased and the adoption was complete! Her family was optimistic and worked with their vet to extend her life and helped her thrive! Vets cautiously hoped for about 3 months of life and her family was able to help her make it over 3 years!!!

She passed away a few years ago knowing nothing but love. We are eternally grateful to her family for choosing her and for honoring her memory!

Jack is another member of the Shy Cat Club. Jack is a stunning, long haired beauty with locks so long and luxurious that he deserves his own shampoo commercial! We're not sure why this group of kitties decided the world was scary or what has made some start to reconsider but we're definitely happy about it! Jack has even allowed a couple of volunteers to put a harness on him and walk him around inside our catroom. We're hoping to revoke his Shy Cat Club membership soon!

Jasmine & Sage want to give a huge MEOW OUT & THANK YOU to Bed And Biscuits Pet Resort LLC for their generous donation!!

They hosted a Holiday Pawty for their furry friends and were able to raise money to help PAWS. This gift is definitely a blessing and we're so grateful for their support!!

*We also have heard great things about the staff there and their Doggy Day Care from several previous PAWS dogs!!

We've been trying to devote a little extra time to our shy cat crew lately and we've already seen improvements in some of them! Junebug often jumps on the shelves and hides when people visit her room but she decided to come down for a visit today.

*Our volunteer was SUPER EXCITED but didn't want to let it show and scare Junebug away!!
