PAWS of Hertford County is a 501(c)(3), volunteer run non-profit animal rescue. Formed in 2006, and based in Hertford County, NC, we work collaboratively with Hertford County Animal Control to provide care and find homes for the abandoned animals within the county. Annually, we bring approximately 400 animals into our care. We also provide assistance to the community through low-cost spay/neuter a

Vicky is a graduate of Kitty Confidence School with her teachers / volunteers. Vicky was among the first litter to gradate and be ready for a home. She was adopted and had to come back to PAWS after a great year and some months in a loved home. Now, Vicky is calmly waiting for her second family to choose her. She is a gorgeous gray and white tabby. Imagine a tuxedo cat, but instead of black - she wears a gray striped coat. Very stylish. For the most part, Vicky naps her days away in her favorite spot in her kitty condo. She will sometimes snuggle with her best friend, Yardley. Santana is so strikingly beautiful and glossy that Carlos Santana's song "Smooth" immediately comes to mind. This sleek black guy with a stunning face is full of curiosity and moves around just looking for something that might need his attention. He sure has "step in his groove"! Gorgeous boy loves people at first meeting! He will make biscuits, nuzzle, chirp and do all the loving things. We can even carry him around like a baby on his back! Give him a massage - he loves it! Santana loves time and lots of attention - he will request to be petted and scratched and will sit with you and twirl around your feet, nuzzle your neck ...just to be sure that you do notice him! UPDATE ON MURPHY

You may have noticed we haven't posted him lately and we figured we'd let you know why. When he came to us he was visibly in rough shape and we knew he had hookworms. After successfully treating him for the hookworms we expected him to thrive like the other dogs that have come into our care in similar shape have done. Unfortunately, Murphy gained very little weight and we didn't see much improvement. We took him to the vet and his blood work was off the charts. Almost everything that could be off was off. He was diagnosed with Immune-Mediated Hemplytic Anemia. The vet was not very optimistic with his recovery after seeing his bloodwork but we decided that since he was not in any pain we had to try. He had his 3rd vet visit yesterday and there has been some improvement in his numbers. We are fighting to save this guy because he deserves a chance. We're hoping to see Murphy 'fat and happy" very soon. He's already halfway there!! His road to recovery is a long one but we're here to help him along the way. His next checkup is May 7th.

Rodney is a perpetual motion machine. He loves being with people and will show you with head bumps and face kisses. Open the cat playroom door, and he is out in the main Cat Room! - searching for a favorite person or someone who will give him attention. Rodney and his Momcat survived Panleukopenia when he was a baby. With all the illness, his left eye was affected. It doesn't require treatment at this point - and he is not slowed down one bit because of it. It may even give him charm super-powers! Rodney is smart, gregarious and loves food. All a great combination for cat-training with healthy treats as a reward. (So many resources on-line.) He says he would love that and will sit on your shoulders as you research on your computer! And he would love you! And want to be with you. And, maybe help you wear your clothes... We are not kidding! This is a cat who will love you with his whole soul - and get into your face to tell you! Sir Charles is incredibly sweet and is dreaming of a furever home where he has lots of toys, a soft bed and a loving family. Mindy is like an exotic dessert - she is gorgeous to look at, super sweet and a wee bit spicy. She can't help it, being, black, white and orange...that third color makes her "extra". Her coloring is as vivid as her personality! Mindy loves attention and enjoys being petted. She has a shorter than usual tail that she flickers with excitement while you are talking with her and petting her. She wants more and more...and then she might need some solitude in a cozy bed. Clover and Sir Charles were on the hunt together and both said they'd much prefer to be indoors. Clover managed to find all the eggs with the exception of the one Sir Charles literally stumbled upon but she quickly stole that one from him!
