Have you ever seen a baby heartworm? When a dog tests heartworm positive, it is not hard to find these creepy crawly microfilaria, or heartworm larvae, in even a small drop of the dog's blood. This is a microscopic view of dog's blood (see all of the individual red blood cells) with a microfilaria swimming through it. If left untreated, these babies can eventually grow large enough to block vessels, mainly in the heart and lungs. An adult female can grow up to 14 inches! Thankfully this can all be easily prevented by giving your dog a regular heartworm prevention.

Rocky
Post Surgery Update:
We'd like for you to meet Rocky, he is a 9 year old yellow Lab. On December 8th, 2017 he had his hind leg amputated and NOW look at him. <3 Seeing our patients thrive after a major surgery like he had is so rewarding. We would like to thank his owners for sending us his update and allowing us to share it with you all. :)
