28 years the farm has amazing fun birthday parties and is a horse boarding and lesson facility. Our facility sponsors shows along with CGA Gymkhanas and benefit shows. Our 90-acre property is located in the Wolcott, Connecticut and is easily accessible from

Interstate 84. We are a boarding facility that includes on-site management, a 90' x 200' indoor riding arena with two heated observation rooms, two lighted outdoor rings, three jump fields and miles of scenic exercise trails. We pride ourselves on having expert instructors and knowledgeable staff along with quality horses of all levels for sale, lease or lessons. We even have an on-site tack store and separate "Birthday Barn" complete with play scape for parties! Hillside Equestrian Meadows is also the home to Cupid and Arrow, subjects of the book "CUPID'S SECRET" written by Hillside's owner, Buck Kalinowski. Cupid's Secret is an amazing story about a rescued horse with a heart on her forehead that gives birth to a c**t with an arrow on his butt. It tells a story of love and compassion, and teaches a lesson of hope and enlightenment.

So this story isn’t made up but what would you do?
my dog follows me every morning, noon, night. He is my shadow, when I’m out working so is he. When I sleep he’s on the bed and under the cover at 4 a.m.. always listens unless a squirrel or mole is spotted and then and only then I don’t exist anymore.
Today I was pulling up big flat 8’x4, framed plywood panels that were an old floor in the Alpaca barn. As they were coming out Hartly was intrigued by something under them and I was waiting for a rat to take off so he could get out from under my feet. It was the 4 th panel I lifted when I saw a skunk, I yelled so loud that Hartly jumped back and I dropped the panel then grabbed my dog cause I still get a whiff of his last skunk attack 5 months ago and was glad I stopped it.
So I put him in a stall in a nearby barn and return to lift the panel again only to see it go under another one. Then lifting that one there were 2 and when they ran under the next one I prayed they would run outside. Lifting the 3rd turned out to be 5 and I took off screaming like a little baby but was proud that I diverted my dog attention long enough to save his life from that spray.

I decided to call it a day and let them find a new home. The tracker started and I was heading back to the house and once Hartly knew I was leaving he had to come along, right……..not until he went to see what he missed and that’s when they all sprayed him and then he decided to go find his daddy who was leaving on the tractor. The smell was so bad it made my eyes hurt, people ran to their cars and I needed to go away and figure out how I was gonna keep my students, horses, customers at bay until I could grab him, who by the way was sliding his chin, face, ears on the ground to stop the sting.
Dawn dish soap, skunk be gone shampoo, mud all poured on him to put him in the barn sink to wash him off. Finally to the house for a bath and blow dryer we can tolerate each other.
