How are your pets cooling off this year ? Swimming can be a great activity for your dog as long as itโs done safely ! Here are some summer swim tips !
๐Always teach your dog how to get safely and calmly in and out of the pool. Avoid running, slipping or jumping around/in the water to prevent injuries.
๐Fit your dog with a life jacket when first teaching them to swim so they can learn confidently without going under.
๐ฆBe sure to provide fresh drinking water for your dog. Do not allow them to drink chlorinated or salt water as this can lead to medical issues, especially if consumed in large quantities.
Let us know if you have any swimming questions ! We hope you have a safe and happy summer ! ๐พ๐โ๏ธ

๐พ Weโve decked the halls in our waiting room! We hope you enjoy the festive decorations when you come to visit us this holiday season! ๐พ๐๐๐งโ๐
๐พLast week was National Walk Your Dog Week , and while we may be late to posting about it, itโs never too late to get out there and walk your dog ! Walking is great excersize for all of us, and letting your dog sniff and explore the world is wonderful for their mental state. Fall in New England is the best walking weather but donโt forget that itโs also prime season for ticks ! If your pet is not protected with a monthly flea and tick medicine please give us a call to discuss the best options ! ๐พ
Itโs a hot one today ! How are you and your pets staying cool in the heat ? ๐๐พ

Happy Monday ! Are you as happy to see your doctor as Nessa is to see us ?? ๐ถ๐พ๐ฆฎ๐ฆด๐
What a beautiful day! How are you and your furkids enjoying this weather? A nice hike, or maybe a swim? Swimming is wonderful exercise for your dogs - it's less impact on their joints and a great way to cool off on hot days. Just be sure to regulate their energy level and water intake so they don't get too overtired. Also, remember to clean and dry out their ears afterwards - excess moisture can lead to ear infections. Here is one of our technicians' dogs enjoying the lake right here in town.
We're sure you've all heard of people getting physical therapy and rehabilitation after injuries and orthopedic surgeries, but did you know that pets can, too? The pooch in this video is Gracie, she had a stubborn shoulder injury as a young dog, so in conjunction with treatments and medications from our vets, we referred her out to Wizard of Paws to see Dr. Deb Saunders. Dr. Deb used laser therapy, hydro therapy and physical strengthening exercises, like ball work, to get Gracie's injury healed. Once she was fully healed and given the all clear by ALL of her doctors, Gracie began her agility career! Since she competes regularly, she still sees the Wizard a few times a year for a check up and conditioning. Physical therapy is great for dogs who have had orthopedic surgery, older arthritic dogs, or dogs that need to lose a few pounds. In this video, you can see Gracie's body condition and the "hour glass" shape that we talk about, if we've ever had to "lecture" you about your pets' weight! ;)
If you are interested in learning more about physical therapy or conditioning for your pet, give us a call at Wolcott Vet and we can help you get your pet on the right path!
How do you keep your pets busy in this cold weather? Teaching your dogs to walk on a treadmill is a great way for them to get some safe, indoor exercise. Here is one of our technicians' dogs, Gracie, enjoying her walk.
