Today was day three of working with the c**ts, and while I had the best intentions, I didn't make it out until late afternoon.
My goal had been to halter at least Ball Park, and maybe Party Girl. Each c**t comes along at a different pace, so I didn't figure everyone would be ready. Taking things at a slower pace really helps build a good foundation for these babies to excel in the future.
I also wanted to get some pictures of Neptune's socks so I can get him registered. Well, sure enough, his feet were dirty enough I couldn't see where yellow ended and white started. Up to the house for warm water and a nail brush...
Hard to believe this c**t literally has been handled for ten minutes over two previous days. Logan had a WTH moment when he came down and saw what I was doing 😉
Neptune is from our best cross, of Jinx and Barons Sunsana. Gentle, sensible, savvy, and will get the job done. Every time.

When we wean, we always give the c**ts a couple days to settle into the new place. This time it was more than a couple but on Monday we put them in the handling chute and rubbed on each of them a bit.

Yesterday, I went to town and so today was their second day in the chute.

Ball Park walked in first, and acted like it was his tenth time.
Rubbed this guy all over, belly, back, down all four legs and his head.

He's got a sweet, gentle demeanor, and a very kind eye. Two matching socks finish out the package😉

He will be available after he's halter broke.

"Ball Park" is full brother to Vader, Zorro, and the elusive (Marilyn) Monroe.

Ball Park is already friendly and will come up to me in the wide open. I've been able to rub his nose and head. He's showing that he's going to be just as friendly and personable as his brothers and sister.

Ball Park has two almost matching socks and a star, just to make his pretty buckskin self a little fancier.

He will be weaned in November, and available after halter breaking, trailer loading, etc.

Zorro is friendly, gentle and straight. He is big enough to start and has a really good mind. First one to meet you at the gate, you can rub on him out in the big open pastures....which makes it really hard to get a sale worthy picture of him. He's got lots of hair and a smooth trot. He will mature to around 16.2h.

Zorro has half siblings winning money in ranch rodeos as well as breakaway, team roping and barrels. He has the same good mind all of the Jinx c**ts do. If you are looking for something to trail ride, move cows, drag calves or pick up broncs, Zorro is just what you are looking for.

Our mares foal out in the open on the foothills of the front. Their c**ts grow up knowing where their feet are and how to travel the country. Jinx puts some speed and cattiness even on these bigger c**ts like Zorro.

He is halter broke and ready to go, loads easily in the trailer, stands tied and is good with his feet.

Saturday we headed into Augusta for the 2nd Annual Augusta Ranch Rodeo scramble.

It was fast paced, well managed, and great watching.

We raised this nice buckskin gelding, Zans Rich Dude, aka "Johnny" who is ridden by Kody Weaver. Johnny was started and ridden by Garrett before he sold Johnny to Weavers. Johnny is out of a mare we purchased from Ashley Quarter Horses, and by our stud ZAN PAR JINX. Jinx throws incredible athleticism, mind and looks on all his c**ts.

At the end of the night, Kody and Johnny were on the winning team, took home a nice sized check, as well as a Montana Knife Company knife, Cinch jacket and a new rope.

How I spent my morning and early afternoon...

How high can a cow crap? Pretty high.

If you're wondering, yes, I did get p**p in my mouth. Still not as bad as Irish Spring though😂

There's worse ways to spend the day.

Looking all chipper after a bout of mild colic last night ...Dirty Pearl and I put on some old school miles of walking, listening for gut sounds with a stethoscope, and banamine (she is not a fan) and mineral oil.
Fortunately, she's back to her old self😉
Unfortunately, I didn't lose any weight🤨

Typically, I like to spend a little time with the babies before I name them. After an hour and half tonight, a very fitting one came to me.

Tanquery Red Rock, aka Feathers, foaled yesterday morning, here in the pasture at home. We let her stay in our little corner with the tall grass in the shade but today I had to go have a look 😊
