Hey FARMily!!

Guess what? We’re almost at ONE MONTH since we rescued Mr. Mule, and it feels like we’ve had him forever! The journey has been a whirlwind, and while progress may seem slow, it’s important to remind ourselves that it hasn’t even been a full month yet!

In so many ways, Mr. Mule is thriving! His appetite is fantastic, he’s gaining strength, and his personality is really shining through! He’s super sweet and LOVES the attention—just wait until you see him demand it! 😂 And trust me, he’s not shy about letting Andria know when he’s not in the mood for something. Andria has been learning his unique language, and it’s such a joy to see their bond grow!

He even stands outside Andria’s window, staring in just to let her know he’s ready for some quality time! And let’s talk about his meals—if they’re not just right, he’ll turn his nose up! But thanks to Andria’s dedication, he’s now slurping it right down! Hahaha!

Of course, we’ve had a few bumps along the road. There are times when he doesn’t feel great, and getting up can be a struggle for all of them. But Andria and her family are working tirelessly, pouring all their love into this sweet guy.

A HUGE shoutout to Andria for all the love and care she’s giving him! And to ALL of YOU, our amazing supporters—you helped us save this precious soul! 🙌❤️

The vet is thrilled with Mr. Mule’s progress, and we are too!

So, let’s end this post with a big, loud WAHOO! Can we hear it?!

Another hot but beautiful day is winding down, and we couldn’t be more grateful! There’s something magical about this time of day—when the world slows down and we take a moment to breathe and unwind. Here’s to savoring every last bit of today’s sunshine and looking forward to what tomorrow brings!

Good news so far! Diesel is starting to feel better, and we think he’s on the mend from his bout of pneumonia! 🙌

A huge thank you for all the prayers and good vibes you sent his way—they truly worked! Also, a heartfelt shoutout to our amazing vet, Mitch Wasko DVM PC, who has been instrumental in helping us treat him. We couldn’t have done this without you!

So far, all the other sheep and goats are healthy and haven’t shown any signs of getting sick, which was a big concern for us. Whew!

We love and appreciate all of you for supporting our rescues through your prayers, good thoughts, donations, and by liking and sharing our posts. It means the world to us! ❤️

There I was, tiptoeing like a ninja, trying to clean up the pasture without waking our majestic goat, Gilbert.

Who knew that cleaning could turn into a covert mission? If Gilbert wakes up and sees me in an awkward, ridiculous position as I sneak around him, he’s going to think I’m trying to steal his hay. 😅

Random pics I received in our hilarious text from Andria and Mr. Mule over the last week or so.

Mr. Mule: Our adorable rescue living his best life! Just weeks ago, he was a mystery, but now he’s the star of the show—spoiled beyond belief! His meals are blended and served with slobber! 😆 We definitely need extra napkins around cause he uses Andria as his personal face wipe. And he also wants Andria and her family around at all times! I wish my personal animals were this cuddly! lol

And can we talk about his new “Mule-licious Shag” haircut? He’s shedding everywhere and still has some long hair so they’re trimming the rest ! He sucks up all the attention he can get. What a good boy to stand there so nicely!

Sometimes he wanders into the garage looking for his favorite humans, and we half-expect him to knock if the door's closed! His eating habits are unpredictable—one day he’s a vacuum cleaner, the next a “snack-and-nap” kind of guy.

Despite a few hiccups (like needing help to get up a time or ten), we’re thrilled he’s had FOUR days of pure bliss! More good than bad is a win in our book!

So far - so good for this little guy!

Thank you for for helping us save this boys life! He’s truly living his best life so far we think.

🐑 Hey everyone, we could really use some good vibes, thoughts, prayers, or whatever you feel like sending our way for our sheep, Diesel.

Today, we noticed he just wasn’t himself. He was drinking and eating, but seemed a bit tired and wobbly. It was a hot day, and they were all hanging out in the shelter, so we were unsure if it was just the heat or something more. But better safe than sorry—we called the vet.

Miraculously, a new vet that was recently recommended was available and arrived within an hour! That’s pretty rare, especially for sheep and goats! We felt so blessed to have him come out so quickly because Diesel's temperature was 105°F (normal is under 103°F), and there was also a little discharge from his nose.

The diagnosis? Pneumonia. 😢 Diesel is definitely not well, and we’re still trying to figure out how he contracted it. Thankfully, no one else seems to be affected, and we hope it stays that way.

He received a shot of antibiotics today, and we have another shot scheduled for him on Sunday and Wednesday. It’s so hard to see him like this and not be able to make him feel better right away.

A huge thank you to Mitch Wasko DVM! Your quick response and expertise have been invaluable. You taught us a few things, and we are so grateful you were available when we needed you.

And a fun little side note—Dr Wasko took one look at our Earl and fell in love! He has 11 mules that are all older and have their own stories, and we loved hearing about them. Here’s hoping he’ll come back to visit Earl again—preferably when no one is sick!

Thank you all for your support! 💕🐑

Hey, friends! We have TWO questions for all of you today!

1️⃣ Have you noticed a little weight difference / change in our buddy, Mr. Mule? We think he’s already looking a little better after just a little over a one week with us! What do you all think?

2️⃣ Now for the BIG question: should we keep his name Mr. Mule, or give him a fresh start with a brand new name? 🤔 On one hand, he’s been Mr. Mule for 10 years from his late owner, but on the other, it’s a new chapter for this handsome guy!

We want to hear YOUR opinions! Drop your thoughts below! Please help us decide.

It’s so fun to hear about Mr Mules personality coming out!! He’s hilarious.

Andria sends our group many texts a day and it’s getting more and more entertaining … let me tell ya!

So, here’s Mr. Mule this morning at 6 AM, and Andria is being held hostage by his demands for attention! 😅 I’ll keep posting pics as I get them.

Let’s just say this guy is not one for subtlety. If he wants to go outside, he’ll make sure everyone knows it! He doesn’t just stand by the door; he practically bulldozes his way through! And when he’s had enough of the great outdoors? He’s back in like he owns the place—because, spoiler alert, at this point I think he does!

Now, let’s talk about his taste in food. Mr. Mule has a refined palate that would put most food critics to shame. He loves his soaked senior mash but he won’t touch his soaked alfalfa unless it’s topped with blended/minced pears. Seriously, can we say “hoity-toity”? 😅

And grooming? Oh boy, this guy runs the show! He backs up to Andria like. “Hey, brush this glorious backside, it’s not gonna groom itself, darling!” And … he absolutely loves his ears rubbed!

On a serious note - he’s definitely getting stronger every single day. When he does lay down now … he’s actually helping to get himself up and it’s definitely getting easier on everyone. He’s sooo sweet and everyone is absolutely falling in love with him. Thank you Andria, Bella and Greg for taking him into your lives and giving him round the clock care and all the attention he can handle and he deserves. ❤️

Another Mr. Mule Alert!

OK, OK, OK—good news everyone! Our beloved Mr. Mule has officially left the hospital today!

The rescue team gathered for a quick meeting, and we all agreed that Mr. Mule deserves some special TLC at our wonderful board member Andria's barn. She has all the amenities he needs, and he deserves the best. Let me tell you, this guy hit the extra jackpot! With round-the-clock camera monitoring, gourmet soaked mash (because who doesn’t want to eat fancy?), unlimited love and attention, a spacious stall with fans, and a lush pasture for turn-out—Mr. Mule is living the dream!!

Today has been a bit bumpy for him. He’s not quite as energetic or aware as yesterday, but that’s totally expected after all he’s been through. His body is working hard to heal! But here’s the scoop: Andria has been spending tons of quality time with him, and guess what? He LOVES to be groomed! Yay! He also can’t get enough of his ear scratches—seriously, he’s always asking for more! His appetite is good, though he does take breaks but will eventually finish. We’re all about those little victories!

We’re hoping and praying for daily improvements, and we want you to know that we couldn’t have done this without YOU! Your support has made Mr. Mule’s rescue and vet care possible, and we’re beyond grateful! 🙌❤️

Stay tuned for more updates on our sweet boy’s journey. Thank you all for being such an amazing part of this!

We can’t add videos and photos together on one post but will post a few of him in comments. 🙂

Exciting Update on Mr. Mule!

Questions about why there isn’t shavings? Please read paragraph right below this. 😀

***** I keep forgetting to add this to every post. The flooring in each stall is thick rubber mats. Not concrete. It might look that way but it’s not. See the square cut out in the center of the floor? That’s a piece of the thick rubber mat that is cut out of the mat (can’t cut cement) but they keep it there because it’s covering the drain when they spray the stalls down. They also usually put a thick bed of shavings even on top of these mats in their stalls but Mr. Mule was trying to eat the shavings. They were nice enough to strip the whole stall and get rid of them so they wouldn’t make him sick. ❤️

We had the pleasure of visiting Mr. Mule today, and wow, what a difference a day makes! When we saw him compared to just a few days ago, we were truly taken aback by how much more alert he is! I could barely get a good photo because he was so eager to come close to the camera!

Just a few days ago, he seemed so shut down and in survival mode, but today, while he’s still a bit weak and slow, he’s responding to our voices and seeking out some much-needed attention! It was feeding time, so we didn’t get to shower him with hugs just yet, but we can’t wait for that moment! The IV is out, and all signs are pointing to him coming home tomorrow! While we’re over the moon with this progress, we’re also being cautiously optimistic. Every little step forward is a victory, and we’re so grateful for the care he’s received from Weems and Stephens Vet Hospital.

Let’s keep the positive vibes, prayers and love going for Mr. Mule as he continues on this journey! Thank you all for your support! 💕

Facebook is only allowing one video at a time these days or I’m having a glitch. I have a few photos / videos of his cute little face but I wanted to show him moving with a little pep in his step compared to the other day and how he’s eager to eat. Right now we’re feeling so happy! What a roller coaster of emotions we’ve all been on and we’re grateful for all of you helping us with this whole situation.

Update on Mr. Mule.

Hey everyone, I wanted to take a moment to share an update on our sweet Mr. Mule. Today was a bit tough; he went down two or three times, and it took a few of the workers and our vet to help him back up each time. It’s hard to watch him struggle like this, and our heart aches for him.

The vet mentioned that this could be due to a mix of things—his body adjusting to digesting food again, finally feeling safe enough to lay down and rest, or simply being worn out and weak. There may also be something else going on that we’re unable to see right now. While he’s not worse, he also hasn’t shown drastic improvement, but it's important to remember that it's only been a few days. Big changes often take time.

We’re taking it day by day, and we’ll have another update tomorrow morning. I truly appreciate all the love and support you’ve shown him already. Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers, or send some positive vibes his way.

If you feel called to help, we would be grateful for any donations towards his vet bill. Every little bit counts, and it means so much to us. https://beckyshope.com/donate

Thank you for being a part of Mr. Mule's journey and for loving him as much as we do already.

**** Many people have asked about shavings in his stall. He was trying to eat them so they have to keep him in a stall without them. The flooring is thick rubber mats.

Hey hooman friends! It’s Toga the Goat here, and guess what? It’s THURSDAY! The sun is shining like my fabulous coat, and the grass is greener than my best buddy’s envy when I snag the freshest patches. 😀

So, while you’re stuck in your two-legged world, just remember: I’m out here living my best goat life, soaking up the sun, and plotting my next great adventure. Maybe a leap over that fence? My humans need some exercise. 🤔😅

Stay fabulous,

We wanted to share an update on Mr. Mule.

To all of our relief, all of his bloodwork came back normal! However, we learned that his teeth were in pretty rough shape or most of them missing, so they floated what they could to make him feel better and be able to eat. He’s also been on IV fluids for the past few days, and the best part? He’s absolutely loving his soaked mash meals! He can’t seem to get enough, and it’s heartwarming to see him so enthusiastic about his food. He won’t even lift his head out of the bucket until it’s all gone.

While he’s still weak, we’re hopeful that in the next day or so we can bring him home to continue his care with soaked mash and soaked alfalfa. The vets have been amazing, but they are cautiously optimistic and they also mentioned to us that it’s going to be a long journey ahead but don’t see any immediate reason why we shouldn’t try because he’s such a fighter. So, with his strong will to fight and the encouraging results from his bloodwork, we’re holding onto hope for a very slow, gradual recovery.

*The reason they don’t have shavings in his stall is because he was trying to eat them. 😢

Whatever lies ahead for him, our priority is to make sure Mr. Mule feels all the love and compassion he deserves. Thank you all for your incredible support! This rescue means so much to us, and it’s because of you that Mr. Mule has a chance at recovery.

I’ll keep you posted on his progress tomorrow! Please keep Mr. Mule in your thoughts, prayers, or send him some good vibes—he needs all the positivity right now!

Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Longest Facebook post ever and it will never happen again. 😀😅

Update:** We completely agree and were initially very angry about the condition of this poor animal. We just found out about this situation two days ago. With the help of the landowner and the elderly original owner (for which we are grateful), we all came together in the end to help Mr. Mule.

We don't know what originally happened or what Mr. Mule's living conditions were like, but we can only speculate. We understand what happens for an animal to get to this condition, we’re not denying that, but we never saw where he lived prior to the short time he was at this farm, so it would not be truthful for us to comment on that. Was it a great place or horrible … we have no idea. I’m just reporting on what we discussed with them or what we saw for ourselves. It’s clear that it takes much longer than the last six or seven weeks that he was on this last property to reach this point.

Being angry at the elderly original owner of this poor soul serves no purpose at this point. Furthermore, we can't punish someone who is no longer with us or surviving wife of mule owner who is incapacitated. We don’t know the entire background of his living situation or how he ended up this way, nor did we ask; we were solely focused on getting the animal released to our care and to the vet. We didn't conduct an interview; we were just discussing how to help, and some details emerged during those discussions.

They were kind enough to relinquish the animal to us, which could have gone very differently. Being angry and unprofessional would not have benefited us or the rescue. We can express our frustration and sadness privately, and believe me, we do! We consciously try to maintain a positive tone in our posts; otherwise, they would be filled with rage and sorrow on a daily basis.

To those who have messaged or commented about how I showed grace to the individuals involved in this situation, I sure did. We have worked with other parties in the past that didn't want to help, hid animals, or even put them down themselves. Yikes! I stand by my decision, and I am grateful that they accepted our help for this animal and have been nothing but cooperative.

With their assistance, we resolved this situation within a little over 24 hours of discovering Mr. Mule's plight. I’m just happy for him, and there is nothing we can do about the backstory at this point. Rescues have no jurisdiction to charge people or seize animals from private property. Therefore, getting them to cooperate with us is a win in my opinion. Rant over. 😊🙃

A Heartfelt Reminder: Kindness Over Judgment

Today, we felt compelled to share a story that has deeply touched our hearts and serves as a beautiful reminder of the power of kindness and understanding. It all began with a phone call about a mule who was in desperate need of help.

A kind woman reached out to us yesterday regarding this mule, who was thin and weak at a neighboring property. Although her initial communication with the landowner started off well, it soon came to an end.

We then reached out to the landowner, who some might have been quick to judge. However, we discovered a truly kind-hearted individual. He and his family were more than willing to help us and, more importantly, help the mule. He explained that he was just trying to assist a friend by giving this sweet mule a place to stay. A long-time friend had asked if the mule could stay on his property alongside his cows, and he thought he was simply lending a helping hand. He was told the mule was over 40 years old, and that it was normal for him at his age to look this way. The landowner does not reside on the property with the cows (which is completely normal) and hadn’t even seen the mule much because he had only been on that land for approximately 6 to 7 weeks.

The landowner then provided us with the contact information for the original owner of the mule. She was also incredibly supportive, understanding, and very kind. She shared the story of how she became her sister-in-law’s guardian. She had to take care of selling her sister-in-law’s house and land and find a soft landing for the mule. The woman’s late husband had brought Mr. Mule home over a decade ago, and he was approximately 30 years old then. So, Mr. Mule may indeed be over 40! I was told that the late husband loved that mule and would call out “Mr. Mule” when he saw him, and he’d come running. From my conversation with her, I truly believe she believed she was doing right by this beloved mule, allowing him to live out his golden years. There was grass and hay available for Mr. Mule. There could be many other underlying issues going on, which only a veterinarian can determine, and we will see.

All three individuals were acting out of love: the woman who saw a need, the man trying to help a friend, and the woman caring for a family member and her mule.

We know the mule should have never been in this position in the first place but for these people to step up and willing to listen and learn and be so helpful and grateful for the help … it’s hard to be / stay mad at anyone. We just need to focus on Mr Mule and move forward. They’ve even offered to donate towards his care at the vet. That truly means a lot. We’ve dealt with the other side of this kind of thing with denial, hatred, threatening behavior and this is refreshing!

This experience reminded us that it's easy to jump to conclusions and judge others based on what we see or hear. Yet, everyone has a story, and sometimes those stories are filled with good intentions that just need a little understanding.

Today, Greg and Andria picked up Mr. Mule and transported him to Weems and Stephens Vet Clinic, and we received a little bit of good news! The vet reported that they’ve never seen a mule in such bad shape, and despite his struggles, Mr. Mule's blood work came back normal! We will have another update from the vet tomorrow. This resilient little soul has a very slight chance, and it’s a testament to the power of collaboration and compassion.

So, even though this issue with the mule could have been addressed MUCH earlier in his life, all parties involved collaborated to happily and whole heartedly get it done together to help this sweet mule NOW. Maybe and hopefully we all learned something from this situation.

We need all the love and prayers for this sweet old guy that he can get.

If you’d like to contribute to his medical care, we’d certainly appreciate any donations. You can donate thru the link below or on our website with many different payment options here: [https://beckyshope.com/donate]

Thank you for reading this long story; we just wanted you to get the whole picture. lol

We love and appreciate all the support you give BHHR through donations, as well as sharing and liking our posts, and loving our rescues!

We couldn’t do it without you. I know we say it all the time, but it’s true. 😀

What a magical twist of fate for our beloved horse Silver!

We were committed to giving Silver a forever sanctuary, but little did we know that the perfect situation would come along in the most unexpected way! A random phone conversation with one of our followers, Kara, led Silver being adopted by Kara and her two geldings, Solo and Boo, along with the lovely cow named Beyoncé. It turns out that Silver was the missing piece in their little family puzzle.

Kara was telling us how her senior mare had passed away, and as she was describing her, we were thinking the similarities between Silver and Kara’s late mare were uncanny, from their sweet and loving personalities to their shared love for people and other horses, and being a paint with a bald face to them both having a slight sway back. We truly think this adoption was destined to be. ❤️

We are overwhelmed with gratitude for Kara, Solo, Boo, and Beyoncé for opening their hearts and home to Silver.
Within one day, her geldings were already following her around. We couldn’t be happier about this whole situation.

Thank you, Kara, for loving and taking such good care of senior horses in need.

Pics are from her being loaded to go to her new home … to the first meetings with her new herd mates at Kara’s. It couldn’t have gone better!

Will update with more photos soon.

Angel! Our beautiful chestnut mare is still on the lookout for her forever home.

Born on March 26, 2016, at our rescue to her mother, Red. Angel is a petite, energetic, and intelligent horse standing at around 14 hands. With her unique Chimera spots on her neck, she's truly one of a kind.

While Angel is halter broke, cooperative with the farrier, and has a solid foundation, she's in need of some finishing touches. After enjoying a few years of freedom with her herd in our vast pastures, she's now ready to find an experienced and patient owner who can dedicate time to her training.

If you're someone who can provide Angel with the attention and care she deserves, she promises to shower you with love and loyalty. Could you be the perfect match for our Angel? Reach out to us today to take the first step in giving this special mare her forever family! You can also

We are delighted to announce some heartwarming news! Our sweet donkey Jenny has found her perfect match and was officially adopted on July 4th! 🎉 🧨

Jenny's journey began with us many years ago when she was rescued with the intention of becoming a guard donkey for some goats. However, fate had a different plan because she did not like goats at all and that’s where we come in. Over the years, Jenny's love for horses became evident, and she formed strong bonds with our herd we affectionately call the Wild Bunch. We tried many times to see if she’d gravitate to our donkey herd and she just wasn’t having it. We just want her to be happy so wherever she felt comfy is where she stayed.

Although we usually prefer to adopt animals out in pairs, Jenny's special connection with horses led to a unique situation. A kind person contacted us, mentioning that her horse loves donkeys and was looking for a single donkey companion. It seemed like fate had brought them together!

We are thrilled to introduce Jenny to her handsome new partner, Playdough! 😍 Their new owners have set up a wonderful farm sanctuary for them, complete with a spacious covered arena and cozy stalls for their comfort. The love and care they have already shown Jenny is heartwarming.

This adoption marks a new beginning for Jenny and a meaningful birthday gift for her new owner. The bond and affection between Jenny, Playdough, and their humans are already forming, and we are overjoyed for this perfect match made in donkey-heaven!

We appreciate your ongoing support and love for our furry friends. Here's to more stories of happy adoptions and companionship!

Happy Birthday, Cornelia! Thank you and Ben for adopting Jenny and giving her the perfect home. ❤️

Let's talk about Spirit and Blake - the cutest couple on the whole earth … until I talk about the next cutest couple. 😅

Are you looking for wonderful bonded companion horses to roam around your pastures? Spirit and Blake could be the perfect pair for you!

Spirit, a resilient horse who survived a serious injury in the past, has been enjoying her life to the fullest with us. Thanks to a dog rescue's timely intervention, Spirit received the care she needed and healed up just fine. The dog rescue was on a property rescuing 20 plus dogs when they saw Spirit lying down in the pasture bleeding - having been punctured by a tpost thru her chest and out of her shoulder. She’s completely fine now. She has been lightly ridden many years ago now but she’s had at least four years off having a blast with her herd just hanging out and being horses. She’s completely pasture sound and she's ready for a reevaluation to ensure she's in tip top
shape and to see what her limitations are with any future riding.

Blake, a sweet and attention-loving guy, may not be rideable due to past health issues and residual effects of EPM and his hind end is a bit weak, but he is pasture sound and full of love to give.

Imagine sipping your morning coffee on the porch, watching these two beauties enjoying their life together. It's a heartwarming sight that could be right in your own backyard!

If you’re interested in helping / adopting either of these beauties please reach out or go to https://beckyshope.com/adopt and fill out our application on the bottom of page. We’re looking forward to hearing from you!!
