Hey all, I’m going to be at Kittery Trading Post on Monday September 2nd for the start of Septemberfest. I’ll be there representing the Maine Association of Taxidermists (MAT). I’ll be mounting a couple of deer. Come on by say hi and check out how deer mounts are done.

Well the 2024 Northern New England Taxidermy competition is in the books. I entered 3 pieces this year and did fairly well. Ended up with a blue ribbon and best of category in the pro division for my bear. Second place ribbon for my first attempt at entering a fish, also in the pro division. And a red ribbon for my deer in the pro division.

Before and after pics of a Steelhead restoration. Replaced all the fins and gave it a new paint job. Couldn’t convince the customer to put a new head on it, so rebuilt the old head.

I just got back from attending a bear workshop instructed by one of the premier bear taxidermists, Steve Rolan. Great class and a great group of taxidermists in the class. This bear is still wet and needs finish work, but super pleased how it turned out.

After many years of doing taxidermy, I finally entered a taxidermy competition. Getting here was a feat in itself- waiting on capes to come back from the tannery, only to find out the one I was going to use got damaged at the tannery. Eyes that I ordered never arrived, the taxidermy supply company sent them to the wrong taxidermist. So I found myself finally mounting up a deer a week and a half before the competition. This would normally be started months in advance so you can take your time and get all the small details right. So after rushing to get the deer mounted and base built, I’m quite pleased with a second place ribbon in my first attempt at a competition piece.
