I thought I would finally properly introduce myself!

My name is Maria Martin! The next thing I first was going to write was “I am an Equine Dental Provider”, but that’s not who I am first. First, I am an animal lover. All animals, big and small. I adore them. If you have me out you’re going to hear me say some sort of compliment to every animal I see because Iv noticed that’s what I do, and I always mean it!

I also am an equestrian! I have grown up in the horse world, getting my first education in Pony Club! I later was a working student at one of the leading dressage farms in the area, and have worked at multiple farms in my younger years as well. I have had countless lessons during my life, but honestly where I have learned the most is right in my own barn, with my horses. I can’t even say the time I have spent in the saddle, but in the little moments like cleaning stalls, feeding, filling water, and just existing together.

I thank my parents endlessly for having me grow up around animals, because I wouldn’t be me without them. They are my peace. They see me, and I like to think I see them too. I will always have your animals best interest at heart, and will do by them like I would my own!

Good body condition doesn’t always mean there aren’t issues going on in the mouth!

This little guy had some massive ramps + sharp enamel points going on, and as you can see it didn’t stop him from continuing to eat even though it was causing discomfort.

Horses are such stoic animals, it takes a lot for them to show signs of pain/weakness. If you wait for a problem to be seen, it’s usually already very bad.

Every horse/pony/donkey should have their teeth done minimum once a year 💕🐴🦷

Some potential signs your partner is trying to communicate to you they need a dental:

🌻 Head Sensitivity - around mouth, ears, poll, etc.
🦷 Trouble/Resistance Turning
🌻 Behavioral Issues - bucking, rearing, head tossing, etc.
🦷 Dropping Grain
🌻 Trouble Eating Hay (quidding - hay balls)
🦷 Resistance To Collection
. and the list goes on.

Don’t wait until for a noticeable issue before you’re getting your animals teeth done.

Every horse/pony/donkey/mule should be getting their teeth floated at minimum, once a year.

It was bring your horse skull to work day 😍

It’s always a great day when I get to educate about horse teeth! It was a privilege getting to talk with a couple groups of young horse campers today 🐴⛺️

I don’t just float the teeth, I love to talk about them! ….maybe a little too much depending who you ask 🙈

What a gift getting to start the day at my old stomping grounds, the gorgeous Sunset Hill Farm, Training and Boarding Facility 😍

I have so many memories at this farm from my childhood years: weekly pony club lessons, rallies, and shows.

To then my young adult life having the privilege to keep two of my personal horses here, and even having to lay rest one of my heart horses in front of this barn.

To now getting to work on two beautiful horses teeth, who are so loved by their owner & trainer🥹💕

Give me allll the pony teeth 💕🐴🦷

🌻 Incisor balancing is extremely important to make sure the horses jaw can move freely posterior and anterior (back -> front) & also laterally (side -> side).

🌻 Reducing incisors to an appropriate length is a must to keep their premolar & molars in occlusion (contact with each other), so your trusty stead can grind all the nutrients out of their food.

🌻 Canines (small ones on this little lady, while males will have larger) being reduced/buffed makes sure they aren’t causing trauma to their tongue, and don’t interfere with the bit.

🌻 Dental calculus (plaque) build up is very common on the lower canines, as well as the incisors. We have to remove this build up as it causes localised gingivitis and can lead to gum recession.

I found the three little piggies right out of the storybook 🐷🐽

This stop at Grateful Acres De made my entire life. The animals here are SO loved by the owner + volunteers who are the caretakers for them. The love radiated this morning 💕
