Check out this creepy crawling ear mite. The kitty that this swab was taken from from has been treated with the topical heartworm/flea/tick medication called Revolution Plus so those pesky mites are no longer a problem :)
Fantastic news in the veterinary world for our dogs and cats with chronic pain!!
Over the past year cats have had the luxury of A new arthritis injectable called Solensia.
Now dogs get that luxury! The once per month injection is called Librela, and like Solensia, it is a “monoclonal antibody”. This means it’s a DRUG FREE route to have excellent pain control and reduce long term side effects of NSAIDs and steroid medications!
This is a perfect addition to our arthritis tool box (Advanced Joint Flex, Adequan, Laser, Platelet Rich Plasma, and Stem Cell)!!
Positive effects can be seen from the pain relief within the first week! This once a month injectable has been used in Europe for over two years successfully so far.
We should have it in stock within the next two weeks!
Food for thought and Alerts heading into this week:
-We had our second heartworm positive pet of 2023- just a reminder this is completely preventable with the current medications (Proheart or Simparica Trio). Video: A baby heartworm seen under the microscope in a drop of blood below.
-We also had a Lyme disease positive dog. This is a life long disease that can only be managed. Once again completely preventable with Simparica.
-We’ve see an uptick in flea cases both indoor and outdoor pets. Fleas can carry tapeworms and bartonella. This too completely preventable with Simparica.
-The last two months there has been a very infectious and contagious respiratory pathogen going around (especially Indy/NE Indiana/NW Ohio) - kennels, daycares, and grooming salons (aka where dogs gather). It is not kennel cough as there have been many PCR tests performed by veterinarians all over and that comes back negative. It actually comes back negative for all the 10 typical pathogens. So most pets it responds well to typical medication and resolves quickly but some pets it can progress to pneumonia.
Its ITCHY SEASON!
We have many options to help keep your pet comfortable.
From all the Doctors and staff at MVVC- we wish you a blessed Easter weekend.

Have you ever wondered what ear mites look like? Wonder no more! Our videoscope shows you, the client, exactly what our doctor sees when looking in your pets' ears. If you look closely in this video, you can see the tiny white bugs crawling inside this cat's ear. Yuck!! No worries though; these are easily treated so this kitty can now rest comfortably :)
