Two equine bills were introduced on February 27 to mark National Horse Protection Day on March 1. The Save America’s Forgotten Equines (SAFE) Act (H.R. 1661/S. 775) seeks to permanently end the slaughter of American horses for human consumption, with over 100 original cosponsors. Led by Reps. Vern Buchanan and Jan Schakowsky, as well as Sens. Lindsey Graham and Ben Ray Lujan, the SAFE Act aims to prevent the inhumane slaughter of horses. Another bill introduced is The Prevent All Soring Tactics (PAST) Act (H.R. 1684), backed by over 170 original cosponsors, which aims to protect Tennessee walking horses from soring abuses. Make sure your members of Congress are hearing from you about the need to support and pass these bills.
