🦷 Do you know what to expect during a veterinary dental cleaning? Keep reading to learn all about it!

During their regular exam, we always try to take a look at (and get a whiff!) of what is going on inside their mouth. Based on age, breed, mouth odor, and what we observe, we may recommend a thorough oral exam and cleaning.
Pre-anesthetic bloodwork is required prior to a cleaning, ensuring your pet is healthy for the procedure.
On the big day, we’ll begin with a quick exam before anesthesia. Once your pet is sedated, our medical team will take detailed dental x-rays to assess the gums and jaw structure.
Next, we'll remove tartar and plaque, clean beneath the gums, and examine each tooth for signs of infection or disease. We’ll finish by scaling and polishing the teeth and may apply fluoride or sealants as needed.
If extractions are necessary, we may prescribe antibiotics or pain medications for a smooth recovery. Afterward, it’s a great time to start brushing your pet’s teeth at home. We’re here to help with demonstrations, product recommendations, and aftercare advice!

🦷🐾 Happy Pet Dental Health Month! Did you know that dental care is just as important for pets as it is for us?
At every visit, we check your pet from the tips of their ears to the tips of their tails—this includes taking a peek inside their mouth for signs of dental issues. If we spot anything concerning, we’ll discuss it during their appointment.
Keep an eye out for the signs of dental disease in pets (check out the image). If you notice any of these, give us a call! Let’s keep those tails wagging and those teeth shining. ✨

Meet Surely! Our February Pet of the month!

Surely joined my family during covid thanks to a dear friend who was fostering her.
It has been nothing but pure joy and love since she became a member of the family. In fact, she has since replaced her sisters' that have left the nest.
Surely is a big personality in a tiny body. She has a vast wardrobe, thanks to her mom, not her, choosing- Ha! She is a good sport though.
Surely likes to go for (brief) walks, and at the top of her list, is chilling out and lounging, including a daily nap or two, with her mom. Surely also knows how to swim and is a good swimmer for her size.

Peanut butter is a tasty treat your dog will love, but remember—it should only be given in moderation! While peanut butter can be a fun snack, it’s important to check the ingredients first.
✅ The best peanut butter for your dog is the kind with just peanuts—simple and healthy!
❌ Avoid peanut butter with added oils, sugar, salt, and, most importantly, xylitol (an artificial sweetener) as it’s highly toxic to pets.

While we do not have an exact date yet, we are actively working with a new provider to offer you an even better resource for managing your pet’s health.

We’re excited to introduce a free, user-friendly app that makes it easy to stay on top of your pet’s wellness right from your smartphone. With this new tool, you’ll be able to connect with Hudson Road Animal Hospital, request appointments, receive reminders, and access all the information you need to keep your pet healthy with just a few taps.
