PARADISE GARDEN ANIMAL HAVEN HAS BECOME A SANCTUARY

2024 has been a year of big changes at Paradise Garden Animal Haven. After 19 years, and over 22,000 spays and neuters, our spay/neuter program has come to an end. We’re proud of our accomplishments, including bringing in over $250,000.00 in spay/neuter grants to help area residents responsibly care for their pets, and the feral cats that they support. Please contact us for a list of other local organizations that offer spay/neuter programs. We also no longer offer intake and adoption services. Over the years, we took in and found homes for 1000's of dogs and cats. We have now become a sanctuary for the many older cats that were never adopted and call Paradise Garden Animal Haven their home. This is a natural result of being a no-kill shelter. From our inception in 2002, we have been a leader for the no-kill movement. To this end, we have tirelessly promoted affordable spay/neuter, and we have helped countless people with vaccinations, wellness programs and support through our community foodbank. The cats that were passed over for adoption, through no fault of their own, are the inevitable outcome of our no-kill philosophy. We’re happy to be able to provide them with the home, love and medical care that they deserve. If you have been a supporter of Paradise Garden in the past, please consider continuing your support to insure that these beloved cats will be able to live out their lives in the manner to which they have been accustomed. We’ll be here for several years, so please don’t hesitate to contact us if you need help. We’re happy to share our network of resources, and the wealth of knowledge that we have accumulated over the last 20+ years.

Obituary for Christine Rosner DOB April 1. 1929

Christine, age 95, was born April 1, 1929, in Nuremburg. Germany, the daughter of George and Barbara Rosner. Christine grew up during the N**i era and was greatly affected by it. After WW II she went to Munich where she graduated from translator school and worked various positions for the Allies, including the Displaced Person Emigration Program at the American Consulate where she became painfully aware of N**i atrocities during the war. From 1951 to 1957 she was a secretary at the Neubiberg Airbase before being transferred to Paris to work for NATO.
Christine left Paris around 1959 and emigrated to the United States. She lived in New York City while attending Columbia University part-time. She worked as a Medical Secretary at the Rockefeller Institute of Medical Research where her passion for protection and humane care for animals was born. She graduated with a BA degree in 1967 from Columbia and transferred to the University of Connecticut receiving a MA in 1970 and a PhD in 1974.
Christine moved to Elmira in 1970 where she became an Instructor of German at Elmira College before being promoted to Assistant Professor of German language and Literature in 1974. She retired in 1994.
Christine was a passionate animal welfare advocate. She studied and admired the works of Albert Schweitzer and Mahatma Gandhi and his teaching of the reverence of all life.
Her love of cats led her to Trap/Neuter/Return bringing many cats to local Vets to be spayed/neutered and then released them to various sites around Elmira where she fed and protected them.
Christine had an amazing network of friends, including former students, all over the world. She corresponded with several people whom she had never met but shared her love of animals.
Christine passed away peacefully at home. She was predeceased by her thirteen plus cats who were her beloved family.
